I've made these mistakes a LOT as a newbie so I think sharing this will be helpful!

Pinging people is easy; you just type @ and their username after (e.g. @distorted) It's also called tagging people. You can also click on the small red reply arrow under their post and click on the blue "Reply Now".

Eggcoin (EC) is the site currency. The best way to get EC would be just regularly feeding your pets and selling stuff from your shop. There are Double Feed Days (get twice the money from feeding!) which happens once every month. While Cave Cash (CC) is a premium currency and can only be obtained by buying it with real money and special events.
