Why can't I send items to the Donation Center?

I donated several items, but the number of quests doesn't go up.
No way! My item!

@boxel You gotta click on each individual item and go to the item's donate option... I lost my initial 10 items before I figured it out

I learned this one the hard way, too. Hopefully the staff (@ian) can rework that particular quest.
