I'm currently reading book 2 of the Eragon series. I never had the time to read it as a child and now I have the time to and it's a nice read. A little dated but that's also because of the time period the book is set in but overall, it is a solid read so far.

Re-reading the Andromedia Strain by Michael Crichton! If you like accurate science fiction, give it a read. Also, he actually wrote the Jurassic Park book which eventually led to the movies.
