Bari Sax

WARNING. Anything below may not make any sense if you are not in band/jazz band/play an instrument.

So. In jazz band our teacher said we needed 'balanced' instrumentation, and since we had 7 altos and 1 bari for our sax section... it was not balanced. She said 3 of us HAD to play tenor and 1 bari, but since you have to audition for jazz band, everyone is really good at what they do. like REALLY good. So nobody wanted to do it, but we drew straws and lucky me, I got the baritone sax straw.

I'm terrible. Apparently I have good tone quality, but I can't get out low a. I doubt there are any baritone sax players out there, but if there are, HELP! D8

@whispers wow XD @candy_girl_1298 can tell you how many violas there are. she's in my school in orchestra. there is this other guy in my grade that was the other bari, but everyone says my tone quality is better than his XD

I've learned through playing the various saxaphones (although I only own an alto), and one of my good friends playing bari, that you've got to loosen up your mouth (does that make sense?) and use plenty of air. Mainly it's loosening up your mouth without losing your hold on the mouthpiece entirely.

@xxcrayolademonxx yeah, like loosening your embouchure? I've tried DX just need to practice more. I can almost get it out. but it's the lowest note, so I don't really need to play it 😋 thanks.

@redfire77 Embouchures are thing you need to check. 😋
There are 3, yes 3, Altos in Intermediate. XD

One is extremely loud, that that girl CAN LECTURE ANYTHING. LIKE, SHE'S LIKE, A NANCY OR SOMETHING. XD BUT SHE'S VERY ANNOYING. NOR IS SHE ASIAN, BUT SHE'S ON VACATION IN HONG KONG. -.-'

The other one is a kewl dude, but he doesn't count. Since Annoying Lecture girl is on Vaca., I have to count the rests and the big rests for BOTH OF US.

And apparently, the teacher thinks I'M the one playing the loudest, 'like, yeah right, it's Lecture Gurls fault next to me' (It IS her, we all agree XD) But, everyday, warmup, it's me vs. saxophone. As in, my saxophone is in the repair shop, so I use another one, and it's makes this earsplitting sound every time I start my warmup. XP


PRACTICE. Maybe work your way down? That's usually what I do. Except that my pinkie and fingers are too short to reach 'CERTAIN' keys. XD

@Trish Lol, *struggles to reach certain keys on my keyboard* I DON'T THINK SO XP WOW, keyboard must be so easy compared to this...
But recently my teacher has been insisting I turn Touch on *HORROR*

... I know nothing about Sax or whatever. Sounds hard D: Keyboard: you press the key, it makes the noise X)

@sotheavey I was a once a Violinist (Boastingness, I WAS THE BEST IN THE CLASS 8D) for half a year (total played XD).

Then I was a Clarinetist for 5 months. (ALMOST THE BEST. NOT QUITE. v.v)

And now I'mma Alto Saxist.

I'm master at swiching. XD First french horn, then bells/xylophone (cause my teacher said I just wan't that good at french, I never used the keys XD) and then we ran out of drummers so about every other song I was a drummer. We had a lot of down time(our teacher had a mental breakdown... 3 months of subs!!) so one friend taught me to play flute, and another clarinet. Then I played my bro's tuba for fun, they are just too cool. And lastly I experimented with my bff barisax one night and got a song down before she did. XD

@feathershaft we have an electric guitar in jazz band 😃 not normal band, though.

@trish and you would know cuz....? you asked that guy, right?
@smilies I play keyboard 😃 I almost got picked for being keyboard in jazz band, but she(conductor) asked me what i prefered, and I was like, ALTO SAX. and she's like BARI SAX.
