Normally when speaking in general we only use the male term, "os gatos" (the cats), but if is a female we use "a gata" (the female cat), but yes cups will always be male (os copos/o copo) XD
And a/an is by genders too, it is "um"(male) "uma"(female).

I find the rules to english easier than for brazilian portuguese, it have a lot of annoying rules, there are a lot of accented letters as â, ã, á, and à, also in portuguese don't have IT, the objects and animals are either he or she XD

His dad works with international relations, so kinda encouraged him to learn the same languages he did, but my friend is a little late, his dad already started to learn 2 other languages (so his dad knows english, portuguese, spanish and italian and is learning german and french.

Ikr, one of my BF always says that the more languages you speak, more you get to know others and yourself, he says that if he thinks in another language, he thinks differently.
He speaks 4 languages, spanish and italian are from his parents.

I think so too, and specially because I read a lot of japanese novels, mangas and love japanese shows, sometimes they don't translate it so it will be really good if I learn it😊
