You'll Use Your Email & Password To Sign In Soon

April 14, 2026 at 6:00 PM

Sign In Changes Coming Soon

For security, in a few weeks, you will begin signing in with your email address (instead of username) to access your Egg Cave accounts. Your passwords will remain the same.

Why now? Well, the web mostly abandoned signing in with public-facing usernames a long time ago for security. It's a security risk that an attacker already knows your public-facing username. Egg Cave's log in form has seen an uptick in attacks lately and switching to signing with your email address is a best standard practice in 2026.

Take a moment to secure all of your main and side accounts, along with their email addresses. You simply need to know which email is associated with which account very soon.

Clarification

The only change here is this: if I am used to signing in with Ian and my password on the log in form, the only change is that I'll begin using [email protected] and password to sign in on the login form. The email you use is the one associated with that individual account.

There will be no "magic sign in" links where you're required to check your email to sign in. There will be no extra verification steps. The only thing that changes is what you enter on the log in form.

You simply need to know the emails associated with your main and side accounts instead of the usernames themselves now. This protects all of your accounts because your email is private on Egg Cave.

Pixel Font Updated

The pixel font located on your creature images has been updated to a newer and crisper-looking pixel font face. We hope that you like it! Please allow a few days for all creature images to be updated.

A bit of a change but that is understandable! Time to double check what emails are associated with which account!

Can we seriously please get a way to link all our accounts to one email? Please? It's a bit ridiculous to have a separate email for each account. One of the emails I used isn't even mine. It's a family member's. ; _ ; aha... I don't have 4 emails and I don't want to make another.

Also the new font is... in all honesty? Ugly. I don't like it.

^ Also in favor of linking all accounts to one email - I've lost access to emails in some accounts as well

Looking at my side accounts, I’ve rediscovered email addresses I didn’t remember I had… 😱

I do think this topic needs better discussion...

Some of my sides will be lost because I can't access the original email ☹️

As I understand it, we don't NEED to have access to those old emails to log in to our EggCave accounts. Plus, if we lose access to our EC accounts (or the email account associated with the account), we have the security questions to help verify our identity.

@valorieviolet I wasn't sure that the security questions would be part of this new login scheme, hope you are correct I do think it is wise to not put all eggs in one basket, but have "failsafes" in place.
