For security, in a few weeks, you will begin signing in with your email address (instead of username) to access your Egg Cave accounts. Your passwords will remain the same.
Why now? Well, the web mostly abandoned signing in with public-facing usernames a long time ago for security. It's a security risk that an attacker already knows your public-facing username. Egg Cave's log in form has seen an uptick in attacks lately and switching to signing with your email address is a best standard practice in 2026.
Take a moment to secure all of your main and side accounts, along with their email addresses. You simply need to know which email is associated with which account very soon.
The only change here is this: if I am used to signing in with Ian and my password on the log in form, the only change is that I'll begin using [email protected] and password to sign in on the login form. The email you use is the one associated with that individual account.
There will be no "magic sign in" links where you're required to check your email to sign in. There will be no extra verification steps. The only thing that changes is what you enter on the log in form.
You simply need to know the emails associated with your main and side accounts instead of the usernames themselves now. This protects all of your accounts because your email is private on Egg Cave.
The pixel font located on your creature images has been updated to a newer and crisper-looking pixel font face. We hope that you like it! Please allow a few days for all creature images to be updated.

I’m very pro-this change. Web security is extremely important and I’m really glad to see this. With there being an uptick in attempted attacks on here, I’m hoping to see use of discord or some other method being included in main acc verification soon. Glad to see this.

I think the login update is good. I am hesitant on the pixel font for creature images. At the moment i miss the older one, but the new font may grow on me. Or not, idk yet.

I Guess Q: given we have sides, and each had to have a email attached to it- I got some emails I never use on those. I can go through my accounts and check, but maybe sometime in the future, would we be able to sign in to all with the "main"? (I mean could be security issue, idk)

I usually play on a zoomed out screen (80-90%), so for me, the pixel font is a bit harder to read, but I'm sure my eyes will adjust over time!

Wow, I created my account 14 years ago… I didn’t even knew I used to have this e-mail. So if my main has this e-mail, I can’t even imagine what e-mails do my sides have lol

That will be a problem. My main e-mail is being used by a side account… And I don’t have 4 active emails to attach to each side. And can’t switch my main account to my main e-mail

bruh this account is under my moms old email because when i signed up i was a literal child. i agree that this is a good change but my email is being used by a side account, and my other side account is under my childhood email that I haven't had access to in at least 5 years

if we're already using our phone # for verification for monthly quests, can that work to link all our accounts and log in, instead of email? I am also having a harder time with the font, I find it hard to read ☹️ i don't like being a negative nancy but I think we need more info

I personally find the new font even harder to read than the old one, and I'm on a huge tablet... :/ Maybe if it was a bit bolder.

Smart security move but does suck a little having to remember which email is which account. At least my accounts all already use different emails that I can still access, unlike some people. I'm unsure about the new font but I suppose I will get used to it either way.

@Ian Will there be options to include secondary e-mails or phone numbers/text options in case like for example youtube/gmail locks a person out of a primary e-mail considering their inconsistency/glitchyness to implementing their "security protocols". ?

Yeah no, the font is *worse*. The names are barely readable on some. The letters are much closer together and kinda bleed into one another (note the 'i's nearly getting lost in these examples) Examples: https://postimg.cc/d76CWzG7 --

-- I don't mind the font itself, but those letters need to be spaced out more. My side accts use throw-away emails I rarely log into, but I guess it's not a huge deal to change my already-saved log-in info on my browser lol.

*reading above comments* There are so many free email providers online, I totally get that it's frustrating to make these changes but hopefully it shouldn't be too complicated to switch a side to a new email and then attach your main email to your main?

Wait.... Is this change not live yet? I assumed the 'in a few weeks' was like a deadline or whatever, but it seems we *can't* log in with our emails yet? So... how are we supposed to know when to start logging in differently??

@veritaspunk that's been a concern of mine, Yahoo has gotten far worse than Gmail! Only 60 sec to verify on recovery email EVERY time logging in. (Glad I switched my recovery emails to Gmail a couple yrs ago.) / Thanks @stormwarden for confirming the switch was easy!

lol... On all my updated browsers & OS I can't read the new font (it's distorted, broken, blurry on different ones,) but it's actually clear and legible on the one tablet I've been avoiding upgrading >.<

i've not used yahoo in a hot minute (lost access to all my old yahoos rip) so i use gmail but i would also recommend proton mail for privacy and security if people need a new email!

i think we just need more info. are you going to be sending verification emails? because then i will go through making new throwaway emails. but if eggcave isn't going to be doing that, then there's no need to do all that. just frustrating to be given such little info

@sorrow this is also a concern I think because i haven't checked my side and am fearful ;; this happened to me on a separate game and my acc got deleted :,,c hopefully there is a remedy !

To clarify: the only change that's going to be happening soon is, on the login form, you will enter the email address associated with the account instead of the username. You only need to know what the email address is for the account with the password to sign in.

@sorrow if the account is verified and active to play, no. You'd just enter the email address in the "username" field to log in instead of the username itself.

All you'll have to know to log in is the email address associated with the account. Nothing else changes.
No magic email log in links! No "welcome back, check your email to sign in" stuff. It's simply what you're entering into the username field goes from "Ian" to "eggcave@gmail.com."

@jarsha thank you! Log in with email change, we intend to convert the Monthly Challenge to be verified by email each month for main accounts and do away with asking for phone numbers.
@heatherm19 what browser were you using for that screenshot? The text isn't supposed to look like that.

@Ian Thank you so much for giving an early heads up about the coming change! (As well as time to get things in order, it means a lot to us neurodivergent ppl to have time to mentally prepare.) / And the clarification that we'll only need to know the email is a huge relief.
