Adoption center + Punbundu Updates

October 8, 2009 at 9:52 PM 44 Comments

ADOPTION CENTER - You may now abandon three creatures per day at the Adoption Center! The cost is now 4,000 EC. Abandonment is not recommended though!

PUNBUNDU UPDATES - Punbundu artwork (not evolution stages!) have been updated. Most of you will not be able to tell, but we smoothed out the shading for Punbundus and made the lines less sharp/pixelated. Hurrah! We love Alyssa (organismal), one of our artists!

If you own a Punbundu, your creature will reflect the updated art tomorrow when creature stats are updated.

HALLOWEEN BASH - Our Halloween bash preparations are still underway. You won't want to miss it, because a species of creature will be given to those who participate in the bash! And this creature will be available only once a year!

New species + Evolution brackets (again!)

October 5, 2009 at 12:00 AM 74 Comments

Four cool-looking species have been discovered by the Science and Research Center in Ark City!

Additionally, we've updated the evolution brackets for every single creature again. Certain species will be more of a challenge again. :)

UPDATE: These four new creatures will be available year-round, not just October! ;)

Next up: food center! Thanks for being a part of Egg Cave.

Welcome to October - new species brackets

October 2, 2009 at 8:58 PM 71 Comments

Welcome to October! Fall is here (well, only in the northern hemisphere)! Summer is definitely on its way to all of our southern hemisphere friends. :)

drakomo_2.pngsorien_2.pngaerlo_2.png

We have adjusted the evolution brackets for every single species. The ones above are to be particularly noted for their adjustment. Now, we haven't made it so easy to where Egg Cave is no fun to play! Just a slight adjustment so it doesn't take so long to hatch your creatures.

Also, I should have clarified in my last news post; our bash will be a Halloween bash. October bash. Halloween bash. Same thing. ;) Stay tuned for new species tomorrow (hopefully! that is, if I get my Adobe CS3 fixed!).

Remember this: you all rock! Thanks for being a part of Egg Cave.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, my graphics software is not fixed yet. Hang tight for the species update!

The adoption center is HERE!

September 26, 2009 at 10:40 AM 116 Comments

After a much anticipated update -- IT'S FINALLY HERE! Ark City now has an adoption center. Say hello to Linda the Alkub! She's a kind-hearted soul that likes to find abandoned creatures a home; she's running the Adoption Center.

Hello there! You are welcome at the Adoption Center.

Several of you have noticed that something like 100 EC has appeared in the top user bar. You guessed correctly; that is Egg Cave's new currency called Egg Coins. As of right now, you can obtain EC by feeding your eggs and others eggs. If you want to abandon your creature, it'll cost you a hefty 3,000 EC.

A couple of users have expressed their concern with the introduction of a currency. Some worry that some day the Egg Cave economy will become too user-driven, giving certain users too large of an advantage over others (more eggs, more power, more items, etc). Rest assured that we're going to keep a tight reign on the Egg Cave economy to ensure that the game is fair for everybody, including our newer players.

The FAQ page will be updated with information on the latest features soon. Stay tuned for a massive new species release next week. We also have fun things planned for an October bash, including a new species that will only be obtainable during the bash! You won't want to miss it.

Creature Profiles v2.0

September 19, 2009 at 9:36 PM 178 Comments

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Do you think it's currently too hard to hatch eggs and/or level up your creatures? Please post your response to this blog post; we're considering re-adjusting evolution points for each species.

Egg Cave's newest update involves CREATURE PROFILES!

Your creature's profiles have been completely redone with exciting new features! First off, they've been more streamlined and look a lot more like your regular user profiles (with a couple of exceptions, nonetheless). They don't look so boring and bland now! Actually, the old creature profiles (that just went offline) were from 6 months ago, back when Egg Cave was in development and barely operational! At that point in time, I can't exactly say I was concerned with the design. :P Time for an update, 'eh?

Secondly, you can now add profile text for each and every one of your creatures. A whole 500 characters! If you're a writer or just like dreaming, add a little "backstory" to your creatures! Where did they come from? What adventures have they had? It'll make things a lot more interesting and exciting for your friends to read! To update your creature's profile text, go to their profile and click the script_edit.png button. A text box will appear, where you can edit your creature's profile.

Third, eggs/creatures can now be fed REAL food! A little message/blurb will also be displayed (directly from the egg) after each feed (i.e. "Mmm! Yummy!"). More food concoctions will be released later! :)

Fourth, due to popular demand, Egg Cave now tracks the last 5 feeders for each of your creatures (excluding guests/non-registered users). This will help a lot of people know who actually *returns* feeds. ;)

UP NEXT: Adoption agency!

Thanks for being a part of Egg Cave.

Security Updates

September 18, 2009 at 9:47 PM 22 Comments

Hi everybody,

Yet another unexpected event has occurred. :( In addition to my sickness (which is putting updates behind), Egg Cave's server was compromised recently. The bug that was abused was actually on another web site that is hosted on Egg Cave's server. Rest assured that this security hole has been fixed and cannot be abused again.

As a security precaution, we recommend that all users change their Egg Cave passwords. This will secure your account from any outsiders, in the case that your username and password combination was compromised.

[UPDATE] There seems to be some confusion about this event. Egg Cave itself wasn't hacked. Another web site on Egg Cave's server was hacked. This has absolutely nothing to do with this site; this is simply a safety precaution.

Best,
Ian

Updates from the Head

September 17, 2009 at 5:41 PM 19 Comments

Hi everybody,

This is Ian, the (only) developer of Egg Cave. Just two days ago, I came down with a really bad case of the cold flu and have been out of it. As you know, I try to do one (or two) major updates per week and today there should be a major update. I am 90% done with the major update and I planned on doing the last 10% today, but I got worse than expected. Thus, I will not be able to finish the update today.

I hope you guys understand... the update will be coming tomorrow or the day after. Thanks so much... you guys are seriously the best little (more like BIG! -- haha!) beginning community I have ever had on one of my web sites. :) Here's a little sneek peek (the adoption center is the next feature after this one, I PROMISE!):

Mo mo... mo!

September 10, 2009 at 7:12 PM 47 Comments

NEWEST SPECIES - You know that pretty-looking bird in the park at Ark City? Well, it was the only one of its kind -- until now (it was kept hushush until the Science and Research Center decided it was not the last one of its kind)! A small colony of Mo birds were spotted in the northeastern jungle of Ark. The Science and Research Center in Ark City found an egg, hatched it, studied the species, and has gathered some information which is now available at The Archives.

Rumor has it that these eggs are EXTREMELY rare, but can be found in the Egg Cave. Hmm...

Ark City has been released!

September 3, 2009 at 12:41 AM 34 Comments

UPDATE: Sorry! The Town Hall was broken for Firefox. This has been fixed!

Ark City has finally been RELEASED! Go to the Explore page to visit Ark City! A mean-looking Aerlo named Aeroria works in the Town Hall, which is currently the only open building in Ark City. She can help you rename your creatures! ;)

townhall.png
What are YOU looking at?

The City of Ark was built by a few wealthy individuals and they haven't staffed all of the buildings yet. Thus, the Town Hall is the only building open as of now. Rest assured that these wealthy individuals are working around the clock to find people to work in the other buildings of Ark City.

FACEBOOK - Egg Cave is on FACEBOOK! Become a fan today! :)

Search feature, wall updates

August 26, 2009 at 3:28 PM 52 Comments

NEW EGG CAVE SEARCH - You can now search through every user and egg in Ark! The search box is located on the right-hand navigation. This will allow you to find your friends easier... or make new ones. :)

Gender and country data are displayed in the search results. If you do not want this data displayed anywhere, you can select "Not Telling" for both your gender and country on the Account Settings page.

WALL UPDATES - On your "extended wall" (i.e. when you click "View All Comments" on your wall), there are now only 25 comments displayed per page. No more endless page loading for extended walls! Hurrah!

Soo pretteh <33

As of right now, the most common requests from users are for a trading/adoption center, gender changer, and egg renamer feature. Rest assured that all of these features will be released soon in the coming weeks when Ark City is all done. Since Ark City is a bigger project than we anticipated, it's going to be released in stages. Please remember that we're a new site and still trying to "balance things out" with all of the appropriate features, evolution stages, evolution difficulty, etc.

Thanks for being a part of the #1 fastest growing egg site in the world! Whoot!
