Is this a United States thing? Or will it impact other places too?

EDIT: Oh! Haha! I guess I'm on my storage. I didn't realise.

@solaristorage Even though SOPA/PIPA are US bills, if passed they would affect how various sites and even the internet itself works in other countries. For example: Youtube is found to have copyrighted material on it. Under SOPA Youtube would be taken down FOR EVERYONE.

@orderedchaos

Thanks for the info! I didn't realise.

Also, I'm glad that I can read a different language or else I wouldn't have been able to use Wikipedia at all today.

@iridescent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more The third point has links to the SOPA and PIPA articles where you can get a more detailed info.

Also, https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/, for a bit more simplified version of what they do.

@orderedchaos

I just read some of that wikipedia link. Very interesting. Thanks for posting it. I don't think it's right that one country can decide what others are allowed to view on the Internet.

Thanks guys^^
And seriously, maybe they should stop bootlegging first, then worry about online piracy 😋 I think it's harsh tp punish an entire website, I mean TONS of websites filter out infringement, if it doesn't eventually it gets reported, and then deleting. When a few kids in a class do something wrong, you root them out and punish them. The teacher may threaten to punish everyone in the class, and that'll lead the guilty to confess, otherwise the innocents will make sure they're found guilty anyway.

Would SOPA take down a site they considered to be an offender, or would they simply block it for all American users?

@duchess No idea ☹️

I would sign the petition, but I don't want to give them my full name and email address.

They should NEVER end YouTube. Can you imagine how angry people would be?!?!?

@rawrcookies08, Considering how angry everyone would be, I don't think it'll pass. *fingers crossed*

Google is blacked out now. It doesn't really affect anything... just that the normal "Google" logo on the homepage has a black censor-type bar over it.
