The solution to this is already in place and being practiced, in the form of all the LEs and monthlies released. Not everyone can have a macbot and a doovoo, that's just a reality. Maybe one day they WILL become unobtainable, but that's why there are constantly other creatures being released. The macbot and doovoo, objectively, aren't even that exceptional. They are the most wanted creatures because they are the most difficult to obtain, and people always want what they can't have. If they were everywhere, it's unlikely they would even be that popular. They've become a status symbol, some unattainable prize, but the solution isn't to release again. That's really not even an argument that should be happening, since Ian has stated explicitly that he will never re-release a creature again. As far as the quitting users go, they don't owe the newbies anything. They can keep their creatures if they want to, and frankly, it is none of your business.

@balletninjaIt's just like insanely rich people hoarding cars -_-
balletninja • 1 April 2012 at 1:12 PM
@meg Okay, but think about it. You are keeping your rares when you quit correct? If you aren't a ton of others are. And there are only so many rares out there. Once everyone with an onny quit there will no longer be an onny to trade for. Sure new people do get rares, but once people stop trading rares and keep them after they quit then there will be none to trade for.
icymuffin • 1 April 2012 at 1:12 PM
@balletninjaBut the thing is, at this point, it's probably too late for that.The "any creature ever released" & the Winter re-release were both just one time things. Plus the fact that the Doovoo/Macbot/Onny/Tine/etc. were all CC creatures or Limited Edition. Things that are Limited Edition naturally become rarer after some time, both due to collecting and some of them becoming unusable {in this case, dying}.{So I do not see how this would work very well...If anyone have a plan that would work, then I think you should state it. Just saying that something should be done withough having a plan won't get anyone anywhere quickly...}
leafpelt • 1 April 2012 at 1:12 PM
This is frustrating...@rinI can't, thinking of all the work.....i just can't@karamelrecolors like a blue tine would be 1 of a kind if they gave it in a giveaway....therefore increasing the unobtainable thing.
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:15 PM
@leafpelt Well, you don't have to trade them during your time on eggcave. But I think that when you quit, you should give them to someone else who will actually USE it for something. It won't just sit on your account and rot and make everyone else feel hopeless and terrible. And, after all, I'm only on this site because I still want to get my wishlist creatures. If you can't get your wishlist creatures, then there really isn't much point to being on the site. Since most of this is about trading. o3o
balletninja • 1 April 2012 at 1:15 PM
@plookle Okay. You got all mad at me in the end.I am thinking about the future. We do owe the new people something. A great experience as we had. I am not saying give them away but there does need to be some circulation so they can still be a goal. Without hope there is nothing. I know I am keeping some of mine, but that doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. I do stay out of other people's businesses. I am not blaming it on the users as much as the system.
leafpelt • 1 April 2012 at 1:17 PM
@rinI'm planning to give my rares to my most trusted friends who would not trade them.....
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:18 PM
@leafpelt Oh. :/Well I'm planning on giving mine to my friends, but I'm definitely going to allow them to trade them. It's just a virtual creature anyways. : P
plookle • 1 April 2012 at 1:20 PM
@balletninja I wasn't actually speaking to you, specifically. More to the community as a whole. I don't know you well, and I don't know how you carry yourself, personally, but the rush of people who attack a user's wall looking for handouts when he or she quits is disgusting. Even that though, is not as annoying as when people get pious and accusatory when the user chooses to keep his or her creatures. Just a hint guys, often when people do this it means that they think they may return to egg cave one day. No need to barrage them with rude, harassing posts and scare them away. That's why, although I've taken many hiatuses, I've never announced any of them.
leafpelt • 1 April 2012 at 1:20 PM
@rinTrue...I just don't want these creatures to go to people who don't care for them....no offense but this site feels like trading only...its stressing me out. i came to here for a break from RL not for drama...
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:22 PM
@leafpelt Well, people do love rares. I'm pretty sure anyone would be willing to take care of it as long as it's in their cove. >w<
balletninja • 1 April 2012 at 1:25 PM
@plookle I am not going to respond. I will flip a lid soon.Sorry I pointed out a problem with our perfect site.I am not putting it on the users though. The system is the problem.
harrypotter123698 • 1 April 2012 at 1:29 PM
@balletninja You do have a point. Eventually when Ian does re-release, everybody gets mad and quits. But what happens if they become un-obtainable, just like you said. I think Ian should once every year have a re-release when no-one is expecting it. (only release like 5 of a species that is almost un-obtainable).Fpr example, on a random day Ian might release 1-2 Doovoos or an Onny in the Cash Shop. Then one day in another year, he might release a few tines in the cave.
plookle • 1 April 2012 at 1:30 PM
@balletninja I'm just offering a differing perspective; no need to get upset. And I'm fairly certain that if you ask Ian this very question he will give you a similar answer. There are always new opportunities to get rare creatures which will soon become retired. There IS no viable solution to the problem you're describing, except this one.
leafpelt • 1 April 2012 at 1:30 PM
@rinNo.....I just don't think that oldies works are all wasted. I'm guessing that putting 1-2 in circulation once in a while thru a contest or something would be best....but you have to be at least _ old as a precaution.
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:33 PM
@leafpelt I still think that's unfair. So now you'd be giving them rares for free through a raffle? Where's the work for it? I think that when you quit you should just quit and give up your creatures. If you're quitting, you'll have no use for them anyways.
zafeyry • 1 April 2012 at 1:35 PM
@balletninja@plookle has a point. The Doovoo and Macbot are only status symbols. It's not like they're pixel Mona Lisas, in my opinion they're ugly.
icymuffin • 1 April 2012 at 1:36 PM
@rinBut as plookle said, they still do hold onto the hope they'll return one day. Why give away your creatures when you think you'll be back?
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:37 PM
@icymuffin Well, if someone was going to be coming back, then that would be a haitus, not quitting. So, if they were going on haitus then I'm perfectly fine with that.
isra • 1 April 2012 at 1:37 PM
I'm still something of a noob here... but I gotta say that I agree with @Plookle on the matter of re-releases or expecting someone who's leaving for a while to give up their creatures. Particularly when those creatures were bought for CC, which costs real, earned money, just taking them away because a person has been inactive for a while or decides to go on hiatus pretty much amounts to theft in my book.Yes, I've got a wishlist that I would like to get creatures off of, and yes, I understand that it's going to take me a while to get them, if I can get them at all. But the effort I put into obtaining those creatures will make them all the more valuable to me than if they were simply re-released so that new members can get a free and easy ride to filling their cove with the creatures they want.
icymuffin • 1 April 2012 at 1:41 PM
@rinBut how would they know? Either way, all I'm saying is that we shouldn't demand that they hand over their creatures. That seems to me what this is basically stating. For me, the Doovoo & Macbot do seem to be symbols of status but for some people it is also the hard work put into it as well as the "memories/meanings...?" that are associated with the creature itself.I cling onto mine because 1) they do complete an egg collection & 2) the Doovoo was once adopted in from a close friend and the Macbot is it's sister pair. :I
leafpelt • 1 April 2012 at 1:43 PM
@rinLONG "hiatus+ can sometimes be a quitter.No..they have to work for it....like most feeds contest or something...its still rare oppertunities though....
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:44 PM
@icymuffin I see your point, and I do agree with you. I think if someone is /100% sure/ that they want to quit and don't want to come back, they should give up their creatures. They could at least give it to one of their trusted friends and ask them not to trade it. That way they wouldn't be left behind on a dead account.
lizardfeather • 1 April 2012 at 1:44 PM
This is just my opinion, but the super-rare creatures are pretty much like trophies that you really have to work to obtain. And like trophies they're not always going to be obtainable :U And if someone quits they pretty much have a right to let their account rot because they worked for/got the creatures. If they want to give them out that's just generosity, and if they don't I think it's understandable. Although if Ian implemented some sort of time period like 3 years of inactivity and then the account would be deleted (like Neopets) that might at least make the users come back if they really wanted to, and if not then the creatures are just gone and then there's nothing to worry about.
icymuffin • 1 April 2012 at 1:46 PM
@rinAnd usually they do.For example, pachi. ;A; {And there was another, but since she deleted her account, I have no record of our conversations. Dx }Take Zac, he came back a few time since he's quit. Not everything is 100%
Deleted • 1 April 2012 at 1:47 PM
@leafpelt Alright, I see what you mean. Well, if all of the rare creatures end up being stuck in dead accounts, and they are no longer obtainable, I do think that Ian should re-release them. ;P
leafpelt • 1 April 2012 at 2:20 PM
@lizardfeatherNO...;if the accounts are deleted.....the creatures are gone forever...wat if that user forgot to give the creature bakc? I think it caused chaos once.@rinMaybe after a while...the oldie should set a time limit or something...
neo428984 • 1 April 2012 at 5:49 PM
I get your point, I do...I know I won't be here forever (I mean, really, that's a really long time to hold on to some pixels), but I cannot imagine giving away most of my rarest, most sought after creatures. One of the main problems is I don't really trust anyone enough to say "Here, take my Macbot, Doovoo and Onny I paid 15 of my own dollars for"...it doesn't seem fair. If I spent the money, I don't see why I should feel obligated to give it away for free to someone I don't necessarily trust just because I'm not going to be around much anymore.Yes, only some 16 creatures of my 118 are immortal so I don't need to worry about someone else killing them...but then why shouldn't I keep them on my own account to stop by and admire every once in awhile?I'm not saying I hate everyone here, because that's certainly not the case - there are a select few users I truly enjoy talking to and keeping up with - and I'd probably give away most of my creatures if I quit, but my beloved CCs and a few select LEs? Probably not.In short: don't watch for me leaving to try and get my Doovoo, haha.

I think people over react here at EC. Ok, you worked hard for that, you had your fun, now rest.If someone else gets a chance at a dream creature that's nice!I hate this escalating thing with rarity. Because people are being selfish. You got your favorites, why you hate the idea of someone else getting theirs? If you worked hard, congratulations, you had your fun. Now let other people, in their own means get a dream creature.I got my foo from @clepsidra from the 2011 re-realease, who knew I wanted one since they were realeased in 2009 (the first time I participated in cave). I got my Halldrag from a quitting user (@auraboros), after I've been looking for one for months. So yeah, I get it's stressful when people beg for your pets or the CC you have. But that comes with the power of having them.I don't mind re-realeses. I don't mind raffles. I don't mind giveways. I think all of that is fair game.
