Well, i don't know where to put this one but i really need help in this thing xDI have a metang in pokemon white and I am trying to EV train it in attack.I battled several druddigons, mienfoos and goletts with it and counted up the attack EVs i got until i got 152 EVs.But one thing i am concerned about is if i will get the stat boosts when i level up one level or are they divided into several levels? (i should get around 38 attack stat, but will they be divided into ex. 9-10 levels with 4 stat increasements in each level?)Any idea what i should do or what happened?
evolutary • 5 July 2011 at 9:29 PM
You should keep training it until 252 EVs, because 255 can't be divided by 4 so you're wasting 3 EVs. Every 4 EVs gives you 1 point in that stat when you level up. So it wouldn't immediately +63 when you level up. It spreads over the levels and eventually even out on level 100. I suggest you train 252 EVs in defence and 6 in hp or something. Hope this helps!
phoenix • 6 July 2011 at 3:37 PM
Well, i am thinking about ev training my metang this way:252 in attack.Enough in speed until i can outrun several pokemons (with agility of course)And the leftovers on HP since def and sp.def is already huge.I am going to evolve my metang of course, and he is adamant nature (thanks to synchronize adamant munna!)And i will of course also give it protein, zinc and hp up, thats why i only EV trained for 152 instead of 252.But if they are ex. level 99, and i ev train them with 252 attack EV. and they level up, will they get +60 (random number) since after this the pokemon will be level 100 and it can't go above that, so it won't be able to gain stats.I also read in serebii.net that in peokemon black/white, the EV stats get gained directly after each 4 ev (since that is the amount that gives a stat point) and won't need to level up to get the stats, but what about in pokemon heartgold and pearl? since i have those too and i ev train (especially on pearl due to action replay)
evolutary • 7 July 2011 at 4:04 AM
I forgot that Black and White EV stats were different.I'm pretty sure that HeartGold/SoulSilver EV stats are the same as Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. I don't really know since I only have D/P/P.
phoenix • 7 July 2011 at 11:00 AM
@evolutary Yes they are the same, but what about them? i have a slowbro in pearl i am EV training in sp.atk and sp.def but i am using action replay, and right now it is at level 70, and i don't think it will be able to get all stat points before getting to level 100.And something weird just happened, i tried giving my metang a protein (increases atk) but it didn't work! it usually won't work because the EVs are maxed, but it isn't! i am 100% sure that i EV trained it in attack only up to 152 atk EV. what's wrong? the same thing happened to my slowking and slowbro in pokemon pearl.EDIT: Here is something interesting i found in serebii:EV's are calculated at +1 Stat point per 4 EV's at level 100, which means you won't see the full benefit of the EV's you put into your Pok?mon until it reaches that level; there will still be a benefit, just not as significant as when it reaches the maximum level. So that is why my metangs stats are still kinda low ๐ฑ
evolutary • 8 July 2011 at 7:57 AM
Have you already trained your Metang in the other stats? The max number of EVs in total is 510. I think that your Slowbro and Slowking will be able to get all 510 EVs. If not, maybe close to it but there IS a trick to increase your stats (if you haven't maxed your EVs already) when they have already reached level 100. Every 4 EVs you gain, deposit that pokemon back into the PC box and that stat should go up by 1. Note that this only works every 4 EVs gained, so you have to put it in the PC box every time you gain 4 EVs which is pretty tedious, which is why people EV train before they reach level 100.Yeah, the protein and stuff (vitamins) like that don't seem to work on mine either when I'm sure they're not maxed (they only speed up EV training so don't worry). Also, each vitamin raises that one stat by 10 EVs.
swymr_krys • 8 July 2011 at 8:08 AM
Sounds like @evolutary has it all here. If you want any more help, psypokes.com is a really good website for pokemon help. That and bulbapedia.
phoenix • 8 July 2011 at 6:15 PM
Nope, my metang only has 152/510 EVs โน๏ธOh! didn't know that @evolutary! thanks ๐I know what the vitamins do, but it seems that they don't work if i already EV trained them by battling :l even if i haven't maxed out that stat.In case it has anything with this to do, my slowbro and slowking are both shiny but neither them nor my metang has PoKerus@swymr_krys don't forget marilland.com and serebii.net ๐I didn't know about psypokes.com but i do know about bulbapedia ^^

I hae pokemon heartgold and I need help to get past mt.mortar would anyone know how to get past this cave?
evolutary • 8 July 2011 at 10:03 PM
@phoenix pokerus only doubles the EVs gained and there is a 1/8192 (like the rate of a shiny pokemon) for your pokemon to catch pokerus. Every pokemon you kill has a chance for your pokemon to be infected. Both of my pokemon games have caught pokerus! ๐ If you manage to get pokerus, spread it around by battling pokemon with that infected pokemon and it should spread to your other pokemon.Pokerus doubles the rate of EVs gained. Another good item that is great for EV training (I use it all the time) are the power items. Power anklet, for example gives you +4 EVs in speed after every BATTLE, not every pokemon. I was training my Espeon with it and I went to train in the Pokemon League, and I did not gain much speed when I leveled because the battle was too long, which was why I trained on golducks and gained pokerus!@fiera919 I don't have HeartGold so I can't help you sorry, but you can search up guides on google. Psypokes has the guide ๐
phoenix • 9 July 2011 at 3:12 PM
@Evolutary actually, i once sent a few pokemon from emerald to pearl, and almost 30% of them had pokerus, so i think it is an increased change for pokemons caught trough palpark ๐Really? both? how cool ๐ฑ none of mine has caught pokerus except for pearl but that is because of migrating from emerald XlHere is a trick for pokerus:pokemons who has pokerus can infect it on your party pokemons too, so this is a good thing to do:Bring one pokemon who has pokerus into your party and 5 else who doesn't.Keep checking on your party until one of the 5 others has caught pokerus.Put the newly pokerus pokemon back into the PC.After some time, almost all your party pokemons should have caught pokerus, but the original one who had pokerus now has a smile instead, which indicates that pokerus can't infect other pokemons anymore.Buyt the pokemon in your PC still has pokerus since the pokerus on pokemons in the PC is 'frozen' and can't turn into a smile ๐Power items are mega good! And cheap too!I never EV train in battles lol xD@fiera919 why not google for a map? mt. mortar is easy with a map, but you might want to use repels if you are disturbed of zubats. besides, mt.mortar is useless unless you need a tyrogue or if you are using sinnoh/hoenn sound. You don't need to go trough it for the story mode.

whats ev trining??? ๐ฑ
phoenix • 9 July 2011 at 4:28 PM
@Rabbitwanter http://www.serebii.net/games/evs.shtmlThat might clear up all confusion ๐
blitzvalor • 9 July 2011 at 4:43 PM
Training is easy, but tedious. Im training sections of my team to beat out the AI in White and get all the prizes and such, and maybe for some PvP battling๐lol, i was waiting for a Pokemon thread๐ธ
phoenix • 9 July 2011 at 6:01 PM
AI? PvP? and lol, i think there is a pokemon chat thread too xD or i can make one ^^ there was a pokemon RP thread but it went so slow that everyone stopped posting in it โน๏ธAnd training might be easy but i need to know why vitamins don't work on my metang, even though it only has 152 EVs in attack and thats it, no EVs in anything else ๐ฑ an attack wing (which are dropped at bridges in black and white) works but not vitamins โน๏ธEDIT: just remembered something when i EV trained Entei:I EV trained it with 255 atk and 255 sp.def (i know, i should have ev trained it in speed instead) but after i finished ev training, i just leveled it up with rare candied.Did the EV get calculated or did i ev train for no use? since i think i heard somewhere that leveling uo trough rare candied won't get the ev calculated โน๏ธ
Deleted • 12 July 2011 at 2:12 AM
Thnx phoenix! That helps.
evolutary • 12 July 2011 at 3:46 AM
@phoenix leveling up with rare candies is fine. It wouldn't be calculated if your EVs weren't maxed, but since they are, they'd calculate and even out at the end. Some people say the rare candies aren't good for leveling since you could have gained EVs if you leveled up the normal way (also goes for the Daycare Centre), but if it's maxed, rare candies are absolutely alright for leveling!
phoenix • 12 July 2011 at 12:14 PM
@evolutary Thats good ๐ฑ then i don't need to worry for rare candy leveling ^^ thank you ๐@fiera919 you're welcome ^^And btw, this is the moveset for my dragonite in pokemon white (i will get a new dragonite to correctly ev train soon):Dragon rushEarthquakeDragon danceAqua tail. This is my goal:Fire punch (For ice pokemons)Thunder punch (For water pokemons since they usually know ice moves)Dragon danceDragon rush/OutrageI need to know, should i give her Outrage or dragon rush? i usually play 2v2 matches so outrage is completely random who it hits, but dragon rush has kinda bad accuracy. And if i select outrage i will need to give her a persim berry for curing confusion โน๏ธ
evolutary • 12 July 2011 at 10:32 PM
@phoenix outrage is random sometimes but has good power and accuracy, but the bad thing is (as you said) causes confusion, and the berry is one use. Dragon Rush has low accuracy and missing is HORRIBLE! I missed and it cost me the battle! You could team your Dragonite up with a pokemon that knows Safeguard, or another option is dragon claw, which is 80 power and 100 accuracy, with no secondary effects (I find this move boring but it's really good.) Also, Salamence is faster, but cannot learn the elemental punches, but instead the elemental fangs. The power is 65 and 95 accuracy which is low power (unSTABed) and has a chance to miss, even though it's unlikely. STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus, which boosts up the power of attacks of the same type as your pokemon by 50%. A good item to hold would be the Expert Belt which boosts up supereffective moves by 20% and is good if you have unSTABed attacks that cover a variety of types. For example, if I had a Starmie with Hydro Pump, since it is part water, instead of having 120 power, it will have 180!
phoenix • 13 July 2011 at 4:25 PM
I think i will go with outrage, but i need to test dragon claw out, it might be able to OHKO (or 2KO) at least a Gyarados if i fully EV train a dragonite in attack ๐ฑAnd safeguard? nah, outrage is still random then โน๏ธ and what if i skill swap own tempo to dragonite? what happens then? (own tempo prevents confusion)And i am trying to transfer over a salamence to white (i catch them in pearl and transfer over) but i have recently transfered an alakazam and i need to EV train it too ๐ฑI know what most pokemon abbreviations stand for so no need to worry ^^
evolutary • 14 July 2011 at 7:38 AM
Switching abilities will work, though only for the battle, so you don't really need skill swap. What skills are you going to teach Salamence and Alakazam? Just wondering since I'm bored xD
phoenix • 14 July 2011 at 11:06 AM
Skills? well, this is what my goals for them are:Alakazam:Ability: Synchronize (works great outside and inside battle ๐ธ)Nature: Modest ๐EV training: 252 sp.atk. 100 spd (or more if it isn't enough, i will need at least around 150 spd stat.) and the rest on defense ๐Move set: Psychic, charge beam, reflect, thunder wave. This is only a test move set and i might change it, but reflect is there because my alakazam currently has very low defense ๐ฑAny ideas about 2 other offensive moves? Psychic is a must and so is thunder wave ^^Salamence:Ability: IntimidateNature: Adamant/JollyEV training: 252 atk. around 100 spd. rest on HP or sp.def.Move set: Dragon claw, Dragon dance, Fire fang, Thunder fang/Aerial aceI need move set tips on salamence too, but Dragon claw and dragon dance are a must for him. So is fire fang for defeating fire pokemons ๐ธ (i could teach him fire blast too but only if his special attack isn't low enough)And skill swapping only works for battles, yes i know that, and skill swapping is mostly only useful for slaking and regigigas too xD
evolutary • 14 July 2011 at 10:14 PM
@phoenix awesome! Hey I could rent that Salamence at the Battle Factory! Lol, anyway continuing on...Alakazam:I don't think you should train defense since it's very low and it wouldn't make a difference but your choice๐ You could get Shadow Ball for ghosts and psychic types, or Thunderbolt instead of Charge Beam (for more power) however, Charge Beam has a 70% chance of raising your Special Attack. Or Ice Beam, whatever you think is necessary๐Salamence:I have used your type of Salamence before and it sweeps everything! You could get Fire Blast if you want since Salamence does have quite high Special Attack, and Fire Blast's power makes up for it (or Flamethrower if you don't want to miss) and then you'll have no trouble with those high defense pokemon!๐ธEdit: I made a list of all unique type combo pokemon. Have a look if you're interested. http://eggcave.com/forums/topic/2609
phoenix • 15 July 2011 at 12:24 PM
@evolutary how can you rent it at the battle factory? what do you mean? And alakazam can't learn thunderbolt nor ice beam unless i use action replay but i can't use it now since it doesn't work on my pokemon white ๐ฑLol, yeah, defense wouldn't really matter but with reflect it could be devastating xD (if i train defense to around 80 and use reflect, the defense would be treated like 160!)Shadow ball is important but i have seen that i need energy ball more due to the many water pokemons of the battle subway (seriously, i have seen milotic 3 times there and lost 2 times to it! i won one time due to my ferrothorn!)Hmm...yeah, fire blast could easily OHKO ferrothorn, metagross, skarmory, sceptile ect. due to salamence's high sp.atk and fire blasts incredible power! besides, it almost never misses since it has 85 accuracy and not 70 ๐ but i could give salamence wide lens (which ups accuracy of moves) and teach him dragon rush! or i could teach him hone claws instead of dragon dance but i really need the speed boost of dragon dance!EDIT: checked that topic ๐ธ
evolutary • 15 July 2011 at 9:47 PM
@phoenix hehehe. In Pokemon Platinum, after you defeat the Pokemon League, you can go to this place called the Battle Frontier. Now there's this facility called the Battle Factory which is my favourite. Instead of using your own pokemon, you get to rent other pokemon to use, either level 50 or 100. You can rent up to 3 pokemon out of 6 random ones. So, your moveset on Salamence, I have used before because they have that Salamence in the Battle Factory. I didn't know Alakazam can't learn the BoltBeam combo? Wide lens gives a 10% boost to your accuracy of moves (rounded down). Depends what you think is more important. Accuracy or Speed? Me, I LOVE fast pokemon, but I HATE missing! So, it's up to you. I have this Starmie that had Hydro Pump, Thunder, Blizzard and Psychic. I kept missing and it cost me the battle!
phoenix • 16 July 2011 at 5:00 PM
@evolutary there is a battle factory in heartgold too, sadly the pokemon rented there have terrible move sets. seriously, a milotic with only surf as it's offensive move in DOUBLE battle?Really? the battle factory can read my mind! What item speeds up salamence then?Bah, starmie with thunder? thunderbolt is the way to go if you don't have rain support ๐Surprisinlgy enough, thunder always hits MY pokemon in the battle subway >.<And here is another question:Klinklang is giving me serious problems with everything! i don't know what nature, EVs or move set to give it! ideas? since it is very limited to physical moves and it's special attack is low โน๏ธAnd any ideas on EV training for an offensive jellicent?
evolutary • 16 July 2011 at 10:02 PM
@phoenix I have another Starmie with BoltBeam, Surf and Psychic, and another one with the 120 powers.Wow, Klinklang has a very limited movepool! I checked it up on Psypokes. Klinklang is quite fast for a steel type, and high defense, so the natures you should get are: Jolly, Adamant or Impish. Depends if you want speed, attack or defense more. I don't know a good moveset for it though, as it's only physical steel move is Gear Grind. Shift Gear is a good status move, that raises attack by 1 stage, and speed by 2 stages. You could EV train it in attack, defense or speed. But if you're going to have Shift Gear, then speed isn't really necessary. Your choice, but I don't know either.
phoenix • 17 July 2011 at 2:25 PM
Yeah, klinklang is very fast D: i usually team up with a NPC in multi battle and their klinklang has 140 speed stat!Gear grind and shift gear are too good to not have, so that leaves me with 2 other moves.I could teach it return since it has a maximum base damage of 109 ๐ฑ If i am going to have shift gear then i will EV train it the same i did with my metagross:252 atk.enough speed so that i have at least 80 stat in speed at level 50 (my metagross has 97 stat in speed and outruns everything with an agility, except for when it gets paralyzed or when i am facing a crobat or accelgor)Yeah, boltbeam starmie is great! but starmie can also learn grass knot, and awesome grass move for bulky waters! And my metagross is pure strength! after i finished EV training it (it doesn't have any gender, that's why it is an it) i tried it out in the battle subway and it is doing great! OHKOing many pokemons!Well, right now i am going to EV train my golett, then i think i will EV train either my tynamo or gligar ๐
evolutary • 19 July 2011 at 4:51 AM
Awesome! See, all the EV training was worth it๐ I have a pokemon that has a base speed of 90 and on level 50 it has around 120+ speed (but of course, it's IVs are speed with a speed raising nature.) Some good natures for Gligar would be Adamant, Impish or Jolly. Depends which stat is more important.Tynamo and it's evolutions are awesome! No weaknesses!
treelar • 19 July 2011 at 2:24 PM
@evolutary I am @phoenix from my storage, just so you know ๐ธAdamant or jolly would be great for gligar, especiallly if i combine them with acrobatics and liechi/lansat berry ๐ฑTynamo also works great in an earthquake team! being able to levitate and evade the damage from earthquake while the opponents get damaged from one of the strongest attacks!I am currently EV training (on pearl) my slowbro and slowking, they are the lead pokemons of my trick room team, this is the whole team:SlowbroAbility: Own tempoItem: LeftoverNature: SassyEV: 255 sp.atk, 255 sp.def (too lazy to train only to 252 ๐)brineshadow balltrick roomslack off
