Yes, you may! The flowers are a nice touch. I love flowers.

You can go ahead and have your character approach the stand. c:

Kali saw a crowd gathering around a booth. Careful not to run over any toes, she wheeled her chair to the edge of the booth. There were all kinds of odd things laid out.

She kept her distance, not really sure what to think, but the gemstones caught her eye. She wheeled closer are turned her chair to the side so that she could see better. She lightly touched an aquamarine, enthralled by the shades of blue and teal.

Laurel had her back turned when Kali approached. She was fiddling with the old radio, trying to tune out the low buzz in the background. The station was currently playing Elvis' "Love Me Tender", fading in and out of a flat sea of static.

Somewhat satisfied, Laurel turned back around only to notice somebody had approached the stall. She plucked the blue stone up from the bowl and flashed Kali a bright smile. "Pretty, aren't they?" she asked conversationally. "I like them better like this, when they're not cut and polished. The colors get swirly and remind me of the ocean." She placed the stone delicately back in the bowl and then leaned forward onto the table, pushing her weight into her broad palms. The table creaked forward slightly.

"So, are you here looking to make a friend?" she asked brightly. "It's free of charge today, in honor of the street fair."

Kali blushed when the lady approached. She seemed friendly...

"Um... I'm sorry I just saw that stone and... um.. a friend? What do you mean by that?" She stuttered. She wasn't sure what the lady meant. She moved her chair back a little. "I suppose maybe I could use a friend, but I don't understand..."

"Don't be sorry!" Laurel replied immediately. "If I didn't want people looking at them, I wouldn't have them out." She pushed herself off the table to stand up straight again. The corner of the desk had left a crease in her apron.

"I'll take that as a yes," she continued playfully, again swiping up the aquamarine. "It's easy, don't worry. I'll walk you through it. I assume you like this one best, right? You have to pick a stone."

"Um... yes. I really like the colours of it." She said, not really sure what was going on. How was a rock going to get her a friend? Maybe it was a personality test or something to check for compatibility? She really wasn't sure.

"It's pretty," Laurel agreed. She bent down and dropped the aquamarine stone into the large brass kettle. It landed with a clanging sound, like a bell. Then, she turned back to Kali with a broad smile. "Next, you have to pick one of these plants." She tapped on the metal rack with her right pointer finger. "What's your name, by the way?" she added. It wasn't necessary to the process; Laurel just liked to know who she was working with.

The radio had moved on to a different song, something she didn't recognize. It sounded old; most of the station's songs were from the seventies or before.

"My name's Kali..." she said quietly, wheeling over to the plants. She looked over at a lotus and pointed to it. "That one."

The lady was unusual, but likable. Kali wondered what she was up to, but didn't want to question her.

"That's a pretty name," Laurel said absentmindedly. She picked up the lotus gently and let it fall into the kettle. "People usually choose these two together," she added conversationally. "The aquamarine and the lotus. I guess they just go together? Anyway, next I need you to choose either one or two of these scents." Noting that it might be hard for her to reach, Laurel picked up the bottles and placed them at the edge of the table. She was able to carry all six at once, fitting their necks in between her fingers.

Kali grabbed each one in turn eagerly. She loved scented oils and things like that. She took a short smell of each, taking care to pause between each so as not to get them mixed up. She thought hard for a second, then set them back up on the table.

"The mint and the..." she hesitated, not sure if she was correct "Lemongrass?"

Laurel turned the bottle around so that the label was facing her. The bottles were all identical from the back, see-through and filled with clear liquid. "That's lemongrass," she confirmed with a nod, and squeezed one drop of it into the kettle. Next, she squeezed one drop of the mint scent in behind it. The liquid landed in the kettle with a soft plink.

"The last thing you need to choose is one of these," she explained, tapping on the glass-faced case. "Any one is fine." Her smile had grown a bit wider since they had begun. She was excited to see how this new friend would turn out.

Kali looked into the case. It was by far the most odd of the collections of items...

"The claw." she said. She was curious to see what this was all about.

Simply smiling, Laurel unlocked the case and removed the claw from it. She dropped the claw into the kettle, swiftly removing her hand from its mouth in case something might happen. Nothing came out of the kettle, but if you looked closely, you could see tiny droplets of water condensing around its base. She relocked the case diligently and slipped the key back in her apron pocket.

"Now we just need to put a little bit of you in there," she concluded. "I usually ask for a hair. It's the cleanest. If you really wanted, you could spit in it or something." She grinned a little at her own joke.

Kali was a little freaked out by the last request, but nevertheless grabbed a hair and handed it to her. What on earth could she want with that? What kind of booth was this?

"Thank you," Laurel replied brightly. She either missed the girl's discomforted expression or chose to ignore it entirely. With quick motions, she dropped the hair into the kettle, stirred its contents three times with the wooden spoon, and flipped it over onto the ground. Oddly enough, the individual components that had gone into the kettle were not audible rolling around while she was stirring.

She placed her foot on top of the kettle and waited, counting to ten in her head. "And done!" she announced, grabbing the kettle and flipping it back right side up.

On the ground was a ovular hunk of what appeared to be pale aquamarine. It was perfectly smooth, as if polished.

"Just a minute," Laurel said, disappearing into the back regions of the tent. She returned slowly after a minute, dragging a ten-gallon fish tank behind her. It was mostly full and rather heavy, and she had to pull it slowly so that it wouldn't spill. Finally she positioned it at the front of the tent, and placed the gemlike orb in the water. Waiting, she clasped her hands together. A small scraping noise could be heard.

Suddenly, a tiny cracking sound was heard, and simultaneously the whole tank was covered in a thin veil of ice. -c

Laurel chuckled bashfully and picked up her wooden spoon. The ice distorted the view inside the fish tank, but something was visible moving around in the middle of it. Sharply, she struck the surface of the ice with the spoon.

The ice was thicker than she had anticipated; that first swat barely dented it. Using both hands this time, Laurel swung at the icy top of the tank. It gave way, opening up a small hole into the water.

From this gap, a little head poked its way out. The creature looked to be some kind of eagle. Its feathers were white with thin grey rachises, except for just outside its eyes. Those feathers were ashen grey, like they had been smudged with color from the creature's twinkling eyes. It gaped its mouth slightly, squirming its body, before submerging once more. It appeared it didn't have room to get out.

Laurel took another shot at the ice, breaking away a larger portion. After a few seconds, the creature made another attempt at escape. It clawed its way out of the tank halfway using grey, black-clawed talons, but somehow the position of its legs seemed wrong. With a wriggle it managed to free its wings. Its underwing covert feathers were the same snowy white as its head, while its primary feathers were smokey grey. It continued to pull itself out of the tank, and about halfway down its torso, the water-repellant feathers gave way to thick fur.

The creature's rear half looked like that of a snow leopard. Its white fur was thick and covered in black and grey leopard markings. It had short, powerful back legs and a long, thick tail. Making a disgruntled noise, it shook itself out once all four of its feet were on the ground. Icy cold water splashed onto Laurel's tablecloth and onto Kali's feet.

"Ice," Laurel said to herself incredulously. "Huh. Must have been the mint." Her eyes drifted back to Kali and she waited eagerly for the girl's expression.

Name: Christa Hunter
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Appearance: She is about 5'9" and sometimes if she isn't paying attention she'll walk on her toes. She has light brown hair with blonde highlights mixed in. Her hair is very thick and she has a long bang that covers half her left eye. She has dark blue eyes and she wears glasses, they are simple black plastic ones. She has freckles across her nose and her cheeks. Her skin has alight tan to it from spending so much time outside. When she is put under a lot of pressure her left hand begins to twitch.
Personality: She is very quiet and shy, she lets everyone push her around. She becomes upset easily and no matter how much she tries she can't make herself stand up to anyone. What she lacks in physical strength she makes up for in brain smarts as she's quite the braniac, she is the brain of her family. She is very patient with everyone which helps her social skills meaning she makes friends pretty easily. At times, she'd much prefer to be surrounded by animals rather than people.
Other: She has finished high school and is currently trying to figure out which college she wishes to attend.

@silver_winged I don't think a first post will fit. XD

Kali looked down at the creature, stunned.

"What... what is it?"

She wheeled closer and reached out to touch its beak. It was surprisingly cold... She wasn't really sure what to think.

"What do you even feed it?"

Sounds like a fine character to me. c: And now you have plenty of room for a post!

@dada_dragon

Laurel stared at the creature for a moment, seeming puzzled. "I think it's a snow gryphon," she mused. "Obviously it's some kind of gryphon--avian-feline body is a dead giveaway. Though I've never actually seen one of this build or this color. Or with these kind of powers. It's exciting, isn't it?" She flashed a bright smile and leaned in a little closer to the creature.

The gryphon let out an uncomfortable screech when Laurel got too close. It closed the gap between itself and Kali in a few short bounds, leaping up into her lap and curling itself protectively. The feathers on its neck were standing up.

Rather than acting hurt, Laurel simply began to laugh. "Okay then," she mumbled. "You could start with either cat food or small game. Gryphons generally like stuff like rabbits and mice. This one looks like it's a swimmer, so I would try fish first. After a few months, it'll be able to hunt for itself."

She was a bit puzzled as to the girl's unemotional response. Most people thanked her by this point.

Kali was a little surprised when it jumped up onto her lap. It was cute. Feeding it shouldn't be a problem. It was exercise she was most concerned about... She had a dog before, but she'd had to give him to a friend when she'd had her accident.

"Do you think I'll be able to handle taking care of it?" She asked the lady. "Even being in this wheelchair?"

Laurel raised an eyebrow. This girl sure was a on odd one.

"This stand isn't for adopting exotic pets, y'know," she reminded the girl with a knowing smile. "It's for making friends." She moved back around behind her card table, leaning her elbows onto it for rest.

"The creatures you'll see here are ones that rarely if ever live in human cities. They're extremely self-sufficient. As long as you love and cherish them they'll be fine--unless, that is, your soul starts to rot. But that doesn't happen on accident." She laughed a little.

Kali blushed.

"I... I'm sorry..." she said, stroking the gryphon's head. It made an odd purring noise. "I just... wasn't expecting this... I will keep him... I just... I needed to make sure I could handle him..."

Unless her soul started to rot? What was this girl going on about? This visit to the booth was definitely not what she had expected.

@silver_winged Finally managed to come up wih a good first post. ^^

Laughter echoed through the large noise of the fair as Christa chatted with her friends. Though she held a surprisingly soft voice her laugh was rather loud. She smiled at her friends and soon to be collage roomies, enjoying the day so far. What could be better than going to the local street fair with some friends and just hanging out, looking at the many different shops?

She had been about to say more when something in the corner of her eyes caught her attention. A little green canopy tent sat there, out of the way of the street. It was one of those places that Christa had seen before but never paid much attention to. She then saw the word "Friends" and the sandwich board with the writing on it. 'Huh? Are these people giving away friends? What the heck could that mean?' Christa asked herself. She then looked at her friends, "I'll catch up with you guys later." They nodded and continued on.

Christa stared at the tent for a moment, and finally, overcome by curiousity, walked towards it. She stood outside the tent, not knowing if she could just walk in. Finally, she shrugged to herself and stepped inside the tent.

@dada_dragon @hedwig68 It's an open-air tent. More like a canopy than anything. Visible from all sides. c:
-

Laurel let out a sigh. "So much missing from people these days," she remarked. "Where's the sense of adventure? A thousand years ago, men and women would throw down their tools and walk all the way to Jerusalem, just like that! Anyway, you've just been given something new and exciting. Try and enjoy it."

She snapped to attention as another girl approached the tent. She was a good five or six inches taller than Laurel was, but it didn't discomfort her. "Good morning! How may I help you?"

@dada_dragon @silver_winged Oh, okay! 😊

Christa took a tiny step back, very surprised by the woman's perkiness. She loomed over the woman and she had to tilt her head down to look at her. She then looked over at the shop closely. She saw many items, most of which she didn't know of. She then saw a girl in a wheelchair, holding strange creature.

Christa then realized that she hadn't aswered the woman and she quickly asked, "On that board outside, it um said "Frre Today Only". I was wondering what exactly was free." She explained, hoping she didn't sound like an idiot because she didn't know. She shuffled her feet and pushed he glasses back as they fell to the tip of her nose.

As the other girl approached the tent, Kali's gryphon decided to jump off her lap and go see the newcomer.

"Hey!" she exclaimed in surprise. "Don't run off!"

The gryphon looked up at the girl and sniffed her curiously, looking ready to run if she felt threatened.

-Just like a cat...- thought Kali.
