Dust was kicked up as a young girl walked across the surface of the planet. Vendors were set up all around her, all of them selling a glowing pale jewel. Several of the vendors were yelling things, trying to sell the things. Some dare to go up and touch them, and the girl just looked in disgust.

"Kid, come over and look at these beautiful rocks. You would look real good with this necklace on." The girl glared and kept walking, picking up her pace. She quickly walked out of the market where they were selling the glowing rocks.

Cassandra walked across the planet, laughing as Tristan, her 'brother' poked her with a finger. " Oh, come on Tristan, stop bugging me about it. I promise I won't try to. " She said, rolling her eyes at the boy walking beside her. " I'm not *that* stupid. "

" Come, come buy these beautiful jewels! " A voice called out, and she turned around, spotting a male who was waving his arms around, trying to catch everyone's attention. Cassidey turned away in disgust, shaking her head. " Come on. Let's go somewhere else, Trist. " She muttered, and dragged the boy away from the market place. " Those idiots don't know anything about those jewels. " Cassidey added, glaring as the man escaped his shop to race after her. " Away. Now. " She snapped, inching away from the man, not wishing to touch his dirty fingers.


She spotted a young girl walking away in disgust. It wasn't often that you saw a girl reject such a jewel. It seemed that most girls adored the jewels, claiming them as pretty, and a beautiful piece of art. Smiling, she grabbed Tristan's arm and calmly walked over to the girl, not wanting to seem threatening, or like one of those vendors in any way. " Hello, " she greeted warmly, and slapped Tristan's shoulder as he attempted to sneak away. " My name's Cassandra, but you can call me Cassidey, or Cass if you'd like. " Cassandra added. She extended a hand to shake, not sure if the girl would run away in fear, or stay put.

Tristan smirked. " I never said you were stupid. " He replied evenly, and glared at the stupid shop owners who were trying to sell dangerous stuff to them. " No one wants your dirty stuff, go away. " Tristan snapped, and quickened his pace so that they were quickly getting farther and farther away from the market.

Seeing as the vendor kept chasing after them, he stopped short, and let Cassandra do the talking. Once she was finished, he dragged her away, and Cassandra took interest in a young girl. He shook his head. " Cass, we have to - " But he was quickly interrupted by a hand smacked on his shoulder.

Wincing, he gave in and held a hand to his shoulder, glaring at the angry looking red mark. " Alright, " he sighed. " My name's Tristan, call me whatever you'd like. It's nice to meet you. " Tristan greeted in a voice that wasn't as warm as Cassandra's, as if he was talking with someone he didn't approve of much. He was always wary of strangers, especially young ones. They were always the worst- those young children loved to jump on his back and demand piggyback rides from him, or try pushing him around. But they were always nice to Cassidey, for some reason. They never pushed her around, they only smiled up at her quietly, although the children never really liked talking to her as much as they enjoyed talking, or more like shouting, at Tristan.

The girl turned around, seeing two kids. They were older then her, and introduced themselves. She crossed her arms, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Have you come in contact with the glowing jewels?" Her voice was calm, but stern, something you wouldn't expect from a thirteen year old girl.

Ky was having a bad day, he had just happened to bump into an old lady who was buying jewels. She yelled at him for a few minutes, he had been getting that a lot. Ky quickly apologized, and kept walking. He spotted a group of kids, a young girl, and two other kids about his age. "Hey!" He yelled, and started walking to them.

Cassandra was quite surprised at the girls tone of voice, so calm and stern. " The jewels? " She snorted, and brushed a lock of blue hair behind her ear. " Why would I be so stupid to go near one of them? " Cass muttered. " No, we have not touched any of them. " She answered, resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the silly girl. Didn't she see her snapping at the stupid vendor? Obviously not.

This time it was Tristan's turn to punch her. He did, with a roll of his eyes. " Chillax, Cass. " He said, then turned back to the girl. " No, we haven't dared touch any of them, it would be quite silly to do so, if I say so myself. " Tristan answered. " You haven't touched them, right? " He quickly asked, not willing to go near the girl if she had.



Cassidey spun around at the new guy's voice. She opened her mouth to snap at him, but Tristan's hand slapped into her mouth, and she bit it quickly, watching, satisfied as he quickly yanked it away, and wiped her spit on his pants. " Have you touched the jewels? If you have, don't touch me. " That was the first thing that came out of her mouth. She winced, knowing she probably sounded rude. " Sorry, just have to make sure. " She added.


Tristan glared at Cassidey, wiping his hands on his pants. " Cass! " He scolded angrily. " Don't be so rude. " Shoving her back, he gave an apologetic look to the stranger. " Sorry about that, she can be quite rude at times. " He muttered. " But, like she said, if you have touched the jewels, please don't come near us. "

Ky was surprised by the girls question. "Wha...what? What jewels?" He looked at each of them. "I...have no clue what you guys are talking about." Ky sighed, why did he always miss out on things like this? " I was just a little lost...in this market...just wondering if anyone knew how to get out of here?" Ky asked sheepishly, scratching his neck. He couldn't stop staring at the girls' hair. "Why is your hair blue?" He suddenly asked, then quickly realized his mistake. " it's a very pretty blue...like...like...m-my socks."

Cassandra stared at the boy. " Oh, come on. Please tell me that you've heard of the gems. " She said, snorting. " You know, over there. Those people selling those glowing things, that people are attracted to. Those jewels. " Cassidey answered. " Well, since you don't know what they are, I'm assuming you don't know what they are. As for getting out... it's like an endless market here. They'll always be selling those darned jewels. " She glared at the boy in answer to his question. " It's blue. Because... just because. " Cassandra muttered, glancing self consciously at her hair. She quickly calmed down, though. " Your socks? " Glancing down, she discovered that his socks were indeed the same bright shade of blue. " Oh. Thanks. "




Tristan groaned to himself. Oh, Cass wouldn't be very happy with the boy's question. No, not at all. He wouldn't be surprised if she had punched him. He was quite surprised though, when Cassandra only glared at him, instead of getting into a fight. Maybe she was trying to be nice to make up for her rudeness just a moment ago. Shrugging, he stepped forward. " She likes blue. " Tristan blurted out, glancing at Cassandra nervously.

Kat opened her mouth to say no when another one came up to them. Cass asked him if he touched the jewels. The knew boy seemed clueless and lost when they asked him about the jewels. Kat laughed a little, he was sheepish and funny.

"The glowing jewels. The ones the vendors are trying to sell. They've killed almost everyone in the mines including all of my family. Those jewels." She said in a matter-of-fact way.

Lydia sat on a box, inspecting a small jewel with black rubber gloves, the glowing thing shimmering with a crystalized look.
"But what is it that makes it so dangerous?" she mumbled to herself, and then looked around the market just to see the normal vendors trying to sell the jewel in question.

And then she saw four teenagers all talking. Was that supposed to be normal?
She put the glowing jewel in her pocket and walked towards them, keeping the gloves on just in case.

The scientist wore a big smile as she got closer to them.
"Terribly sorry to interrupt your conversation, but do you know what these jewels can do if you even place one finger on it?" she said, her voice getting more and more serious as she got to the end of her sentence; and pulled the glowing crystal out of her pocket.

"Oh." Said Ky feeling stupid. He should have noticed the gems, I mean...they were surrounded by people selling them. "Why...why can't you touch them?" He questioned. Ky was surprised that the girl didn't killing for asking about the hair. "Well, uh, your welcome I guess." He replied, clearly puzzled that she hadn't said anything else. Ky glanced at the boy, "we'll, I guess that's a good thing then." He said cheerfully.

Kat looked at the jewel and took a small step back. "If you place a finger on them, you'll get very sick and die. It killed all the inhabitants of earth, and is slowly killing us off too." She looked down at her feet. It was too many people at one time. They were all strangers and she hadn't talked to anyone since her little sister died.

Cassandra nodded. " What she said. " She muttered, then turned around at the sight of a new person, and quickly stepped away in terror. " No! No, put that jewel away RIGHT NOW. " Cass shrieked, taking a few more steps back. " They killed my family, and Tristan's and this girl's. " She explained, her voice rising to a higher tone than usual. " If you touch it, it'll kill you soon. " Cass trembled, shaking her bright blue hair covered head back and forth. " This, " she said, turning to Ky and pointing at the jewel, " Is a jewel. "


Tristan nodded to the girl, then turned around quickly as Cassandra shrieked. " What? " He asked, surprised, then spotted the scientist holding the gem, wearing what seemed like an evil smile to him. " Drop that gem, right now. " He ordered, fear obvious in his voice. Once Cass mentioned the death of their families, he trembled some more, from sadness, not fear. " It'll kill you, if you touch it. " Tristan muttered, not keeping his eyes off the jewel, and keeping his stance, should the need arise to escape.

Ky's eyes widened "oh, man." He said, "that's crazy." Then suddenly Ky realized something...his parents..maybe they....no, that couldn't happen, he shook the thought away, they had just gone for a trip, they would come back someday, surely. Ky looked at the approaching girl, she looked older than him "we'll, now I do." He answered, still taken back by the power of the jewels.

"That is correct." said Lydia gravely and threw the jewel over her shoulder, smiling when she heard it burst into a millions pieces on the red, sand covered ground.
The people in the market gasped at the destroyed gem.

She turned around and glared daggers at the vendors and buyers, her smile gone and replaced with a disgusted frown.
The scientist turned around and faced the teenagers once again.
"Do you agree that every single jewel should be exactly like that glowing pile of crap on the ground, getting cleaned up and put in the dumpster?" she asked bitterly, taking her rubber gloves off and throwing them on the broken gem.

"Um..sure." Ky gulped. She seemed like the working type, so he figured it was best to agree with whatever the scientist said. Ky felt awkward in this position, he knew nothing about these jewels...but everyone did..."what's the use of having them around?" He asked intently.

Cassandra grinned as she heard the jewel burst into pieces. " Glad you knew that. " She said, extending a hand. " My name is Cassandra, you can call me Cassidey, or Cass, if you'd like. " Cassandra greeted warmly, glancing back at the crowd of people. " And yes, I do in fact agree with you. They're freaking dangerous, people don't understand that, which makes them idiots. " She muttered, her eyes shooting daggers at the crowd that stared, astonished at them.

"You can call me Ky." He said grinning. Suddenly his expression changes. "Well....if they are so dangerous...why do people buy them? The jewels?"

Cassidey groaned. " Cass is fine, Ky. " She said, and turned around to follow after Lydia. " Nice to meet you, Lydia. " Smiling a bit, she continued walking, still glancing at her hair every few seconds, worried that people thought she was some sort of freak with blue hair. It wasn't always that you saw someone with blue hair.

Tristan grinned. " Cass-Cass. " He teased, poking her with a finger. " I like that name, Ky. " Tristan complimented. " I can use it to tease her, now. Isn't that right, *Cass-Cass*? "
