I'm freaking out!!! I just went to take my snake out to clean his cage and everything and he's GONE. I don't know what to do, I checked the place he went last time, but nothing. I don't even know how he got out, there was a brick in the lid(he's gotten out twice before). We have 2 dogs that would maul him on sight, and its freezing out, and he's cold blooded, I just don't know what to do! I've had this snake for years!!

@7731826
Did you clean the cage outside or inside the house?

@glacias
Well, I clean it outside, but I was inside when I took the lid off, and he wasn't in there

Put your dogs up somewhere and run around looking?

@7731826
I'd say start looking for the warmest place near your house, like walls, because when it's so cold outside they would like to have a warm place. You can also create a warm place yourself. If you have a heat mat (probably not, but still), put it outside if necessary, that may attract the snake.

Wait, mistake, don't let the dogs run around freely, take one dog and put him on a leash. Run around with it, perhaps it recognizes the smell of the snake.

Or take a box and cut a hole out from the bottom. Put the box over a dead mouse, of something else you have. So when he crawls in, he can't go out easily. Make sure the hole is big enough, so the scent spreads enough.

@oli
I put my dogs in another room and have looked everywhere. โ˜น๏ธ

@glacias
Thank you so much! I immediately closed the door for the room he's in, put down the heat mat(lol yea we have one), and checked all the warmest places in the room(like behind the washer and dryer, in the corners, by the geckos heater. Sadly, nothing. But I'll keep checking continuously in those areas. I'm going to try the box thing next, because he is a *very* picky eater. As for the dog thing, my dogs are terrible trackers, lol. I've tried teaching them with treats or toys, but they're clueless.

You could make loud noises and bang around, that might scare the snake out...

@7731826
Perhaps you could put down the temperature of the room itself by opening a window, so that the effect of the heat mat would double. But don't open it too much, or it will slither out. So the room itself is chilly, and the heat mat is attractively warm. Maybe then he would decide to slither to the mat.

@frogtoad
Well, I don't want to scare him into a place we won't be able to get him, but thanks

@Chapus2009
Sadly not โ˜น๏ธ

@lightnigember
Lol, hopefully. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š

@glacias
That a really good idea, thanks! The only problem though is I don't want to turn it that low, because there are other reptiles in the room that have to be kept in a warm temperature, but I could move them for the time being.

@rileytibbles_side
He's an Albino Checkered Garter(pink with yellow checkers), and he's about an inch thick, and 3ft. Long. Not that big, but big enough to easily see and recognize.

LOOK EVERYWHERE! Yeah, ppl already said this... But even in places where you would never even think, Snakes can fit ANYWHERE, and keep the dogs out, maybe try putting one of those feeder rats in the middle of the floor, if he/she is that hungry, it will definitely come out to hunt, but it might be a while, because Im sure Snakes can survive months without food

@7731826
Check the other rooms too, if by chance it slithered to another room while you weren't looking.
I'd say, double check, triple check and so on. It could move to place you've already checked, so it's better to do extra effort than missing your snake for so long ๐Ÿ˜Š

And animals won't be too picky if they are hungry, I know because of my cat. (He !hates! dry food, but when he gets really hungry, he'd even eat that ๐Ÿ˜‹) But perhaps snakes are a little bit more persistent

@7731826
I've read about someone who had the same problem. He put long pieces of double-sided tape on the floor, and when the snake passed, you could see the trails on the tape. But because you have a little snake, I think it would just stick onto the tape. I don't know if that would hurt him. Maybe instead of using tape, you could place a line of sand on the floor, and when he passes, you can see the sand has moved and the direction your snake was going. But that would make a mess in your house.
