Oh no.... But is your personality based off your past history if you cannot remember it? I believe that people may have a sort of default setting which is altered by their experiences as they progress through life. So according to my theory, an amnesic person may be reset, and not retain their personality based off memories they no longer have.
I mean, there's instinct and conscious decisions... For the majority of the time, people act on the later, unless perhaps they are very impulsive? The instinct is your default and your conscious decisions are based on your experiences.
So basically, I am saying a person without memories may return to their original settings and if they were to recall their past later, they may change drastically in their views because development which would have taken ages is now remembered comparatively suddenly. The effects of this would be very distressing to the character in question, to say the least.
.... I can't stop talking in this long, bemusing and nonsensical manner. I believe this is one of my stranger moods, of which there are quite a few, admittedly.

@asi It's actually been scientificaly proven that people who suffer from amnesia (whether it be anterograde or retrograde amnesia) retain their personality but lose their explicit memory. Explicit memory means the motor skills of a person like riding their bike. And the implicit memory is kept - the personality and identity. 😋

@skylark That's why. xD The History explains the Personality. It is there also for anybody who wants to remember it.

@asi There is, but I listed two of the more common ones. Anterograde and Retrograde amnesia. First one erases all of your memories at once and the second affects only your recent ones and travels backwards. You're talking about the more severe amnesias. The one that erases everything up to the personality. Different amnesias affect different parts of the mind. 😋 It's only natural that the scientists erase only their memories, not the personalities. Otherwise they turn like the Dr's minions.

Idk I added history by instinct. It's pretty optional though. It's always been xD
