It is pretty rare that an artist makes their presence known on EggCave, unless word has gotten out that they are one of them.
However, I agree with everything you've said here thus far.
I appreciate that struggle you went through to get these cave creatures done for us, and everyone on this site should appreciate that, not just some.

@pirran it's an apology you deserve, from me & a lot of other. Users are def not used to the artists reading the comments haha. You should def look at some of the creature suggestions for the next creatures you make if you're feeling a little stuck thinking of new ideas. Some of the users have really really good ideas for new creatures, but we haven't had any creature suggestions made in a while.

@pirran

Wow, just logged on and read those comments. I am sorry and I am sure many users here just want to appologize on behalf of EggCave. Normally, people just are not like that....they may be taking their anger out and it just happened to be your designs.

Nothing personal but I just don't like bugs but I think yours are amazing. Now I will say that the one could have used a little more color or light shadowing but knowing your time limit it is amazing for what it is and you should never be ashamed of it.

I plan on getting both critters for my cave and keeping them forever!

@pirran On one hand, given that the CS eggs are sold, some hard knocks are to be expected. People can get touchy when real world money is involved.

On the other hand, I agree that some of the comments posted are more petulant than constructive. I suspect it isn't just anger at the artwork that motivates their temper tantrum.

Some of these comments feel more like bruised egos of people who believe that Ian is supposed to use their ideas for EC because they spent hours into those ideas. The fact that their ideas may be derivative, inappropriate, or just unsuitable for the moment never seem to occur to them at all.

If I were Ian, I'd have made art submission private, ie through a contact form. Having it as it is only breeds trouble as accusations of ignoring their fabulous ideas or copying those ideas without giving credit (whether or not it is deserved) would arise inevitably.

@angelwolfeh
@glados

Thank you, all three, for the comments 😊 I really do appreciate them.

@mrsgiggles

Private submission sounds like a good idea at first, but rude insults shouldn't be tossed around whether you know who the artist is or not. It's simple civility. I did notice, however, that people did seem to expect their design to be used. I think a few people need to go and look up the definition of a 'suggestion' 😋.

@pirran

Hmm... I know this might only apply to this month's cave critters, but I was thinking back to how you told me the Pogknot was a firefly and not a wasp. XP Maybe next time you could do brighter colors for glowing things (maybe add rings of color around it too like aura) - would be really cool. 😸 And maybe give the bubbles a soapy look? >^.^<

But anyhow, are you using a tablet to draw these?

@wallie987
I suggested to think of him as a cricket with a glowing butt if you don't like wasps, hahaha.

Yes, I use a tiny little Bamboo Fun tablet.

@pirran As an artist who puts up your work for display and, in this case, sale, you should expect a few insults now and then. It's just the way things are, so chins up and take everything in stride.

The best way to prove them wrong is to have a good and long career at the end of the day 😊

@pirran
XP Then next time, you sould do a firefly! I haven't seen too many around! Also, If you want to make the eggs more "shiny" I think you just go over them with an extra "low opacity" white layer on non-shaded parts and then add a thin white streak at the top. I'm not too sure about this, but it seems like at least a few of the shiny eggs are made like this. 😸

@mrsgiggles
I've worked for pet sites for seven years, and this is the most insulting user base I've come across in that entire time. Yes, I do get them occasionally, but they do tend to come with constructive feedback and as often as I hold my "chin up and take everything in stride", people don't seem to realise I'm not an emotionless robot. Those comments still hurt.

@wallie987
We'll see if there's still a 'next time' for this site, but thank you for your suggestion 😊

Aww, you wont be drawing for EC anymore? Wish you could sprite for... meh, let's not get carried into that but, it's a real pity because they actually look quite nice. 😸

Yeah, I have to admit - EC is probably the most extreme site I've ever been on - regarding almost everything. xP

@pirran There seems to be far more teens and young kids than adults here, which may be a reason.

I understand if you wish to brush us off - I don't blame you, as some of the comments *are* unnecessarily brutal, but I personally don't think the community is here is that extreme. We have nice people here too!

I can think of at least two long-time successful pet sites where the people there are just too much for me. They make EC look like an UN peace conference.

@pirran

I honestly don't know why people are getting so wound up about "shine" and whatnot. The creatures look great how they are and eggs aren't always shiny (especially not in real life). It takes a lot of work to draw anything (especially if you use a computer program) and courage to actually submit it. Regardless, people are always quick to judge and criticize and I can only imagine how terrible it feels to have someone 'criticize' (and I use that word lightly) so quickly.

I think you did a great job and people who disagree should keep their comments to themselves. (Sadly though this is not always the case).

😊

@pirran

It really is a shame how people have decided to react. I mean, if someone doesn't like it they are not at all obligated to buy/collect the creatures.

And it seems like people forget that art can be updated! Doesn't anyone remember the Rosse?

I really appreciate that, I do 😊 The compliments and support do soften the blow of the harsh insults.

To solaris, I mentioned earlier in the thread that I've been talking to Ian. I know I can't please everyone, but as some people have expressed their interest at waiting a day or two to have nice work, rather than rushed stuff on time, something new may be coming 😊

Since the rosse was also updated, do you think you'll go back and tweak the critters? They could look really nice - afterall, the ideas are very interesting. 😊

@mrsgiggles

I thought the same thing at first (regarding the younger age demographic here), but then I remembered other sites where everyone is 13 or above, and to be honest, they can be just brutal--and they get to cuss.

How edgy is that?

And as far as being extreme goes, I kinda have to admit that the people on this site have the tendency to exaggerate BIG TIME.

"oh no you can't re-release tines/foos/onnies because then their rarities will be reduced to that of yeeps, which is the WORST THING EVER."

Yeah. Unfortunately there will always be those bitter people that like to rain on everyone's parade. But, who knows? Maybe if there is a redraw, they'll feel bad that they acted so immaturely, and will think twice about saying such things in the future!

Wait and see!

@solaris
If there is a re-draw, I'll be doing it for Ian, who was the kindest person to work for. If there is a re-draw, it will be for those users who supported me and weren't insulting. I will comfortably ignore those who complained that their suggestions weren't used, and I won't care if the insulting users still don't like the newer versions.

I guess different sites have their different goods and bads. 😸 But I think it's because EC has had at ton of REALLY gorgeous creatures which kind of spoil everyone. But then, these creatures aren't too easy to come by.

Wow, I've never really thought about the artist who created this and how rushed they were into pouring out all their efforts and form new creatures for us to look at.
I guess I was too heartless.

To be completely honest, I don't like any of these 4 new creatures, but I guess I'm just too difficult, and mean D:
Your artworks (the link on your status) are stunning, and they definitely could become creatures for Egg Cave anytime.

I have to say that I was pretty rude walking around feeling dissatisfied of the artworks and stuffs, I apologize!
To understand this whole process you're going through is a lesson for me, I'm just hoping that you won't take these mean words that people (myself included) blurred out accidentally because they didn't enjoy what they looked at after much expectations.
^^ I confessed everything...
So I hope you're having a nice day, I apologize once again for being so presumptuous, cheer yourself up and good luck with everything =D

@sony
I appreciate the apology, I do, and I accept it. I have noticed that many users don't seem to think about the artist behind the art, or the feelings of those involved.

Try to think of being at an art gallery, with a hundred or more people there, along with the artist. You clearly wouldn't stand there and shout "This SUCKS. It looks like it was done by a 12 year old!". There are filters for that brain-mouth thing, you feel shame and embarrassment, there's a reason you don't say everything you feel.

Just because you're online doesn't make it any different. The person behind the screen is still hurt, and the person saying such hurtful things still comes off as several degrading terms I won't state on such a family friendly site.

If you write a message online, read it back to yourself. If you feel you'd be hurt or insulted by such a message, don't post it! It's that easy! If you want to offer critique, you don't have to insult the art along the way. Opinions are opinions, but to insult the artist is taking it beyond a free little clickable image and into the realms of personal feelings.

I feel so bad about myself now xD
You're very deep I must say *_*

I bet some of the comments about the new creatures weren't technically purposely done, they just didn't think like the way that you thought (post a message after consider that it wouldn't harm anyone's feelings).

Yeah, what you've said was completely inarguable, I once again, apologize for everything, I know my mistakes.

@pirran I think you do expect too much from the most people here. Online it's not "normal" to first read back an then post what wou wrote. But I do understand that it must be very depressing to read the result of this. And I fully agree with you that it would be so easy. Maybe your topic here helps to make some people think before posting.

I myself think the Feggle is kind of cute, but I don't like the Pogknot. The egg reminds me of an acorn, so the worm that it's becoming in first evolution is a bit confusing.
And I think your art style fits this page just perfect. Please, give it another month.

I apologize if my English is hard to understand, I haven't used it for some years now...

Edit: I just fell in love with picture 7/9 in the sketches section of your portfolio. It's amazing. You surely can be proud...I can't do anything with art in general.
