Inappropriate and annoying advertisements

Starting on August 15, advertisements that are inappropriate have been popping up on my screen without my clicking anything. When I click the "back" button at the top of my screen all that happens is I am shown more inappropriate pictures. This has happened three times since then, but that isn't all that's happened. Since then, advertisements have been appearing at the bottom of my screen that weren't there before, and they follow me as I scroll up and down the screen. Most of them give me the option to remove them, but every time I refresh they reappear. Some of them don't give me the option to remove them at all, but that's only happened today so far. However, they don't appear on every page, and it's only happened on my iPad. I don't know if it has to do with something I clicked--I don't know what, though; I always try to be careful of what I view--or if this is happening to everybody, but I would really like for this to stop. Help?

@whitefire
Can you download Adblock to your iPad or would it not work?

@whitefire

The same has been happening for me. Whenever I go on my cousin's nexus and on Eggcave, it would always redirect me from browsing threads and into this... highly explicit site for mobiles. I haven't gotten anything else besides that and the occasional advertisements on the side bars though.

@Safikei
Adblock? Explain.

@Hayz
Hmm... Maybe it's a virus for mobile devices? Or perhaps somebody messed with the coding and inserted that URL somewhere...

Adblock is an app, which disables all the advertisements from the web, no matter which site you're on. You can install Adblock to Mozilla Firefox and Chrome so I was thinking if it could also work on Safari. They all have their own Adblocks so.. maybe it could work? At least it wouldn't hurt to try. 😊

@Safikei
Okay, I'll go look for it on the App Store! Wait, does it cost anything?

@whitefire
It's free for both Firefox and Chrome so I assume it would be free on Safari as well if it had its own version of it.

@Safikei Adblock? Hmm. I was required to download Chrome for my social studies class, so I'll try installing Adblock.

I've been having the same issue with ads. Sometimes, when I click a new page on EggCave, I get a pop-up ad and it makes me wait a few seconds before I can skip it, and THEN it redirects me to the page I was originally looking for. It's driving me crazy!

@whitefire -

I haven't really gotten any highly inappropriate advertisements (I use my laptop), but the most I will get is like ads for video games and stuff that are "for men only". They show pictures of women that don't show anything, but are still highly revealing nonetheless.

I've also have an issue where sometimes when I click to got to a new page an ad will pop up (that takes up the entire screen) about sticky notes or something, like home depot or something. It pops up and gives me 15 seconds to skip the ad, but it's really annoying to deal with that all the time.

I don't know if this is an issue for anyone else, or if it's even related to the advertisement issue your having, but it's really annoying. I even have a pop-up blocker on my computer. Maybe it needs an update or something...idk.

I hope this gets resolved or something, or at least someone figures out a solution. Good luck!

Ian supports the first one, I believe; he has been allowing that ad for quite some time. However, you may want to report it because I may be wrong. Well, I probably am. 😋

@Safikei
It says I must be 17 or older to download it.

@whitefire
Oh no. D: Could your parents download it if you told them the situation?

@whitefire You know.. Something similar happens when I'm at my desktop. I click forums and then a new tap shows up about buying computers.

Pinging both of your accounts just in case you switch in the middle of my typing ^^
Really? A Mac is an Apple, right? Maybe it has something to do with that.

@whitefire

- The advertisements are here to produce revenue, the clicks and views the advertisements receive throughout the day ends with a result of money, Ian may need this for various things, including probably keeping the site up and running. If you witness any inappropriate ads, you can always get them blocked by submitting a ticket, including the direct link of the ad. I'm sure Adsense wouldn't display anything that can harm your computer in any type of way.

Being on Eggcave via mobile can be a little risky also.

@whitefire This has happened to me as well, but on other sites as well, and I dunno why.

The only solution to this problem is to close the window and open it again, they should be gone.

I dunno if something can be done to keep it off from Eggcave, which I would appreciate, because the advertisements I've been getting that match your description are things like: "Find a girlfriend nearby." or other stuff like that... but it's the scrolling up ads have never happened to me.

If you find inappropriate ads on Egg Cave, please send in a ticket including the destination URL. This way Ian can block that ad from displaying. Sometimes things slip through the filters and the only way Ian can stop them is if you tell us via ticket.

Closing this since it isn't a bug.
