What is the fun in CRW?

in General

How do you feel about seeing the hatched forms of CRW creatures right off the bat? (Multiple answers allowed.)

I hate to sound rude, actually no, I don't (because I don't think I am being rude). Oh first, hello! I am balletninja, longtime player and now lurker but I have a question.

Why are we able to see what the CRW creatures look like after hatching right off the bat? What is the fun in that?

I don't see the point in just handing over the evolutions. I mean, the only answer I can figure out would be that "We disliked the competition associated with hatching first" but that is pretty weak. There are all kinds of competitions on this site and the CRW hatching contest was more of a user made competition out of curiosity.

I just thought that was one of the best features of the CRW (and it stimulated trade) so I am kinda sad to see the way things are running.

I guess if I don't like it I can just keep lurking like I currently am. Still, I thought it was worth it to try to ask how people feel about this. It doesn't hurt to stir the pot once and a while you know?

@balletninja Yeah, I enjoyed CRW when we had to actually work to get the eggs to hatch to see what they would be. I dunno, it just doesn't make it seem as fun when they already tell you what it's going to be. It was always exciting to find out who hatched theirs first and what it was. Now it's just.. bleh ._.

@balletninja

There was indeed some challenge in hatching the creatures to see what they looked like, and the first hatched version would probably get way more than its worth in the TC.

But the main aspect seems to be getting the creature from the cave, and seeing how lucky you get.

Now, its easier to see exactly what creature you like right from the start 😊

I'll agree! <== (WARNING; Complaining oldie preparing to rant.)

Even though I was by far not the fastest to get my CRW eggs hatched, and there was some real tough competition, who cares!? It's not a reason to spoil the surprise!

I loved looking at the egg and trying to figure out what the creature would be. The discussion about it all! There was a lot of mystery and stuff, and a race to get them all hatched and grown. I got disappointed a few times, but I'd still rather have it the way it was before.

As Whispers commented, "now it's just.. bleh ._." Is a excellent way to summarize my opinion on this year's CRW.

No suspense. No surprise. No discussion. No competition. No fun. Typical LEs.

Not something I'll quit EC over, but definitely disappointing. Not that I don't like the CRW creatures. No, I love them. But the way they were introduced is just... wrong.

Sorry if this is too ranty, just stating my opinion.

@whispers @liza200aa I don't really play anymore but I agree with both of you. It just added that extra level of interest.

@despair But if being lucky is the main aspect then what is the point of cash shop creatures? You get to see what you are buying into with the cash shop, I believe the cave adds an element of surprise.

@liza200aa and @whispers

I admit, I agree with you. I like some mystery, and it's nice to see what happens rather than getting all the information on a platter from the start.

@balletninja I can see the pros and cons of that. It would be exciting to figure out what a creature would be upon hatching, and I'd love the sense of mystery, but for those members who do a lot of freezes in their cove, it might not be such a nice idea. Since then they would not know what it looked like & might be disappointed if a later stage was one that they didn't like, but I guess they could always get another one then.

Anyway, just my thoughts on it. 😸 I honestly prefer knowing what they look like before I decide to own one x3

@aedia Exactly, they could get another. I would be peeved if I didn't know what my Cash Shop creature looked like and couldn't freeze it in my favorite stage. It seems rude to make people but another, but luckily we don't have that problem.

There is no risk in CRW evolution. You can trade for another without having to pay, or even give it another go at finding one. It just adds a fun element and sitmulates trade. If you don't like it, trade it for something you do like.

@balletninja - I agree with you! I'm an oldie too, and I miss the mystery behind what the hatched stages of new eggs looked like, especially for CRW. I really do like the CRW creatures this year, but I am disappointed by the fact that we are getting to see all the stages beforehand. :/

@Balletninja I'm and Oldie as well ^^^^ I loved how it never showed you when it evolved or how much time it took to hatch because everyone would try and find out until there is a topic showing it and that's the fun! It's disappointing this year a bit compared to all the other years here at EC

@plushie @thursdays_dove Oh my goodness, people I actually know on eggcave! Wow, I thought we were a dying breed. I still agree with you guys. I am actually sad that more people don't care. I just don't see the point in knowing beforehand?

@balletninja Honestly, I don't like dealing with creatures if I don't know what they're going to look like. I probably wouldn't have been excited as I was if they didn't show us what the creature looked like. That's just my opinion though.

@skittlejg What do you mean you don't like to "deal" with them? Isn't that what trading/adoption is for?

@balletninja I just meant that I'm not interested in them. I don't feel the need to add them to my cove.

@skittlejg Same with most users. Being unenthused makes you want to trade them, yes? It is a gamble that you take and in my opinion, it made this game interesting.

@balletninja

I'm not downing your idea or anything, in fact if they changed it back to that I really wouldn't mind all that much, but I just wanted to comment and say I like it like this because I already know if I like the creature or not, and since you aren't guaranteed to get all of them since they are found in the cave, you don't have to bend over backwards to try and trade for a creature that you don't know if you will like or not. That's why I like it, but like I said, if they brought back the element of surprise, I wouldn't complain about that either, I would just hope that I like all the creatures 😋

I've only been around since August so I wasn't here when it was like that, I'm sure it was just as fun though ^^

@balletninja Hm, I can agree, ans this year they released 'sneak peeks' so that adds to the suspense! It didn't really bother me at first, but by thinking about it since it's now brought up, I think it would have been fun to have a surprise like last year. But for this year, many of the eggs already give it away, such as the Zebbit and Tawny, so a part would have been figured out.

But the CRW is over and we can't go on complaining, the team must have worked hard to do the CRW, as it is an event to prepare for. I would have wished they kept it a surprise, but nothing's perfect, so we just have to accept it. c: Although I'm still agreeing with you but we shouldn't gloom about this too much, because we don't want to ruin the fun too much.

But then again, people would have complained that the creatures weren't revealed right away.

Personally, I like being able to see the creatures.

When you mention how people PAY to freeze creatures, then you really shouldn't say, "You don't like the stage you froze it at? Too bad, get another creature." It's hard for some people to find CRW eggs in the cave--I got 2 at most in my 20 tries in 1 day. To Ian, those Egg Cavers are extremely important and if they feel like they're wasting money than that's bad news for him. Why do you think he lets them in on Betas first?

Showing off the evolutions makes everything easier--especially since there are more new users coming along than in the past. They might not want to wait to see the evolutions. It has to show how creative this website is to bring in users. Ian has to cater to the masses, and not just older users who liked competing.

If it was me, I would have shown all except the last one or show only one of the evolutions for all of them
It would have been a mix but I'm fine with it no matter what happens, as long as the creatures come out I'm good
@balletninja

If it's really such a fuss, well, now they know and may change something for next time
