The Old EC :3

Anyone remember the old EC of 2009/10? You know, when it was all green, the blog was our version of the forums, we had no 'Next/Previous Creature', when there was less creatures in the Cave, etc. Remember the good ol' days? This is the place to talk about those days. ^-^
If this already exists, please tell me. 😊

Yeah, I kinda miss the old days. ^^
But I remember how it was sort of a pain to go back to the person's profile just to feed the next creature instead of having a 'next' button. x3

@froggytails - Yes, that was such a pain. xD I'm was glad when they added that in. I do miss the old days, though. The skin was darker, so it didn't hurt my eyes so much.

Yeah, I loved the old skin, and I loved how the profiles used to look like back then..
And to be honest I kind of liked not having CC 'cause my parents get really mad at me when I ask if I can buy it with real money... ^^'
(I'm not saying I don't like CC, I'm just saying that I wish there was a way to get CC critters by working really hard another way then to just press a button to use real money, if you know what I mean..)

I think CC is kind of annoying. I currently have a user pestering me for CSPs, and I don't enjoy the fact that the easiest way for me to get freezes is to buy them myself.

I really do miss the old small community. It wasn't about trade back then. I remember a certain really kind user handing out Onnies for free and holding a contest for free Macbots & Doovoos. ❤️ I had a really good friend back then & we gifted each other probably the most sought after creatures today. Plus, I swear every comment I got back then about feeding were like "Fed your lovelies a little light snack *insert all kinds of smiley faces*" and I have to admit I miss them just a lil.

But modern EC is more fun than old EC, I guess. A lot more things to keep your interest.

The one thing I don't miss is the creatures would die easily if you weren't on or people didn't feed. XD

@despair - Yeah, it was so small back then. There's so much people on EC nowadays. ._.
@trish - Yeah, I admit that there are some users back then that I really miss. @Joy would be the only one that would feed my entire cove, and she was really friendly. There were others, too, that had friendly chats. Now, I get a few chats, loads of feeds that I find hard to return, and loads of people pestering me for my Tine and Bunthoff. >_<
@lynncrow - I remember when I couldn't get on for Christmas '10, and pretty much most of my cove died. People fed, but not enough. I find it hard to believe that my Bunthoff is from '09. xD

@leafpelt - I agree fully. It was easier to talk to someone; you just had to go to their profile or the blog, but it was harder to play; no Next/Previous Creature...

I remember... probably the first new feature I witnessed was being able to see what creature you were up to in a cove

I've only been on EC for a little over a year so I don't know much about the 'old eggcave'. But if I remember correctly, the 2012 CRW gave each user 1 of the creatures every day as they were released and then the users had the chance to get more out of the cave so every user was guaranteed to have at least 1 of each creature. I wish they would bring that back because it was ridiculously frustrating this year to never get an Eereek or a Tawny from the cave, even with the extra tries. (then again, i may be misremembering things XD)

I like eggcave as it is now and I honestly want to see it grow. It's more fun with a lot of users to talk to and trade with and compete together. And I can't wait to have more artists running around making many different kinds of creatures. Also, more site events!

I think it'd be terrible to not see what creature you were grabbing from the cave, btw. And it's also nice to see their gender now.

I agree, you knew almost everyone back then and they knew you and when you made a trade you didn't feel like you were being railroaded, you felt like it was a fair trade. Not like now. I like the new creatures, but I don't like how many think they know what creatures are worth, that drives me nuts, then they want twice as many creatures for one of theirs. I don't think so. Yeah but in the end you could buy a Tawny from the Cash Shop if you could. I agree there needs to be another way to earn CC, some people just can't afford to get it. I use to do a lot of favors for people by freezing their creatures but that got expensive, don't do that anymore. I miss the old EC but some good has come with progress but some hasn't.

I saw some blog posts complaining about overpriced Tawnys. People were wanting millions of EC, and thousands of CC, for them. Jeez...

Because of the smaller community, you got to know one another better, and even start friendly chats with everyone on the blog. Remember when blogs easily reached 1000+ comments, with most of them not even being related to the blog post itself? Yep, good times... xD

I agree, there needs to be another way of getting CC. I'm unable to have CC, all because it costs real money. I really don't expect my family to actually give me money for this site. We have other things to worry about right now.

My most fond memory is when the Nym was released ❤️ Everyone was running around trying to get them xD I have memories before that, but the Nym was the best. I remember trading a last stage berr for three nym eggs...haha

Speaking of which, I recently came across screenshot of old EC. I wish I could see more, I'm getting pretty sick of this white/gray layout. It felt like the dark green provided a more mysterious and tropical theme. Oh, and I loved the way old creature profiles looked.
I came to EC in 2010. Not as early as some others, though enough to say that I've seen a lot of things happen.

Probably the thing I remember the most is when I was going through the cave. A drakomo came up, but I was just like "Meh, that's a common".
...And then they got endangered the next day. D:

@sparklefox I came around at the beginning of the end of the old Egg Cave. I know a little bit about the comfort of being able to talk to the community on the blogs, that's where everyone hung out and everyone was so friendly! I got to know many people in a short time back then, though it didn't really last when the new layout came along. I remember there were some nice users that gave me amazing creatures even though I was new. I also regret not keeping all of the Aerlo that I found before they were endangered. I'm lucky though, my first creature ever is still with me and I have four other Aerlo in my little Aerlo family as well. ^-^

Though, maybe because I didn't know it as well as you guys, or maybe because I just didn't like the feel as much, I don't really miss the old layout. I think this one is very bright and cheery.

The site simply isn't old enough to have these "Remember when..." nostalgic discussions 😋

Not much has changed, other than the forums really. Of course they'd need to add new creatures, otherwise it would become utterly boring.

I just don't feel it's come to a point where we can rightfully say "Old" and "New". I joined around the time it became a year old, though I was well aware of it before. Just not enough has changed to merit "old" quite yet, just "different".

I try not to deal with too much now, it's too much of a hassle, too much with all the newbies thinking they know everything and wanting too much, when way back when we were all pretty much friendly and knew each other and could deal with each other, I knew almost everyone on here and they knew me @spirit, they knew I was a decent person and helped them out as best I could, and we knew how to trade, now it's like a battleground egads. They want an arm and a leg and when you try to explain it to them that it's not worth what they think it is, they practically bite your head off. Not worth it. Oh well. I had so many good friends on here, I have a few left and I hold them dear, but don't know the new ones.
