Blast from the past, why be so hard on me?

I haven't made an actual topic in a while.
Most likely because when I used to make topics, they either were ignored or negatively swarmed. On that note;

Anyone else who really despises going through old forum topics and\or posts? That includes old roleplay too, yes.

It irks me to the heavens and back to see what I said to some people or what forum wildfires I had started. Although I do suppose it alternately serves as an ode to my strengthening maturity\vocabulary. I enjoy seeing my personal progress, but I can't help but cringe at the lesser stages of my life.

It helps me ground my development throughout my person on the web, which I take pleasure in tracking. But every "XD" I dared type will haunt me for years to come, I'm sure. I also keep in mind that I was quite young to be on this type of community website, and I am still quite young to be participating in it. So, I suppose, for an otaku dweeb who discovered things a little too early at the time, I did fine.

Again. It's still hard to glaze over who I once was.
It's very strange to know that you've grown at first, but I've come to find solace in that understanding that I can carry a conversation and no longer sound as if I'm not familiar with an apostrophe and its use. Haha.

So, what about any of you? Got the flashback blues?

@glazzie
I write "XD" so often that in 5 years i'll probably just make new accounts of everything and pretend to be another person.
*imagines it*
But then it does express emotion in my writing...

@Mastergemma -

I really outdid myself with the "XD" thing.

I'm trying to learn to express feeling\emotions in writing without even the occasional emote. Or, a lot of the time, I don't put too much expression in my dialogue. Still.

@glazzie
I should try doing that a bit more
I need to stop degrading my English for pitiful emotes for an easier way of expressing emotion
And according to my friends everything I type sounds sarcastic which irks me

@Mastergemma -

I get that sometimes, too.
It's like, no. I'm not trying to sound sarcastic.

Bluh.

I feel your pain.
I sometimes look back on my posts at @pinkred and look at how immature I was. I wasn't a very good roleplayer. I still do sometimes put in a emote when I feel like it.

@glazzie

I was such a kissup... and a weirdo. I still AM a weirdo so that definitely hasn't changed but the amount of times I had excused myself in the past for being an idiot with the explanation that 'I'm new' (even after a year of playing) kills me spiritually xD

I'm still the annoying emoticon kid and forever will be unable to not add in smileys in everything I write.

By the way, this is Jupiter_Hollow. Yer old frand. c: Hai.

@Lucid

It's mostly the roleplays that get to me.
It's been a mere few months since I've last roleplayed here, and I'm feeling the wrath of it already.

@Aizel

I'm trying to lessen my use of smileys.
Although it may make my dialogue and ramblings sound dull and monotonous at many times, limiting the use of the emoticons, I think, will benefit my plans to strengthen my way of expressing emotion through words.

Hi there. I remember, it hasn't been too long, has it?
I always thought you were a splendid roleplayer, as well as a very good conversation partner. The "annoying emoticon kid" may just be a cool person to chat with.

@glazzie

You can do both you know. You can't express anything properly without the use of your expression and that is law. For me at least. I'm all about facial weirdness irl. xD If you're aiming to improve your roleplaying then why not try to strengthen your description of expressions instead? =3 Otherwise in chat it's alright to use emoticons. Compensates for the faces we never show. ^v^

I'm rusty myself though, haven't roleplayed in a month or so... Not in big paragraphs at least. I hope I still got it xD

I have never grown out of my xD's, nor am I ashamed of it really. I can relate to you wanting to be more articulate but personally I don't think there is anything wrong with emoticons. ^^

I do agree that it is embarrassing to go through past posts/comments etc but it always serves as a reminder of our growth and maturity. ESPECIALLY if you feel embarrassment at your words. We were all young immature kids once weren't we?

@glazzie
I get what you mean, I read previous posts from 2011 (on another account) and feel like saying sorry a thousand times to everyone else for sounding so whiny or just plain irritating. Then I look at all the grammar/spelling mistakes I made and feel like hitting my past self for making me look and feel stupid in the present.

I can't say I've totally outgrown 'XD' but I don't abuse it in public like I used to. Chats with my close friends are another matter entirely, though.

@Aizel

That's what I'm building on strengthening, currently. It isn't as if I absolutely never use emoticons, because I do, frequently. I've been limiting them, however, which started some time ago.

I think it's just because I'm haunted by the fact that I once used an emoticon after each sentence.

@Stellalunagirl

Nope, there's nothing wrong with smileys\emoticons. Many people use them, including me, and hey, yo, they're useful, what else is there to be said? I'm reducing my 'XD' count along with my other smileys\emoticons and such because I am fighting back my ridiculous use of them some time ago.

One, two, three 'XD's are all right for me. Not twenty-three.

@Whereiscupcake

Mhm!

I don't use 'XD' specifically in closer chats, but often "(;" or "):" will pop up when I have no words but I want to express an emotion. It's hard to find somebody who hasn't ever used one in their life, or someone who refuses to use them.

--

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing /against/ smiley faces, nor do I think different of a person for using them. I'm cutting back on my personal use, though, because reading through old PMs or OOC conversation, I am finding way too many 'XD's. I hope nobody took that note to personal offense.

@glazzie I'm sorry if I ignored your topics!

Well, I don't roleplay, but I did get in trouble for 'spamming' once, and I wish I could go back and change that.

@Awkolicious

Judging by the date you joined, you probably weren't around to see most of them anyway, haha. These topics I'm talking about date back to 2010-2012, when I was on my old account @akarikitty as well as on here. I left for a good portion of 2013-2014, so I haven't made many topics recently at all.

I feel your pain. I too made many errors on this site, but they were forgiven and hopefully forgotten. I still feel the pressing dread, though.

@glazzie that's great to know. Yeah, I joined early but I feel bad when I break the rules, I like to be a goodie two shoes 😋
