"Topic deviations aside" Dima stated quietly but eerily, cutting off whatever chatter his performance had caused. "Now, your names." he demanded, leaving no room for argument. "Your /birth/ names. You may be allowed to change to other names, but those, you have to earn."

He straightened himself then, acquiring an authoritive expression resembling that of the blonde man the initiates had met on the roof. Unlike Law, however, Dima wasn't sunshine-blond and baby-blue eyed - he had oil slick curls and an ice blue deadglower that enhanced his uncanny countenance tenfold.
"You're no different than you were before, make no mistake. No new name is going to make you into a physically fit, properly trained Dauntless member so I'm going to strip you of your 'titles' as well, until you've lived up to the faction standard. To each other you may be whatever you like; to me you are nothing more than the people you were before - people from Erudite, Candor, Amity and Abnegation. NOT Dauntless. You have yet to prove that you deserve to be here and I suggest you start thinking about what you could do to make yourself useful to the faction."
He scanned the group judgementally before demanding again.
"Names."

@appleblizzard @jupiter_hollow @poe Sorry for short post!

{Jubilee}

"Full names?" I asked quietly, "Or just firsts?" I started thinking about what I could do to be useful, being delightfully sarcastic in my head.

"Firsts" Dima specified. "Your family names don't matter now. Neither do your middles."
He was setting out to do what was necessary now, introducing the group to what was perhaps the most forgiving part of the initiation - introductions and rule-setting. Some seemed to be whining at the unfairness of it already, giving him a good idea of what he had to deal with - he anticipated the physical training, which was the one of the harshest eye-openers. It would be a reality slap more than any of his antics could be.
He sincerely hoped he would get to see off the more annoying brats.
Stepping forward to the first jumper, a particularly feisty girl, he met her childish poutingĀ with his own icy stare and raised an eyebrow in expectation.
"Name."

So guys, basically after the tour, the initiates go back to the room where they sleep, boys and girls, and change into their new dauntless uniform. After that, they burn their old faction uniform and head to the dining hall for dinner. The dauntless leadership kind of does an introduction, and then dinner is over. Then, the dauntless members lift up the initiates and they go crowd surfing!! 😃

{Jubilee}

I watched as Dima stepped towards Scilent. I would've said something to get him to back off, but I didn't want to risk getting punched. "Jubilee." I said, staring at him, hoping he would back off of Scilent a little bit.

@dramatic @appleblizzard @poe Don't hurry up with the tour though .(I know you and apple like to rush things) Dima handles the tour and he's occupied with your girls. And the introductions are obviously gonna take a while, considering your characters are keen on... interrupting XD
-

Dima's head snapped towards the source of unnecessary noise to find the same initiate answering his question unbidden. His face split into a confused frown, expression conveying his angry bafflement. He hadn't been expecting this, he hadn't been prepared for this. Yes, he'd assumed rightfully that he would have to go verbally go through a bunch of loudmouths and prideful incompetents, he'd anticipated coming across some rebellious transfers as well - he adored the ones that had enough cheek to stand up to him - but this...

"What the heck is wrong with you?" he asked quietly, all formality forgotten as he stepped aside to face the girl. Instead of anger and condescension, he was painted in outraged confusion. "Did we not go over this? What are you - an idiot? It isn't that hard to follow a clear command, initiate, you're saying your names not your goddamned death wishes." His voice acquired a hard edge in a minimal amount of time as he transitioned out of his state of astonishment at her audacity back to his usual cold expression. He wasn't yelling, still relatively calm instead, but he made a point of making his voice echo from the walls of the room without raising his tone. "Or do you not think she's capable of answering the question on her own?" he inquired quietly. "Trying to defend the poor victim's virtue?"

Dima directed his expression to the entire group, adressing them as a whole now, just knowing that his speech would further prompt the others to speak up as well. Judging by this one, he expected similar crap from the other incompetents. "Can you do this one thing right, without any idiotic feats of impromptu heroism?" he was sure he sounded almost tired. "Because I can assure you, you would be out of Dauntless were you to pull any of that at the leaders. Those unable to hold their tongue and follow simple orders are not appreciated here and are kindly asked to spare me the annoyance of having to deal with them." he said and looked at the problematic girl expectantly.

@jupiter_hollow @poe @appleblizzard I just absolutely looove interrupting. X3

{Jubilee}

I stepped back a little bit. "You asked for names." I said quietly. "I wasn't answering for her. Also, there's nothing wrong with me. I'm not an idiot, and no it's not hard to follow a clear command. I was just simply saying my name to get it over with." I said, trying not to sound too defiant.

Dima heaved a tired sigh.
"Getting it over with happens only when people do not speak over each other. You weren't doing me a favour. Now shut up for once."

{Jubilee}

I nodded at Dima. "Sorry." I said, stepping away to lean against the wall. 'God that was stupid.' I thought to myself. 'You gotta learn to shut up. You're gonna get no where with that stupid Candor mouth of yours.' I thought angrily. I'd be lucky if I got through the first day.

{Scilent}

Jubilee stood up for me. I completely froze when he came up to me demanding my name. I seemed to go blank for a minute untill Jubilee leaned against the wall seeming frustrated with herself.

"I'm...Scilent." I said. I hoped Dima wouldn't think I was making it up as I didn't want to explain how I never knew my real name. Being lost and coming to Eritude, I was always so quiet, Bruce named me Scilent and from that day on it was my name. Even if I did know my name once it was a long time ago.

Having finally seen the girl retreat, Dima turned back to the intended recipient of his question but didn't have to repeat it again as the answer came immediately.
It seemed to be another mockery to his leadership as he'd specified he wanted birth names, intead of alliases, but had no desire to argue further with the clearly idiotic children.
"'m too low-paid for this crap." he sighed, waving her off nonchalantly. "At least make sure you live up to that name."
He directed his expectant gaze at the next initiate, the second jumper, who was directly behind the first. "Name." he ground out.

((Sorry I had a lot of catching up to do. This week I wasn't at my computer much.))

Jackson Quick had remained quiet the entire time. Speaking up would get him no where, so he listened instead. That at least gave him an idea of what he was going to be dealing with. It would be tough. He wasn't strong. Jackson would live up to his name, though. He was most certainly Quick.

"Jackson." He replied plainly. A simple answer. He hoped that wouldn't somehow still earn him an onslaught of verbal abuse.

Ethan sat in the lab, tapping his pencil on the desk as he sifted through the results of the most recent aptitude tests. Two divergents, both from abnegation, though he suspected there were more. Either the test supervisors were disguising their results... a gross perversion of his precious data in his opinion... or the aptitude test was not properly catching divergence. He suspected it to be the former, as the two kids unlucky enough to be caught had a Candor supervisor. On either case, divergents were getting discovered long after their initiation into their factions.

He noted a high tendency towards Dauntless this year... His old faction. He ran his finger over his many earrings, remembering his time there. Those kids didn't know what they were getting into... He doubted half of them would survive past the age of twenty five, with all the unnecessary stunts they pulled... What were the official statistics again? Only sixty nine percent of dauntless lived long enough to eventually get kicked out by their own people when they were too old to be useful. Or was it sixty seven?

He returned to his work. He had to get through this. He was meeting his sister later, and he didn't want to be late.

Autumn sat quietly through the man's story. He was a middle-aged dauntless man who looked like he could pick her up and break her in half. He was complaining that some erudite guy had been extorting money from him and he wanted to go to court, but was told to go through an advisor first... Lucky me.

"Look, I'm going to stop you right there..." She said, not wanting to hear anymore of this. "You're telling me that an erudite man... Who was a transfer from amity no less... Was successfully able to extort money from a dauntless mountain like you? That is not only unlikely, but insulting to your own strength. Also, your nose wrinkles when you lie."

The man slammed his hands on the desk. She didn't flinch. One of the perks to being dauntless-born was that she knew how to not let herself get intimidated by those stronger than her...

"He's... I'm telling you, he's threatening me!" The man said, now visibly trying to keep his nose from wrinkling without much success. "He's... He's DIVERGENT!"

She flinched. Even though she knew this man was lying, the word divergent caught her off guard.

"We are finished here, sir. I will review this case and get back to you with my verdict. But chances are, you won't like my decision so you might as well get used to disappointment now." She said, struggling to keep her voice level and only barely succeeding. "Please exit my office."

He looked ready to protest, but stomped out, slamming the door behind him.

-Divergent... You're divergent... Erudite and Candor.-

It was just over five years ago she'd heard them say that... How was she still living a relatively peaceful life here in Candor when so many others had been caught?

She walked out, locking her office door. She was going for a walk with Ethan. She would probably have to drag him out of the lab... He seemed so busy lately and wouldn't tell her what he was working on... Top secret or whatever...

((Because npcs))

Jules made his way to the nearest train platform, still familiar with their locations. He really shouldn't be taking the train, but it was certainly far faster than anything else around here, especially with Amity living so far from almost everything. The young man climbed up to the platform with the ease of familiarity. Through his feet Jules could feel the growing vibrations in the tracks that signaled the approach of the train. His body was in excellent shape, allowing him to run with the train and swing himself into a car fluidly.

Once inside the car, Jules pushed his bangs out of his face and took in his surroundings. The car was almost empty, containing nothing unusual, save two Dauntless members that he recognized. Brooke and Elijah. Brooke looked almost exactly as he had last time Jules had seen her: brown hair, medium olive skin, hazel eyes, average height with a strong small build. Elijah had changed more: he'd become visibly stronger, and appeared to be wearing more eyeliner than he used to, and his nails were painted black; that aside, Elijah was still taller than Jules, still had his typical tan, dirty blond hair, and grey-blue eyes.

"Hey hey hey! Jules! I 'aven't seen you in ages!" Elijah shouted in excitement. Brooke grinned broadly when she recognized him.

"I've been keeping busy, I suppose." Jules replied blandly, not without trying to keep his lips from forming a smirk. Elijah appeared to be consistent in his personality, too.

Brooke laughed, "what, busy playing that stupid banjo? You need to visit more!" She was insistent as ever. "Hey, we're just headed to a little roof-top shindig, if ya catch my drift. You should come! I mean, clearly you can't be too out of sorts if you can still catch the train that easily."

Fighting it out on a roof-top seemed like a poor idea, but at the same time, looking roughed up would make it both less suspicious for him to buy painkillers and easier to ask friends in Amity for them as well. Complaining of a headache could only get one so far.

"Being able to catch a train does not mean I can keep up in a fight, but I think I can be persuaded for old time's sake." Jules let a crooked grin show.

Elijah laughed and punched his shoulder, "yeah, awesome!"

Jules spent the train ride catching up with his old friends. Elijah was spontaneous and spirited as ever; and Brooke was as eager for a excitement as she had been before Jules had left.

Circumnavigating the erudite boy with a name starting with a 'J', which he'd already expelled from his mind, he went on to intimidatingly demand introductions from the rest of the foreign group, observing their mannerisms rather than memorizing their names. Some he did store away in his head to recall if the need arose to effectively taunt their owners.
As he reclaimed his place in front of the group, he found he could name quite a few initiates. The mechanism of his memory was governed by emotion, often of the unpleasant kind, as bad first impressions stuck to him more than those of well-mannered trainees and the sheer amount of people he now knew spoke volumes of the foul characters of this year's selection.
Other than the air-headed Candor and the pouting Erudite next to her, he had a run-in with quite a few odd birds down the row of initiates, including, but not limited to a group of infuriatingly arrogant Erudite ponces, one half of a pair of Abnegation twins that wouldn't stop bawling, a foul-mouthed Candor that he'd almost kicked out right off the bat and an Amity member that had attempted to pet him an unsettling amount of times.
Truly it would have been a treat to watch Lawrence in all his stoic glory try to avoid the orange-dressed ginger's grabby hands - or deal with the Candor that seemed to be endowed with the talent of employing every curse word he knew into a single sentence.
"Thank you for that input, Keiren, it's very much appreciated." Dima drawled out in response to that same Candor's vulgar tirade, after which he waited for the group to simmer down into silence, before he announced, with no small amount of resignation.
"Congradulations, you just managed to say your names. Now it isn't an achievement in terms of initiation progress and it is no match for the purgatorial hellfire that awaits you inside, which i excitedly anticipate boiling you in, but it's a small victory when it comes to incompetents like you. Let's see if we can walk down a linear path without getting our underwear in a bunch over the unfairness, shall we?" he asked in a mocking tone that resembled a kindergarden teacher, then motioned for the teens to follow him as he departed towards the room's exit. "Right this way, kids."

Dima's belittling behavior was already wearing on Quick's patience. He had never been known for being patient, but he was certainly going to try his hardest to swallow his pride and roll with it. The only thing worse than being talked down to like this was getting an unfamiliar punishment. The copper-haired teen wasn't going to get himself in trouble unless he knew the repercussions. Not letting slip a sigh, he followed Dima to the exit.

Autumn walked up to the reception desk. The usual sour-faced old hag was sitting there, filing through an assortment of colour-coded folders. She looked up at Autumn and scowled.

"Do you have an appointment?" She asked.

Autumn glared at her. "Yes I do. Despite my increasing impatience towards your inane rules regarding booking appointments to visit my own brother, I have indeed scheduled an appointment with him not because I wanted to, but because the very thought of having another conversation with you explaining why I find this rule of yours both pointless and frustrating, which will once again be ignored, despite my being right, gives me a migraine."

The receptionist scowled and checked her book, taking her time as she flipped through the pages.

"You may go up to his office." She said reluctantly.

Ethan stared at the data, as if hoping the answer would pop out at him. There was no clear variable that could determine divergence... There were some that hinted at it, but at best the results were only 70% accurate.

"I knew I'd find you up here. I see that the wicked witch is still working the desk."

"Her name is Pauline." He said, looking up briefly from his papers.

"Ya ya..." She said. "So what's that you're working on? Data tables? What are you looking for?"

"A variable connecting these cases."

Autumn looked over the files. She felt her brain come alive as she sifted through the data.

"You sure there's a variable tying these cases together?" She asked "the data looks pretty random to me..."

He nodded. All of these cases have something in common... I just need to know what."

"Then you need to consider that your data might not be as complete as you want to think it is. Or the data is inaccurate. Either way, you should look at your methods and not this false or incomplete data. Personally supervise the collection of the data if you can."

Ethan looked at her incredulously. She surprised him sometimes with her observations.

"You should've been Erudite." He joked.

Autumn gave him a weak smile. "Do you really think that that would be a good idea?"

He laughed. "No, guess not. Let's go get lunch."

He made a mental note to try her idea. Supervise the tests himself. That would ensure that it wasn't being tampered with... And then maybe he could find it.

Sam waited for the initiates to enter the pit. She sat down impatiently on a stone step. Her body shook a little. It felt like just yesterday she was a sixteen year old walking through those doors... Well, falling off a roof into a net. That's probably more accurate. She remembered entering the pit for the first time, how it was so different from home. Sam quickly stood up and started pacing, it was actually pretty exciting to help introduce the initiates to their new 'home'. Sam stood beside the door, waiting for Dima to bring them in. She could hear footsteps approaching the door and calmed herself down, she wondered what they where going to think when they see the pit. 'Their first thought would probably be how big it is... At least that was mine.' She thought, the antisipation of seeing the initiates was practically killing her.

With a confident stride and a foxlike glee gracing his features, Dima navigated through the intricate labyrinthine corridor with Dauntless' future in tow. The realization of that almost had him laughing, really, because it had been an absurd decision on Lawrence's part to assign the initiates to him - him, lowest rated team worker and nuisance extraordinare, vampiric in his ability to suck the happiness out of anything that breathed and endowed with admirable persistence, which would have been beneficial if it were someone else. But no it was him and he was nightmarish. The initiates knew as much by now.
The superiority he possessed over them became palpable when he emerged from the darkness of the tunnels to step onto a small uplifted platform on the edge of a stone terrace. It opened up to a cathedralic stone interior with a glass ceiling too high and a scale too large to be called a 'room' and he gazed over it, inflating with pride at the sight, before moving aside and motioning over the grandiose stone arrangement.
"This is the Pit." He said solemnly, raising his voice over the echoed yells of the Pit's occupants. "The pivot of activity here at Dauntless and your personal hel|. Or heaven. Depends on what you make of it." He shrugged half-heartedly, flashing a serpentine grin.

Sam smirked as she walked over to Dima and the initiates, pushing him playfully away for her introduction. But she already knew there was no way he'd move, that man was like a rock. She remembered when she attempted to punch him in the chest during training... Yup never doing that again. She sprung her wrist, from then on out she was sure he was made out of living marble. Sam looked over the initiates, she could easily tell where they came from by their attire. Candor, Eriudite, Amity, Abnigation and a few Dauntless borns. She was almost positive they had the most diverse amount of transfers. "Hello, I am Sam. One of the people who will show you around. No talk of your previous factions will be made after you have entered The Pit. Dauntless is your faction, it will always be and you must learn to act like its always been. Dauntless represents Bravery as you may know. So during your training before you become an official member of Dauntless you will go through numerous tests. These test will measure your bravery and ability to protect, fight, shoot, aim and many other things. You must all realize that if you back out now after all that I have said, you will not be allowed to go back to your original faction and you will become factionless. You will all be rated on our scale, if you are under the red line at the third month, as an added rule, you will become factionless. Any questions?" Sam asked looking at the group expectantly.

Sorry guys!! I was on vacation, let's see here… how to jump back in…

{Jubilee}

I followed the group of initiates, trying to stay in the back. Eventually we reached the… what did he call it? The pit. The center of dauntless life. Looking down I could see crowds of people holding drinks, food, or just chatting. Off to the side there was a tattoo parlor. I smirked. 'I'm gonna get a tattoo.' I thought to myself. Then a girl named Sam introduced herself and told us about training. Now I was even more scared. I sighed and imagined my name below the red line. I had to make it here.

Ethan handed Autumn a granola bar as they walked down the street. She looked at it and smirked.

"You used to bring better snacks when we were in Dauntless." she said. "Now that you're into this healthy stuff, you're no fun."

He rolled his eyes at her. "Dauntless can afford to eat as they please. They work it all off in their training."

"Ya well lucky for you, Candor's not so strict as Erudite on their menu." She held up two chocolate bars and dangled them in front of his face. "Unless you're worried about your figure."

He snatched one of the chocolate bars from her and inspected the Nutritional Guide... an Erudite invention no doubt... and unwrapped it, taking small bites. Autumn laughed and made quick worth of both the granola and chocolate bars.

"It was dry and tasteless." she said as he took a last bite of the chocolate. "Erudite food sucks. Although I suppose it's better than Abnegation food. Tried it once. Awful stuff."

"Whatever. Have you seen the new initiates in your faction yet?" he asked, trying to change the subject.

"No. I was meeting with this Dauntless brute all morning. Horrible liar, there's no way his case is going through." she said. "Besides, their final test is the real fun part. You can learn so much about a person with the truth serum."

He shook his head. "Why would you want to take it?" He asked. "Seems so invasive..."

"Don't knock it until you try it." She said. "It's really liberating. You should try it sometime. So what are you doing this afternoon? More labwork?"

"Of course." he sighed. "Always. You?"

"Going over to Dauntless to visit mom. Took me forever to get permission as usual, but I'd rather take that time than get shot by one of those trigger-happy psycho guards."

Ethan looked down. He had requested time away from the lab to do the same, but he was told that his work was too vital, so he could not go.

"Cheer up." She said. "I'll tell her you wanted to come. I know you're busy."

He smiled. "Thanks. I have to go now. Have fun at Dauntless."

She watched him leave. It was kind of sad, the way that Erudite were worked so hard, although she supposed the knowledge you gained in such a situation would be exciting...

She heard the rumble of an approaching train and ran up to it, trying to keep pace. She was a little slower than she once was, so it was hard. She jumped into a car, tripping slightly over her own feet, but ultimately ending up on the train.

She watched as the city flew past, a safe distance away from the door. Only a few more minutes and she'd be able to see her...

The Pit was gigantic. He quietly scanned all he could see. It was slightly unnerving to see all the walkways with no railings and nothing to prevent a fall. Tattoo parlors among other things were visible, built into the walls of the Pit and connected by the treacherous walkways. Everything in the home of the Dauntless was catered to only the bravest.

Autumn jumped from the train, landing on her hands and knees, scraping them. She brushed the dirt off her clothes and made her way down to the pit. She tried not to look down over the edge of the walkway. She had probably walked this path a million times in her youth, but she never did like heights...

Suddenly she felt hands on her waist and she was suddenly pushed towards the edge of the walkway. She screamed, drawing the eyes of everyone in the area.

"Oh man... That's still fun."

She was pulled back onto the ledge, where she was faced with a trio of guys from her year. They were well known for being ignorant morons, and she was glad to transfer from dauntless to get away from them...

"Let go of me, you neanderthal."

He let go and the three of them burst out laughing, like it was the funniest thing in the world and they weren't toying with her LIFE. Reason two for transferring out of dauntless. They never took danger seriously.

"Was that too much for you, smart-mouth?" he laughed. "You used to be so much more fun."

*constantly forgets eggcave is a thing* Let's continue this though.

Dima was inspecting the initiate reactions with an arrogant smirk, perched cockily on the upraised steel podium, when he briefly felt a feeble push against his side and Samantha circumnavigated around him to stand in front of the teens.
He snorted in good-natured laughter, amused at her attempt to move him out of the way and decided to add insult to 'injury' and draped an arm over her shoulder, leaning an elbow on the dip of her shoulder blade to emphasize his size superiority and also as a form of greeting.
He remained in that position as she spoke, all too interested in her reason of being there to interrupt.
At the end of it he was frowning, however.
"/You're/ the welcoming commitee?" he inquired in confusion. The duty to navigate the new Dauntless initiates around the compound was usually given to long-term members - Samantha wasn't one. Neither was he, especially considering his ill mannered behavior and his incompatibility with other Dauntless. Sam was a partial exception, as he'd learned to exist in a mutual state of annoyance with her - they were both mischevous things and though in normal circumstances he would have hated her and vice versa, she was persistent in her social interactions and they'd come to bear each other's presence.
And another thing they had in common:
They both held much lower ranks than the Dauntless that usually tended to oversee the initiations every year. They weren't suitable. It was baffling.
"Right, right, you heard the chick, training begins tomorrow. Initiation has already begun and each step of it you undergo brings you closer to your new faction. This is a minor aspect of your initiation, but it's time you also looked the part. Follow me." he motioned them over to a narrow walkway leading to another maze of tunnels. A series of blue neon lights were installed on the ceilings and thus they could see where they were going, but couldn't discern each other's faces or other such minor details.
He pulled Samantha along, keeping her close with the arm he had draped around her as he spoke discreetly.
"'s it me or is the compound less... equipped with competent members than it was last year?" he wondered casually, not yet alluding to his main concern and concealing his confusion as a jab at Sam's esteem. "You're not the brightest flower of the pot, so that leads me to think the other dandelions weren't exactly available?"

@dada_dragon
Lawrence, along with the other Dauntless veterans, made his way down from the main building's roof along with the failed initiates after Dima had jumped. He insisted on personally carrying out the transportation of the initiates to the factionless grounds and situating them - the trip was necessary both for them and him, as he had a squad of guards situated near the wall whose actions he had to oversee.
He was calmly navigating a sobbing mess of an Abnegation transfer and one particularly indignant Candor who still subtly trembled from nearly failing the train jump. They necessitated some sort of comfort and he knew better than to assign a Dauntless member to escort them out - his faction tended to be brutally unapologetically cruel to those who openly displayed fear.
And as followed, when he saw the woman clad in black and white enter the compound he knew she wasn't safe. The face was vaguely familiar and if she'd transferred out it was automatically seen as inexcusable cowardice. The Dauntless coming her way seemed to uphold that belief too, if the predatory way in which they eyed her was any indication.
He made no move to interfere before anything had happened, hoping despite himself that they would show some decency but as soon as they passed by her, one reached over to deliver a harsh push.
The woman's screech was enough to attract attention, but Lawrence was thunderously advancing forward from the moment the red-haired Dauntless had extended an arm towards the Candor.
Within a second's worth he had locked the offending man's wrist in a death grip and had propelled his body backwards with a violent tug, hanging him over the chasm. The redhead let out a surprised cry, grappling at the blond's jacket, seeking to balance himself but to no avail - his feet were planted on the ground right on the edge of the bridge but everything else had tilted backwards into the air, only Lawrence's bruising fingers around his wrist preventing him from falling to his death.
Fitting to his rigid posture, Lawrence's face was an icy sculpture of anger, upper lip curled into an Erudite-typical sneer. The two other men retreated a step, not daring to remain close but simultaneously worried about displaying fear by moving away any further.
When the buff blond eyed them they held his leveled gaze.
"The chasm is a symbol of the thin line between bravery and idiocy." he quoted calmly, returninghis piercing eyes to the redhead as he glanced down to the roaring water beneath. "I expect you to appreciate the metaphor and make like a decent Dauntless representative."
With a might swing, he flung the man to the right towards his two other friends and watched as he barely found his footing and crashed into them. They hastily righted him and helped him balance.
"We were jus' hav'n' fun!" one of the other two, a monstrously built brunette, said.
"Satirizing the endangering of someone's life is fun only for the cowards who instigated it. We do not prey on the weak" the emphasizing click of his tongue on the 'k' made the trio draw back as a collective herd and walk away when he dismissively turned away from them to regard the woman.
"Apologies."

Autumn was brushing herself off when the man addressed her.

"I would love to say that I accept your apology, but I'm afraid that after the day I've had, I'm not particularly in the mood to." she said, not bothering to hide her frustration and embarrassment. "I have no patience for rowdy dauntless pigs, so if you would please step aside, I would like to make my visit and then leave you crazy people to whatever stunt you have planned for this afternoon."

Holding back was not in her nature, despite the distinctly erudite nagging voice in her head, telling her that what she was saying was not particularly smart to say around an entire compound of short-tempered and heavily muscled dauntless. She'd learned to ignore the voice for the most part.

Ethan was a lot more rational than she was. She had no doubt in her mind that he wasn't divergent like her. She knew him too well.

"Do I know you?" she added as an afterthought. While she didn't recognize a lot of the people around here anymore... She never had a knack for remembering faces... His face seemed to stand out. She usually only remembered faces if they were attached to family, old friends, morons like the dauntless trio that had just harassed her, or someone very important. She was leaning more on the side of "important".

Patience wasn't a Dauntless virtue and thus it wasn't a virtue he possessed, but Lawrence held back whatever knee-jerk physical reaction or verbal argument he had and waited out the woman's tirade, already having stepped to the side of the bridge, toeing the edge in wait for her to depart. She certainly wasn't of the moderately respectful Candor, nor the intelligent ones, but he supposed a majority of the honest faction tended to share a certain indignation that outweighed common sense.
Truly no brain-to-mouth filter, but then again, wasn't that what Candor had been created for...

The absentminded addition to her insult brought an amused smile to his face. It was an afterthought of rationality, even if it was awfully late.
"It hardly matters now." he dismissed the inquiry and urged her further into the compound. "Verbal arguments tend to turn violent in this faction - word of warning if you can't handle the physical repercussions. Have a pleasant visit."

With a stiff nod as farewell and a beckoning tilt of his head at the failed initiates, Lawrence climbed down from the narrow bridge and waited as the Abnegation and Candor hurried over to him, the dichromatically dressed male pausing briefly to meet the woman's eyes in teary recognition, waving a brief goodbye as he passed her.

She fought back the retort that was forcing its way up her throat, the nagging erudite voice in her head telling her to quit while she was ahead becoming louder than the enraged candor one telling her that he had it coming. She settled for a mildly indignant reply.

"I will take my leave then." she growled under her breath, loud enough for him to hear her, then added without thinking, "Sir."

Where had that come from? It had been a long time since she had lived here. Obviously this man was significant. It still wasn't clicking though.

She walked away before he could reply - if he was even going to reply at all, which she doubted - and made her way down towards the residential areas, knocking on one of the first doors. It didn't take her mother long to answer.

"Hey, Autumn." She said, holding the door for her to come in. Her mother was an imposing figure, not by size like most others, but in her appearance.

She had shoulder-length hair, dark like Ethan's, but she shared Autumn's narrow facial features and slender build, though admittedly was in much better physical condition than her daughter, with firm muscle showing under her tanned skin.

Her face was striking, with pale blue eyes and a network of tattooed thorny branches starting at her cheekbones, working their way around her collarbone and branching off between her shoulder blades down her arms and spine. Both ears were pierced several times, more than both her and Ethan combined, she assumed.

She looked severe, but she was welcoming, especially since both her and Ethan left. She'd been cross for a while, but was coming to terms with it.

"How's work?" She asked cordially, not making eye contact as she returned to the supper she was making on the stove. It was an improvement.

"Intolerable." she said, sitting on the couch, watching her mother work. "Too much complaining from people too old to throw temper tantrums over little things and wasting my time."

Her mother nodded vaguely. Autumn eyed her suspiciously. It wasn't as though her mother was usually any more talkative since her and Ethan had left, but her tone had a hint of something she didn't like...

Lawrence waved the Candor initiate along, nodding a goodbye to the woman and hoarding the teen duo out before either of them had burst out crying. He understood their distress and tried not to judge them for their cowardice, but the intermittent sobs of the Abnegation girl grated at his nerves already.

He ascended up the stairs leading to the roof of the building and listened with one ear as the two chatted behind him under their breath.
From the snivelling female voice he learned that the emotionally wrecked girl from Abnegation was called Klaudia, or a variation thereof, whilst her partner with the confident tone and the Candor clothes was Irving. Irving quite liked the role of white knight and was intently set on consoling the girl.
He wasn't good at either.

He lacked the courtesy necessary for approaching an emotionally sensitive person and Lawrence almost cringed at Irving's truthful evaluation of the situation, which he supposed was intended originally to make Klaudia feel better.
"I'm sure we'll survive at least a good while there."

No you won't.

He was sending them to the factionless grounds, to disease-infested land with borders soon to be lined with soldiers and protected from the outside in, like the entire goddamned city. He was condemning them to an existence that not only bore no meaning to the faction people but was sacrificed with ridiculous ease for the good of what everyone believed to be the many. A single failure weighed as much as death and now, for a change, that didn't apply only to Dauntless.

They finally surfaced from the dark tunnels onto a brightly lit upraised steel podium, squinting against the assault of sunlight. They were situated dangerously close to the train tracks and it was obviosly going to be their transport again. The tracks already rattled with the weight of the upcoming vehicle and the Candor looked about ready to wet himself.

The mounting turned out to be as hard a task as Lawrence assumed it would be but after some fruitless coaxing and an impatient grab-you-round-the-waist-and-chuck-you-in he was now comfortably settled in the train, leaning against the wall near the door and calmly eyeing the Candor's glare.

They remained silent throughout the ride and their dread grew palpable when the dark grey cityscape of the factionless area whizzed past the windows.
The two teens stood up to prepare themselves for the jump and to take a peek at their new home, even though they wanted to do neither.
Watching through the opening, Lawrence eventually caught sight of his own soldiers and the feeling of it was nauseating.
The Factionless borders had always been blurry and not particularly set because these people weren't considered worthy of any formalities, but now the edge of the quarantine zone was heavily underlined with soldier patrols and the hypocrisy struck him something horrible.

He could see his men drawing closer to the railroad and knew they were just as unnerved as him to see the initiates. It was inevitable but still unnerving.

He jumped. His landing was flawed this time, and heavy, and he allowed himself to bend his knees lightly and sag down. He heard two consecutive thumps near himself and a loud cuss and turned to catch another scathing glare aimed at him from the Candor boy.
As the two righted themselves, Lawrence spared no time and proceeded towards the small gathering of Dauntless forces, who were eyeing him with as much disdain as he would have thought he deserved.
A bulky brunette surfaced from the group, superior in build and visibly the main operating force there. Pursing his lips, he glimpsed the initiates behind Lawrence and his gaze filled with pity.

These were the first two to become factionless this year and the first two they would have to escort into the quarantine zone.

Sam looked at him with a disapproving look with an added roll to her eyes for effect. It was true that he was taller, by a whole foot actually. She was only 5"2, sometimes that wasn't the best thing to be in this Faction, but she made the cut anyway. Although to this day she often either has to have someone get her something, or climb on something to get whatever she needs herself. She knew that he knew that, because she may or may not have asked him for his help a time or two, and so he basically got the right to tease her about it whenever he wants because of it.
"If you must know, my dear friend, they went out to the wall. They didn't say why, but they did say they wouldn't be back until after dinner, so that leaves us to take care of the newbie's. They must have really lowered the standards for you as well, cause your no Sunflower yourself dearie." She explained, adding her signature sarcastic comment at the end. Sam had always put up with his constant, what she referred to as 'idiocy', though other's would call it 'teasing'. She smirked at the thought of when they first met, the annoyance and hot-headedness during the interaction was a sight to behold.
As they begun the walk through the labyrinth of hallway's, she had no trouble denying that she was a terrible navigator when it came to these halls. She began to drag her hand across the stone wall, enjoying the cool feeling of the stone.

"'Yes' would've been quicker." he snarked. "You almost sounded like me there. Either ways, I'm right - majority of the veterans are out too, which means there's something going on."
He paused to navigate her towards the right corridor and motioned the initiates along. They were nearing a particular section where the lights were lacking.
"I can tell you one thing - it's not the wall. Just came back from there, nothing's wrong with the border or the farms." He smiled and his teeth glowed in the dim neon light. "Bet you money it's the endemic going on in the factionless area."
