Character Building

Alright, all of you writers out there! It's time for some character building exercises. Here's how it works.

I will ask a question, and you will reply as your character. This allows you to build knowledge of your character, as well as a unique voice for the character. Feel free to include verbal quirks (stutters, the odd word in a foreign language, slang) that will make your character more real to you.

Example --

Question: Where would your character most like to vacation?

Violet: "I prefer the south of France. Stop laughing, Will. Okay, so if I had the money for both food and a grandiose vacation, I would prefer the south of France. Happy?"

1. You pick a character that you want to build.
2. Give some basic statistics, like name, age, gender, and species.
3. If you've read these conditions, post your favorite gemstone under this number.
4. Ping me and anyone you want to join this.

Do we have to use our character's real name? The reason why I'm asking is so that we won't get spammed on Egg Cave if any of us become famous authors.

I suppose not, but then again, you don't necessarily have to use their full name either. You could just as easily provide a nickname. 😊

Ohh, I get the question thing now lol. Oops.

I have a lot of OCs...
I have trouble picking one but here's the most recent. He's still in progress so, eh.

1. Kaden
2. Male 21; slight build, 5'8. His short dark,brown hair is somewhat spiky (it's actually just really messy). His usual attires consists of a plain white t-shirt and baggy jeans. It almost seems like he wears the same thing every day and gives off an apathetic vibe. Not exactly a type of person who stands out of the crowd. Talk to him though...you'll find that he seems to be a very different person than what people most people make him out to be. For the most part.

He's also, uh, not exactly a people people so I hope some of the answers are...okay. .-.

Oh, and he's human. lol. Not sure how much info you want.

3. I don't know too much about gem stones but jade is pretty.

Kaden leaned back in his chair. Both of his arms were stretched out behind him, resting his head, and his legs were sprawled across the table, showing off his old, worn out shoes.

"My greatest influence in life..." he mused to himself. He paused.

"Jean-Paul Sartre." He replied, tilting his head up proudly. "The man knows what he's talking about."

[When asked for more detail, he mutters some profanity. You can't quite make out what he says]

Nightmare: No one. Everyone is either cruel, insignificant, or inhibited. I do not want to be like anyone I've met. Still, if I had to pick someone, I'd say my twin brother Dream. Though I disagree with many of his opinions, I am coming back to rescue him. I suppose he has influenced me to care for someone other than myself.

What is your greatest fear for your life?

Layla: "I am afraid of ending up as detached from the world as the rest of my kind... It's hard to imagine how hard it will be to outlive all of my human and werekind friends. But I'm also afraid I'll die before laying eggs, which means that my kind will be gone from the earth."

"I am afraid of the ocean. It is so beautiful, so awe striking, yet the vastness of the sea is so great, it's terrifying. Or when you're in a desert and you realize it seems to stretch out eternally, yet there is a certain beauty of it that arises from the feeling of fear," [he babbles on incessantly] "...they're majestic examples of how inferior we are and what minute beings we are in the world. We can't help but admire them. Something that is sublime, scares me."

My aunt was tubing behind us, and we took a sharp turn to attempt to throw her off. I was thrown into the water. I almost drowned. It was horrible, I couldn't breathe, couldn't see…. [she shivers and shakes her head and resumes talking.] Like I said about my brother being my greatest influence and kind of my hero, he dived and saved me. Not my parents, not my aunt, him. [She looks down and picks at her nail polish.]

"As much as I would hate to admit it, it's going to be Gumi. She started her career from a rival company and is even matching rivalries with Miku!" One day maybe I'll be the most well known out of the English singers, with concerts including me in them.

Greatest fear:
"That's simple! Like anyone like me, my greatest fear would to be forgotten." I cast my eyes down and tugged at the edge of my cape. "I won't be forgotten... I can't be forgotten."
