The Catctus (artist needed, please!)

Hi there! You may remember me from the creature suggestion, the Nebulouse. Allow me to present to you a new creature suggestion-..

The Catctus! Catcti for plural.

Egg description:

Ouch! This egg is covered in spines! One prick and you will feel an inexplicable, unquenchable thirst for the next 24 hours. Please only handle with the utmost of care - and the toughest of gloves, of course.

Creature description:

Catcti live their lives just a frustrated as their owners, because like any cat, they want to be petted and cuddled - however, seeing as they are covered in spines, this is impossible. Their regenerative properties are something to be admired, though, because many have tried to surgically remove their Catctus' spines in order to commence with said cuddling only to have them grow back overnight.

The spines do serve an evolutionary purpose, as it is. A Catctus cannot drink water orally as it does not have an actual stomach with which to receive and disgest any food or water. The way a Catctus "drinks" is by absorbing water from anything it pierces with its spines - meaning that any time a creature (such a human) comes into contact with a Catctus' spines, water is absorbed from that creature by the Catctus, which is why a person feels extremely thirsty after such contact.


As the title states, I do need an artist. Feel free to take creative liberty with this one - I am pretty much just picturing a super friendly-looking green cat that is covered in spines, maybe even a stage that looks sad because it wants to cuddle with you but can't. The last stage should definitely have flowers on its ears and maybe even its tail.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think! I may elaborate more on this later as I think more on it, but I wanted to get my idea on the table for the time being. 😸

I did a egg 1st and 2nd. 😊 I was thinking about all the cacti we have here where I live, and I couldn't stop thinking about prickly pears. X3
Prickly pears are 1st fruit (shown on 1st) then I made them start to kinda bud in the 2nd stage. 3rd will have vibrant yellow flowers. 😊
I wanted to try to make it look like it had spiky fur (that looks kinda desivingly fluffy), and then use a more real looking cacti for its tail and around the neck.

@prairie - I love it so far! I do like the spines as looking more like fur, too. Can't wait to see the last stage. x3
