Advent Tree Frustrations

For some reason, the advent tree isn't letting me get anything. There is only one button which is "Return to Ark". There is also a grey outline of a rectangle that has no button or anything in it whatsoever. I tried reloading it a couple of times but still, nothing! Please help!

Please enlighten me: how the Advent Tree works? It is my first time with this event and all that I can see is a picture of a tree - unclicable anywhere, and a blue button below.
How should it work? What rewards are possible to get?
