Growing up Thanksgiving was a big deal, spending all day with the whole family (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc). My mom cooked a lot, so did my grandpa and aunt. Then I got older, mom and I moved, and it became mostly just us for Thanksgiving. Some years we would go to a friend's house or be invited to a church thing. But mom still cooked a turkey! This year we have ordered a Thanksgiving Meal from the grocery store. None of the cooking will be done by mom (or me, I'm not exactly a great cook). It feels a little weird that it's basically not going to be a big thing, really just another day. The past few years have been leading up to this though, last year there was minimal cooking and a friend brought us food. My mom's birthday is not long after Thanksgiving though, we are kind of focusing more on that than Thanksgiving (at least, I am).

This year I'm just going to be of taking care of some things around the house and getting take-out (hopefully) from a local farm-to-table restaurant.Growing up it was a really big shin-dig in my family where everyone brought something and we'd gather at one of the Aunt's or Grandparent's house.(My favorite foods were probably the greenbean casserole, mashed potatoes, baked squash, or the numerous home-made desserts.)(I hear ya on how it feels strange in that transition period when one grows up with it being a really BIG thing, to all of a sudden it just being another day. I'm used to it by now for the most part, but for a few years it was... odd.)My favorite year was when I held Friendsgiving at a friend's apartment (before it was a fad. We were all busy with jobs and moved around the country by the time it was.) One of the happiest Thanksgivings I had since my age was in the single digits.
