I found it on a form of a pokemon fan website called TPPCRPG.
Someone had their creature in their Signature, I clicked and wanted to play immediately, haha.

Through a creature link in a signature on a forum on a fan page for another pet site.

Jellyneo for Neopets if details matter. I haven't been there in years though. The whole Java/Flash thing changed the site to much for my mental state at the time (lots of personal stuff going on), so I took an accidental hiatus and just haven't returned.

I have returned to the site I discovered Neo through, even though it took a worse hit (it was a game site that was decimated, but operated over 2 versions for several months, so you could still use the old version while slowly acclimatizing to the new site as new stuff was brought out). Been at that site over 18 years, here is 15 years in a week, so Neo was somewhere in between. (And yes, I'm old, and currently feeling it typing out those numbers).

a few years ago went i was on school owned computers, i was on scratch (bc scratch is school friendly and is not banned) and found this person who made a post abt viewing their eggs on eggcave. since all games were blocked at the time i didnt think that eggcave would be unblocked, and just to prove that fact to myself i clicked the link and it didnt send me to a blocked page... it went though
considering some supposedly school friendly websites (like literally other search engines and some reasource websites) are blocked as well for odd reasons i was in complete shock when the website loaded
the art was cool so i decided to register. i didnt thought id play for years or even months because the past games ive played i've deleted. but look where im now lol

Honestly, at this point I have no memory, but my guess is The Daily Neopets. My kid self really liked Neopets and I can recall visiting that fansite here and there. Since EC and TDN are both made by the same person, I'd imagine this would've been advertised in some way on it.

I found EggCave via a forum thread on Toyhouse that archived various virtual pet websites! It’s been very useful in locating new sites with how far Google has fallen.

haha, i found it when i was 13 on glitter-graphics.com, i was using that website a lot and I noticed EggCave players were posting their eggs on their profiles or in their signatures, when leaving a comment, something like that.

Most directly, it was from seeing the eggs in people's signatures on Chicken Smoothie. I'm pretty sure I had seen them around other places before then, and had been curious.
