I feel like my pets don’t count all u-views from other sites

So I put a few creatures in sigs on four other sites. One of those sites I’ve been able to get a ton of unique views very rapidly for my Dragon Cave dragons for example, usually 100-300 or more per day. Usually when I had dragons in my sig, they’d get so many unique views in one day so rapidly that I’d have to hide them to prevent them from getting sick (if you use dragon cave you might know what I mean.)

I’ve been checking my Aerlo’s view count a few times a day each day for idk like three days now, and it has hardly increased. Same with the other creatures I have in sigs, and I’m a little confused on how they seem to be maybe tracking less unique views than my Dragon Cave dragons were? I’m not entirely sure what to make of that, or why there seems to be a pretty significant difference in unique view count for my Egg Cave buddies and my Dragon Cave buddies.

Does anyone else experience slow unique view count when your creatures are on other sites through BBCode?

Put all my Fuffers in my signature on a certain BBCode enabled forum for about a month and it didn't seem to register any of their views.

So it's definitely not just you. D:

@jarsha - Noticed it much earlier this year. Might sound incredibly silly, but my stupidly paranoid mind was too afraid to mention anything about this in case it really was just me who wasn't receiving off-site views. Finding this thread has been very relieving, haha.

@ian is this something that isn't functioning as intended, or is it meant to be this way?

With how high the unique view requirements are for some creatures, a fix if this isn't functioning correctly would be appreciated!

@sparklefox yeah I was feeling like something had to be off since I'd have my Dragon Cave dragons in the same sigs as my Egg Cave creatures, so to see they weren't matching up in unique views was super weird and made me think I must be counting or seeing it wrong lol, so I'm relieved in a way that it's not just me.

It occurred to me that this probably has to do with browsers having tracking protection enabled. One of the specific things it shuts down is embedded images reporting your browsing activity to their host site. IE if a website has a "Share to Facebook" button then that button is reporting where you go and when to Facebook, which is why their targeted ads feel like they're stalking you.

So anyway it wouldn't surprise me if Firefox blocking tracking by default means that it's preventing the eggcave servers from logging IP addresses to tally the unique views per day. If that's the case the way views are handled in game may need to be overhauled, IE lower requirements, buffed views (like logged in players giving more views per view), more eased up restrictions (like instead of just tracking unique views have it track non-identifying offsite loads as 0.1 view), or adding some secondary means of obtaining views.

That last one might require some technical knowledge/hiring a contractor but the internet has changed a lot since the bbcode days and it may be possible to hook the existing process into modern social media. Might bring in a whole younger generation of players as well.
