I am religious, therefore I don't think I'm going to die in 2012. I started researching to prove it wrong. The results of my research have made it more convincing that I'm going to die in 2012. Including Steven Hawkings, who I think is a genius, and a strange telephone call. I would love if some people could post some things that would prove it false again or we could at least have a discussion about the possibilities.

@pirateseaz
Um...
Hmm...

I don't think we're going to die, but I won't help feeling nervous next year. (:

Deleted • 22 December 2011 at 3:41 PM

I personally don't believe in this.

But I won't bring my religion into this. Because most likely, not everyone will agree with me. And when I talk about religion, I get a hate crime. xD

@pirateseaz

I personally think its like a money scam

Remember that guy who said the world was going to end like back in October?
That was a scam
And there is people selling shelters
WHY SELL THEM?
If your going to "die" why not just give them away for free?

It's rather childish to believe all of this unecessary hype. Human beings have been predicting the end of the world since it began. None of those claims have been anywhere near true. Nowadays, it's all about money and power. As @tomboy3603 stated, people selling shelters and people preaching the end of the world have all got one thing in common: a lust for money. None of these people have any evidence whatsoever, nor do they have any sense of humanity. It's all about the money. Remember that.

The world cannot spontaneously end. It is an impossible feat. You cannot split the Earth like you can split an atom. I don't really give a hoot what Hawkings says--all of his "findings" are only theories, just like everyone else's. A theory is something that has not been proven; it is not fact. Therefore, I wouldn't take anything he says to heart.

My reason that people think it is:

Everything ends in 12:
Become a teenAger
12 months

And maybe something is with the 2...
2000
2002
2012

Are all years people thought the world was going to end...but did it? Well I don't think I would have been here typing this if it did.

Even if it did end next year, we would have no way to stop it right? Why do people prepare for these things? It's not like if you are prepared that you will live, if the world ends, everything dies...so I would just wait, and if it does then it will...but if it doesn't then that proves us eggcave logicπŸ˜‹

@tomboy3603
if there were a like button, you hit the nail on the head.

God is omniscience, we were created as not to be. Only he knows the end that we could not even comprehend. Even if 2012 were to be the end of the world, we would be going to God's house where we would never die or have sorrow.

Anyone who claims to know the end of the world is doing so for media attention or financial gain.

We are going to die someday regardless, so why worry? Make the best of this situation.

Maybe, although this seems bad it will make us all stop taking advantage of our lives and start living it to its fullest.

It is like the parable of the good and bad, maybe something good will come from this!

If the world was to end, it would be a political/social end; our countries would fall apart at the seams. There IS evidence of that kind of end; but the world itself is in no danger of coming to an end. I think people are getting to wrapped up in things they don't understand.

@balletninja it's a double-edged sword. Countries are falling to pieces; have you seen the condition of Europe? Yes, I see many people standing up for their own rights, and that's a wonderful thing. But with the recession that has struck the world...

Deleted • 22 December 2011 at 4:01 PM

@pirateseaz

The world is NOT going to end, and it really annoys me that people actually debate this topic like it's serious.

I'm pretty sure the whole 2012 end thing started with the Mayan calendar ending, which the Mayans went and told us all was stupid and that their people just didn't get around to making the calendar go farther.

Further proof is that they made a ridiculous movie on 2012 in which many natural disasters all occur at once, which would likely only happen if the moon were to be knocked nearer to earth, in which case what year it was would have no effect on it happening.

And three, I am atheist and I'm with @smilies. People like to panic.

In fact, the only reason anyone should even remotely believe the world is going to end is because the Hadron Collider Experiment is set to happen in 2012. And I'm pretty sure the scientists aren't stupid enough to do something that could destroy the world.

You know, I don't really care if the world ends in 2012, I mean, even if it did end, who the heck's gonna stop it? xD

If it ends it ends, know what I mean?

But, if you ask me, I don't think it'll end in 2012.

@brisies Exactly, good and bad. Illusions. It is what you make of it, so hopefully this 2012 thing is just what the media is making it out to be. Bad. It makes a better story than telling us on the news that the world is going to get better.

Humans like to make themselves scared;
heck, I love reading creepypastas because
I like to be scared sometimes.

The story blows up because it is scary
and people like to talk about it.

@balletninja I think it is more along the lines of people blindly believing every word of someone in power. People are very poor at molding their own beliefs.

Deleted • 22 December 2011 at 4:19 PM

@briseis

Of course. I once heard of a quote that said something like, "A man can say anything, and any fool will believe it. How do you think elected officials get to power?"

How can you prove that the Mayans knew the world was going to end in 2012? :/

But there is a meteor that is on a collision course for Earth and its ten times as big. It has an 80% chance of hitting Earth and its supposed to strike in 2029, now theres a real threat O.O

Deleted • 22 December 2011 at 4:37 PM

MY religion: science

So uh, Meteors I do believe in. But SERIOUSLY?

People only say "OMG THE WORLD! ENDING! 2012!! HJFHSFHSUFJJK!!"

Because they like to see other people freak out and waste their money, etc.

I won't fall for such crap. πŸ˜‹

@pirateseaz The near-earth-object 99942 Apophis HAD a 2.7% chance of hitting the Earth in 2029, but observations since 2004 have proved that it will NOT impact with the Earth. Anything you hear stating otherwise it complete bull****. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/99942_Apophis

Oh, my old status would've be GREAT for this! XD

"I KNOW the world won't end in 2012, because Marty Mcfly traveled to 2020!!" XD

Oh, yeah, I USED to worry about it, but I stopped caring. ^^ And I can take my awesome Dad for this AMAZINg piece of truth....

"If it DOES end.... Who really cares? We're all be dead anyway. There's nothing we CAN do if it does happen, so why bother? If anything, just hope we go peacefully."

XD He said something along those lines, but he thinks it's.... uhh, what @smilies said. XD

Oh! And i'm going to make a comedy movie sketch called 2012, and it involes two Time-Traveling astronauts that go back in time, and when they crash-land on earth, they land on the Mayan in charge of making the calander. XD So- Yeah. XD

@pirateseaz the asteroid has nearly no chance of hitting the Earth. I've already written about this in another thread, but I'll reiterate it again.

1.) The meteor is the same distance from the Earth as the moon. If the meteor were to somehow be drawn into our atmosphere, then so would the moon. The moon is much heavier and has more mass than the meteor.

2.) The meteor, if it did, by some stroke of luck, pass into our atmosphere, would disintegrate before it left the ozone.

3.) The meteor would destroy only a small landmass if it WERE, as I said, by some stroke of luck, able to pass through our ozone and make it successfully to the earth. It would be too small (due to burning and disintegration) to do any type of substantial damage to the earth's surface.
