@karamel
When I was a newbie, I think I got a Flaren (but those were new at the time). I never get CC; though it's been tempting! πŸ˜‰ Mostly I've been trading and I've been here long enough for my cove to develop.

Although, it does seem as though new users are getting more creatures. Maybe that's a good thing though. It helps them get more motivated about the site πŸ˜‹

@iulianna1 But all the "old" users probably didn't get anything. It's like a new generation, like the modern world. We're getting more and more better stuff, but they become rare and newbies get them for free. No one's going to go up to someone like me (an "oldie") and say, "Hey, late welcome to EC, here's a newbie gift!"

I didn't get anything when I was a noob. >.>

I agree with you, newbies are getting a lot more creatures now. Which I don't like in a way, because most newbies will either let the creatures die, trade them away, or quit the site and give them to random users. I personally have a hard time trusting newbies, unless they're people that I know in real life *pokes friend list*, and I can talk to them elsewere.

I've talked to several newbies in the past, gave them a warm welcome, helped them out, sometimes even gave them a little gift. I'd have to say about 95% of the newbies I've seen either abandon the site or tick everyone off and get offended when we scold them.

And then there are the types of newbies that overuse the Blocking feature...

And then there are the random newbie trolls...

And the spambots...

And the thing I hate most, people who come on EggCave who are extremely young. I'm not talking about people my age, 11 or 12, I'm talking about even younger than that. Sometimes age does matter, you know, but what concerns me the most is NOW 8 or 9 or 10 year olds can bump into sites like this and chat with others on the Internet. They don't even have any information for their own safety yet.

Ah, I wish I got a gift when I was new...=w=
I agree with you. Why do newbies get all the good stuff? ☹️

(btw I'm not new, this is a new account 😊)

@karamel
True. I'm not disagreeing with you. A lot of newbies get rare creatures. I know my friend was quitting and so gave her rare creatures away to new players. I sure didn't get that (and I'm not very old πŸ˜‰ ) But other new players don't get those gifts. And I don't see those players around very often.

Maybe today's newbies just need a small gift to get started... but a Tine seems like TOO much of a gift O_O

@dreamer I totally agree with you. This is the really annoying part of virtual websites. Younger kids go on and think, "I can just lie! I AM SO COOL."
@replica I got ONE gift, but it was like, "Here are some free eggs for random newbies!" and it wasn't even addressed to me. I just chose it because I thought they looked nice.
@iulianna1 It looks like it will become a free Tine, soon enough. At the rate of rare eggs newbies are getting, it definitely looks like it.
(I just chose Tine because it's like the ONLY rare creature I know most people want.)

@karamel
It is true that newbies get rares, but I think people should be a little more considerate on what they give, because like @dreamer said, not many of them stay.
However it is always nice to give them a welcoming gift.
@dreamer
Truly said, not many of the users that come on do stay. Also I don't hate it when kids the age of 8-9 come on this site, but I think it it definitely something to be concerned about.

Again, I'd have to say that in a way, most newbies now are getting spoiled.

I mean, I see people who've barely been on for a month and they have more CCs than I do!

When I was a newbie, I wasn't being pampered with all these new les. I joined in July of 2010, so there were never les in the cave, and the newest creature to come out after I joined was the Taigrin.
I found a Mo in the cave one morning in November 2010, and I loved him SO much. Besides Confetti the Tasma, that little Mo egg was the only thing I had on this site.
It went that way for a couple months and soon I ended up getting a couple 2010 crws (which weren't extremely rare at the time).
But my biggest jump was when I got some cc. It was around October, when the mummars, kinumps, et catera (etc.), were being released. I bought a couple mummars, and I had a few les, and people were suspicious. That's where it all started for me. I was still 10 at that point, and I was also dealing with some new things to me in real life, so I wasn't on much, or wasn't comfortable talking.
Then my mom went on Facebook a few months later and signed me up to be a v2 beta tester. All I remember is when v2 came out to the public, I had several eggs that most users covet.

You just need to start from scratch instead of having your spoiled little butt handed to you on a silver platter. If people threw a bunch of rare pets at me when I was newie, I would probably still be that way now. So in a way, I'm thankful that I got nothing.

Some people come to egg cave because their friends play egg cave. And of course, friends give friends things a lot of the time. Another thing to consider that not EVERY newbie is a real one. Some are side accounts, some are people pretending to be newbies and putting some of their creatures on that account (not everyone likes to be known as who they are.. no clue why. And they go to extremes to pretend to be someone else).

@orange That wasn't a newbie gift, which is why I wasn't referring to him, but it was because @deannoblanco3 passed away and her Macbot was given to him.
@dreamer I do agree with you. That's what I was saying; all these newbies are getting better creatures by the minute, and it needs to be the way it was a long time ago.
I joined 2 months ago, and even though I wasn't like you, I didn't get anything.
@gvantsa Wow. That's something new. Who would do that? ._.
Of course, I joined because my sibling introduced it to me, but she didn't give me anything, and I haven't-- well, I'm about to give something to her, but it's a trade.

Well, yeah. It looks like it's heading that way. But WE have the power to stop that. Everyone- stop giving away rare creatures to random new players! XD

@orange
True O_O I found that a little.... I don't know... weird.

@dreamer Agreed.

When I joined in the beginning of November, I only got cave creatures. No Mos. No welcome gifts. No anything. I wasn't able to get on for the week they had Leymas, so I had to wait for Christmas. And those LEs weren't worth much... They were all over and I was really proud to get a Brownil, I found all my LEs myself. Then after Christmas, I traded them for rarer LEs, which I traded for CCs, which I traded for, well you know.πŸ˜‹
But my point is, you have to learn to work for the things you want. You can't have everything handed to you.

@gvantsa You're right. No one here has given me gifts - i've had to trade or pay EC up the ying-yang for the few 'rare' or 'LE' eggs i do have (or i straight up found them myself in the cave). I've got nothing to barter with, and still don't fully understand the whole rarity scale thing. Some LE's are rare, some aren't but still worth something just because they're LE... i don't know. Someone told me Bliz, Orp & Tific aren't rare and that everybody would have a bunch of them in the next week so they weren't interested. whatever... if a newbie who shouldn't even understand the whole rare/cc creature b.s. has a cove with a bunch of rare eggs/creatures, either they've invested way too much money into an egg clicking website or they aren't really new at all.

It's true, people give LE's too easily sometimes. Oh, hello, you're new, here's a good LE... and I'm like O.o I hardly ever give anything to newbies these days, because I don't tend to give anything until they've been around for at least a week and by that time other people have usually gone and showered them in LE's already |D

There's only one person I spoil on here, she's my little sibling through cafe's sibling program. She's been going through some rough times in RL, so she hasn't been able to get on for quite a while now, so I've collected EVERY cave LE which has been released for her and I'm also keeping her pets with Tim 😊

I never got anything except my brother found a mo in the cave and gave it to me, i actually traded it for a foo,roo and florn egg!

gvantsa • 15 January 2012 at 11:00 AM

@karamel There's people who do that. Most end up admitting they are a side later on though πŸ˜‹ So it's not a bad thing unless you use it to take advantage of others or gain rare creatures, or get a name for your real self in some manner... There's one person specifically who i think took things way too far but i won't give names since I have no solid proof and it's not my business to interfere with their little fantasy.

But yes πŸ˜‹ I did not get much myself when I was new but i myself did give away a lot of LEs and rare things in the past. Because i liked doing it XD Occasionally I do get things too. People can be quite generous here at times. Not always. I've seen people give others freezes, rare travels, rare pets before (not to newbies really o.o but it happens).

@brokendragon Yup πŸ˜‹ Though some do get lucky and get rare things. But the obvious way to notice if they're a real newbie or not is to pay attention to their words when they communicate with others. if they're a seasoned egg caver they'll know how to trade and even give trading advice, make decent offers. (Or pretend to make them in hopes to get something great for something worth way less πŸ˜‹) So maybe not always obvious.. o.o

@kitty19cat Just a Mo for a Foo, Roo and Florn? 😱

@gvantsa Never thought of it. I might try it 😊
Just kidding. Lol. I would think Ian or EC's staff would figure out our IP address (which is why I talk about cfmtfm being my step-sister so much. I don't want to get banned, after all the progress I made).

I think as long as they are willing to give.

It is so hard to trade now-a-days.

Gifting helps a bit.
