Rants should not be allowed on forums.

@james-bond and @stellalunagirl

I read what @art just said and you're arguments back, forgive me if these points have already been answered.

SO, you're pretty much saying that saying "ZOMG I HATE THIS IT SUCKS!" is okay, but saying; "I don't like the Chocob because ___ and ____. Blah blah blah..." is not?

Lots of people make 'rants' as a place were they can get advice. Sometimes they aren't really "rants" but they call them that anyways.

Rants dominate the forums? Are you sure? A quick look shows that every other thread in the general discussion is related to feeding, giveaways, and saving dead coves.

Are you sure you are not overreacting to the occasional rant thread?

And really, if there are many rant threads, that means there is an issue to be looked into. People don't rant for no reason.

I think rants can be allowed.

But, there are some people who I will not name that post WAYYYY too many rants. I almost made a rant about them always ranting. LOL xD

I do think that people need to slow down on the rants though.

Deleted • 23 June 2012 at 10:53 AM

Rants are perfectly fine, I agree with @Balletninja @Art @Blackdeathkitty and @Mrsgiggles

Rants are fine, you need to get out your anger, big deal. If you hate rants so much you would hate this topic because this is pretty much a rant.

Yup, rants should be allowed, welcome to the real world, some people aren't always positive. This type of censorship is scary, especially if the suggestion is coming from kids. Where do you draw the line between constructive criticism and ranting anyway? Before you know it any 'angry criticism' is forbidden because it's labeled as a rant.

Funny... A thread where people complain about people complaining... I'd say give a good example and don't start things like this.

@james-bond
I think sometimes people need advice with some things in real life or sometimes people need to get their feelings out, but some rants are completely useless, and clog up the livepulse, which I agree should not be there.

Then again In the real world not everyone is positive, and there is freedom of speech. I also agree with @ballatninja that If you don't like them, it's your choice not to read them.

Also, to me I think it will be to difficult to stop people from having rants.

@mrsgiggles Your 1st paragraph is a paragraph for someone else to answer. I never said rants dominate the forums.

Egg cave is not the place for those kinds of issues. They shold be for councilors and friends, not an entire community of strangers.

And or those who have called this a rant, you obviously didn't read the 1st page. It's all about the difference between a 'rant' and 'discussion/suggestion'. I am suggesting that rants shouldn't be allowed.

@balletninja 5th sentance of post #24

@blackdeathkitty Are we discussing is a calm, and controled manner? Are we saying "ZOMG I HATE THIS IT SUCKS"? You could easily twist the words of "I don't like the Chocob because ___ and ____. Blah blah blah..." into "ZOMG I HATE THE CHOCOB IT SUCKS" Please don't twist words. Please read the first page. Please don't repeat same points. It's all about the difference between rants and discussions/suggestions. But then again, I already know that you won't agree with any suggestion I make.

I agree and disagree
I agree because it slightly does give eggcave a bad look when new people join, but in the end I disagree.

How about someone makes a thread for people to vent on instead of making several people making several threads, so it doesn't make a mess of the forums and people still get their "rants"

@james-bond. If you want to make a thread like that or someone else can, but that's just how I see it would solve a bit of the rant issue if it were all in one thread.

@kitty19cat
This is not a rant, we never said we hated rants, only that we disapproved of it, found it unpleasant and found no use for it. Please do not put words into our mouths or twist them

@balletninja
Again, not a rant, we are debating and are open to all ideas, but when people start bashing each other?s opinions or twisting words it will become a rant.

I know, freedom of speech? But does that justify people saying hurtful things or threatening or bullying? Everyone has the freedom/right to speak freely, BUT ALSO the RESPONSIBILITY to make sure your conduct is appropriate.

And for those who object, please do not put words into our mouths or twist them. This a discussion topic, not a rant or a place for bashing, please act accordingly.

This topic itself is a rant. You are ranting on and on about how you don't like people ranting. This means that you are conderacting yourself because of this. Second of all rants are a way to get your feelings out and to seek guidance. I have mad a rant about rants a few months ago bu now I understand how much rants can help a person. Why stop something that can help someone? That would be unfair to everyone that needs to rant. Maybe instead of not being allowed to rant, why not make a place only for rants that isn't in the forums, that would make everyone happy.

Deleted • 23 June 2012 at 8:23 PM

@james-bond Okay, fine, maybe I never agree with anything that you say. Maybe that is because you don't have ideas that I like. I have nothing against you. I just personally feel that rants are okay.

Anyways, suggestions are also meant to have people's opinions, Please don't bash me for stating mine.

@stellalunagirl Indeed. This topic is already turning uncivilized. Why are people unable to read through earlier arguments to see if their one has already been addressed, and speak in a mature manner?

Deleted • 23 June 2012 at 8:35 PM

@stellalunagirl

Honestly, I don't think that rants are just like "I HATE THE WORLD EVERYTHING SUCKS YOU SUCK I HATE YOU GO AWAY!" That's sorta what you are illustrating it to be, at least in my opinion :/

Anyways, I'm sorry if I seem rude and uncivilized, I'm not trying to be like that. I respect your opinions, but I don't believe in them so I am counter-arguing XD

@blackdeathkitty

This is a discussion/debate and your point is completely, fine, I just dislike it when people turn this into a rant/bashing topic by twisting words and bashing other opinions without fully understand/reading them.

Deleted • 23 June 2012 at 8:40 PM

@stellalunagirl

Well, maybe we should do that you can block rants... Because it seems like a lot of mixed feelings, so maybe when you are creating a rant you could click a button that would say "THIS IS A RANT" and people who don't like rants won't see them.

@dionaea You say welcome to the real world. A) This is a virtual site. B) People act differently on the internet than they do in RL. This is a suggestion, which can be used to make egg cave a better place. I think egg cave would be a better place without rants, and for some reason people think rants make egg cave a beter place. Personally, I think those people are just looking for an argument.

@linpug There are SO many other places you can get advice and let out the anger. Councillors, write a song, write a diary, put it on paper screw it up, talk to a pet, smash plates, bash a keyboard, hit the drums, scream into a pillow, for for a walk, talk to friends, family. You don't need to spread your unnecessary negativity to the entire egg cave.

It's difficult to stop people from having rants? If it was against the rules it wouldn't be difficult.

Freedom of speech? 5th sentance of post #24

@cubexline I've seen many people try that before, but most people make their own. People preferr making their own because they get more attention that way.

There should be a post where everyone's arguments and our counter-arguments are put together so people don't have to repeat themselves.

@blackdeathkitty I am not bashing you for stating your opinion. I could say the same toyou, don't bash me for posting my opinion in the first place. I won't say that though, because we're just discussing, so don't take it to the point that you cal it 'bashing'.

I think your last post idea is a great one. It should be made that you HAVE to declare that your forum is a rant if it does fit under 'rants'. If you don't declare it and is found on normal forums, you get reported. I'll put that at the top of this topic.

@hedwig68 please read post 14 on this page. And there is no such word as conderacting.

@james-bond

I just said what was on my mind like any of the others. And just because others said it doesn't mean I can't say the same thing, you can't fuss at me for saying my mind. Saying it multiple times is just helping to show how many people agree of disagree with each other.

@hedwig68 Saying it multiple times is just an inconvenience to the replier. Your points have all been answered already, and posted on the first post. If you disagree, say you disagree, but mention a different reason why.

@james-bond

So are you saying that just because someone else said it I can't speak my mind? This is a community where we can speak our mind and not be yelled at for doing so, you are trying to constrict me from doing so. I am going to stop postin on here now because this whole thing is immature and childish. I will just leave at saying this: I totally disagree with what you said. A person should be able to rant if they want to and nobody should get so upset about it.

@hedwig68

I think the word you meant was "restrict?" Please use proper grammar and vocab 😊

And this is not an immature or childish rant, if you had read above posts you'd see this is a DISCUSSION.

And many people have pulled the "freedom of speech" thing, so yeah feel free to read our counter-arguments.

@hedwig68 Sure, you're allowed to speak your mind, but there isn't any point in doing so. It doesn't achieve anything to repeat an argument. You can if you want, but it's not the way to post in a debate.

No one is yelling at you (in fact, that makes no sense, since this is over the internet). And by trying to put people here down by calling this childish and immature, just for making a suggestion, you are in fact being the immature one.

@hedwig68 Am I yelling at you? This community is also one where people twist people's words and act badly. Isn't telling me that you're not going to post here anymore because this is childish and immature, you being immature yourself? It would be much more mature to just leave if you feel so strongly about leaving. About your last sentance, which you are telling me I have the right to respond to, I think you should read the rest of this forum. Like I said, that's why you should read other people's posts instead of posting the same thing.

First of all, I think it would be fine if they were hidden so that some people could see. As long as they aren't disallowed. Some people need to rant. What if someone on here feelings honestly alone in real life? And this is their out? They deserve to have some place to feel safe.

Counsellors? I know people that this doesn't work for. And as for all the other stuff, some people really do need somewhere to talk to their friends.

Secondly, someone said no one on the internet acts how they do in real life. I'm telling you, this is exactly how I act in real life.

(Most rants are attention seeking and rude.)

In comment to this... That comment I find rude. Are you in the mind of the person? No. You're not. You have no idea how alone someone else could feel in real life.

As long as someone doesn't personally direct someone on here and call them out on something publicly and ect, I think rants are fine.

But I do agree, that it would be nice if there was a forum for them, that you could choose to hide if you wanted.

@april__

"Are you in the mind of the person? No. You're not. You have no idea how alone someone else feels in real life." I actually find that rude. How would you know if I've ever felt like that? Do you think that people who tell the world how they feel are the only ones who can feel upset?

Your second point, no one actually said "no one on the internet acts how they do in real life". It was a generalisation and NO ONE actually mentioned the words 'no one'. But think about it. The people who post rants, they are posting to a community of strangers. Would the ranter walk up to a stranger on the street and bust into a rant? You'd get arrested. Do you see what I mean?

No I don't wish to continue on posting because I am obviously getting no where. You guys are just going to continue to disappeared with me no matter what I say so why continue to post? We obviously disagree and I really am not in the mood to get into a long discussion that isn't going to get us anywhere. I spoke my mind and I am done. Call me childish and immature, I don't care. I take insults easily, I have heard them before. With that I bid you good day.
