Yes it's the end of their calendar, nothing more than that. Another thing to note is that the Mayan calendar was based on movement of celestial bodies which is why they could predict anything over such a long time. So I'd also go with the unknown space anomaly theory. To me personally, anyone who says they can give a date when the world's going to end is lying. Whatever happens, it will be a sudden worldwide disaster that NO ONE can predict. That might be a little off-topic, but as the discussion did turn to Mayans and their space calendar, and this is a space anomaly. As for the solar flare and auroras, well I don't live in a place where the auroras can be seen.

@fyret1gerI agree with you that we will probably be killed in a instant.Since although science is advancing there are many thing we need answers for and many things we are not yet aware of.As much as our knowledge grows we will probably never uncover everything about the world around us.

@onyx Just like the dinosaurs. They died in a sudden moment as noted from the fossil record. Female skeletons still in the process of giving birth, eggs half-hatched and even some critters in the middle of chomping on their dinner. Nobody yet knows how that happened, but there are many varied theories. An asteroid strike blocking out the sun seems to be a common one though, but where did this asteroid strike? Where are the pieces? As it is a rock it wouldn't decay as fast as plants or animals. How did it block the sun? That also seems to be a theory regarding the beginning of the ice age. Blocking out the sun doesn't seem to follow the sudden end factors though. I think it would take longer than a minute for the darkness to cover everything and the earth to freeze from lack of sunlight. That very well may be one of those never-answered questions. This is almost totally off-topic, but I find it funny how the Land Before Time movies seem to play with these theories, but of course the dinosaurs are still there at the end or there wouldn't be another movie.

What time ECT? xD@ladybugheart The past few days HAVE been hotter 😉 BUt also rainy...
lily- • 15 July 2012 at 5:53 PM
@redstar-fireclanHowever it went I missed it anyway, thought I do thank you for looking it up 😊Hopefully I will see those natural sky lights someday in my lifetime, but I'm guessing that day isn't going to be anytime soon 😋 Well as people started talking about the Mayan calender, it reminded me of a TV program I was watching that said that the Mayans were pretty much astronomers and they kept watch of the Stars. It said that their calender ended on the day the Earth would be in perfect alignment with the center of the Galaxy. I'm not sure about the world ending or if anything would happen during that day, but either way, I do want to be stargazing during that night.
redstar-fireclan • 15 July 2012 at 6:03 PM
@Lily-Haha. I would too. That reminds me, months ago I read about the "Milky Way Drift" or something like that, and it's when Earth is in alinement with the Galaxy's middle. People say a Black Hole's gonna get us then 😋 but it's not. We're not THAT close, but we are getting closer to the middle (where the black Monster lies.)
lily- • 15 July 2012 at 6:07 PM
@redstar-fireclanI wouldn't say A Black Hole, I would say THE Black Hole...but yeah we're definitely not that close - people overreact sometimes...

@redstar-fireclan are you kidding? Was it on the news???? I am so curious!
redstar-fireclan • 15 July 2012 at 6:59 PM
@Buubles1688Nope. I'm not kidding. And it might be on the news. I'm not sure.

Well, we are clearly still alive, and my computer hasn't fried, so I'd say we'll live another day. #otf #otf

Were electronics supposed to shut down today everywhere because of the solar flare? My power did go out today but only for like 5 minutes. There wasn't a cloud in the sky either o_o@redstar-fireclan
lily- • 16 July 2012 at 11:18 AM
@redstar-fireclanlol XDI wish it isn't cloudy on 21.12.2012.....it would just ruin the whole stargazing thing....
rileytibbles_side • 16 July 2012 at 11:32 AM
OKAY, THIS IS FOR ANYONE WHO THINK THE WORLD WILL END ON 12.21.12. THE ENTIRE REASON THIS WAS THOUGHT OF WAS BECAUSE OF THE MAYAN CALENDAR (WHICH YOU PROBABLY KNOW) HOWEVER, THE MAYANS DID NOT COUNT THE LEAP YEARS SO THE WORLD "SHOULD HAVE'' ENDED 7 MONTHS AGO. ALSO KEEP IN MIND ALL THE OTHER TIMES THEY SAID THE WORLD WILL END: Y2K, 2000, THAT TIME IN MAY LIKE 2 YEARS AGO, ETC. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN, IT IS SCIENTIFICALLY FALSE.
redstar-fireclan • 21 July 2012 at 5:45 PM
@rileytibbles_sideOh, thank goodness you said that! Now I wish my friend was here -__-
mastergemma • 21 July 2012 at 6:05 PM
And even if they were right, what would happen because *scientifically* nothing would differ from the weather and it's not like aliens or monsters would suddenly erupt from the ground/space on the exact same day and the probability of a super-volcano going off is small for that one day.I find the whole the world is going to die in 2012 idea funny XD
zafeyry • 21 July 2012 at 6:06 PM
@riley_tibblesActually, they did 😊 In the third paragraph of this article you can do the math for it and their year equals the same as ours, except theirs is more precise, 365.24976 days compared to our 365.25.Le article: http://www.exploringlifesmysteries.com/how-does-mayan-calendar-workAlso, in May, some kid in my science class said the same thing, even 7 months, so it's just a rumor. Nothing against you personally 😋
