"Why?" Sapphire said, leaping onto Cinder and pinning him down. "Why are you laughing at me?"

"Then why did you come here?" Ash asked.

Cinder smiled and said, "Because I do." That was all he said before he slipped put from under her and trotted away.

Maple sighed, "I had t-to make sure that you were g-gone. If you aren't s-soon Dinros will try and k-kill you."

Sapphire watched Cinder go in confusion. "Wait!" she called after him.

Ash rolled his eyes. "Okay, then I'll just go."

Cinder was laughing and he ran to camp. He put on a straight face and walked into camp.

Maple nodded, "And try n-not to come back e-either." She then turned around and walked away.

Moon yawned and rolled over onto her back, she quickly got up and looked around the camp. She didnt see Lupin. She walked over to Maple who was near the boundries, she noticed her shooing off a pet. Without thinking at all she walked up and stood beside Maple, "Maple, have you seen Lupin?" She asked looking into the young females eyes.

Maple nodded, "Yeah, I t-think he headed back towards c-camp. I think he found a loner o-or something because I smelled a-another scent with him."

"Oh, okay! Carry on then!" Moon said cheerfully walking off. She sniffed the air and thought for a moment. Then shook her head like crazy, 'No no no' she thought to herself.

Maple watched the Alpha Female walk away and then she said to Ash, "Y-you must go now. If y-you are seen again you will b-be killed. I can't help you again," she said and gestured for him to leave.

"Okay," Ash said, and trotted away.

Sapphire sighed and flattened her ears. "Another useless attempt at a friend... All he can do is laugh at me."

Lupin was in camp, watching the other wolves with a careful eye.

Moon looked around and seen Lupin, she trotted up to him. "Many loners. Have you noticed that?" She asked brushing her fur against him.

Cinder sighed and decided to go speak with the loner again. He heard what she said and he sighed, "I am sorry for laughing." He apologized and dipped his head.

Sapphire's ears were pricked. "What was so funny, though? Was it the way I howled?" she asked curiously.

Lupin nuzzled her. "Yes... I have noticed. We actually have a new member, Leaf. If it's okay with you, of course," he said.

Leaf was listening to Moon and Lupin speak from where she was sitting. She was pretending to be asleep but she was listening for any signs that they were a threat to her.

Cinder smiled, "No, it's just that most wolves don't just start howling for no reason."

Lupin smiled and then shook his head. "I thought that perhaps she could just be another wolf. None of our wolves in this pack are so terrible as to be the omega, right?"

"It's what I do when I'm bored, or lonely... Just a way to get my emotions out," Sapphire said.

"Well, yes of corse. But I hear that there is a new pack near the outscirts of our territory, and I just wanted to know were she came from because game is becoming scarce. Its hard to feed what wolves we have now" Moon sighed thinking about the litter of pups that died a while ago from starvation.

Cinder nodded, "Oh, it was interesting. You didn't seem to care who heard you." He said.

Lupin sighed and nodded sadly. "It won't happen this year. I'll fight twice as hard as last time. Starvation will not take our pack." He pressed his muzzle against hers.

Sapphire shook her head. "I don't really care who hears me..." she said quietly. "I've just been looking for friends."

Lupin nodded slowly. "May the luck of the guardians be with us," he whispered a prayer into the wind.

Sapphire's ears perked up. "You? A pack wolf? You would be my friend?" She smiled.

"The guardians" Moon sighed, "If they are sapposed to look after us then why have they let so many die?" She questioned. That was treson among wolves, that sometimes would get wolves executed on the spot.

Leaf walked out of camp and began to hunt.

Maple was sitting on a rock asleep. She wanted to be away from camp as long as possible. She didn't have any friends so she spent most of her time alone anyway.

"I live in a den not far off," Sapphire said, smiling. "It's a nice place."

Lupin followed Moon's gaze upwards, and sighed. He finally looked down again. "Whether or not the guardians are with us, we must continue to fight to the ends of our lives, to the ends of the pack." His eyes hardened with determination. "We can do this."

Lupin chuckled. "It won't, none of us will let it." He nuzzled Moon and then said, "Do you want to take out some members with us to go and hunt?"
