I'm sure that many of you guys might have heard about the shooting in Connecticut today... If you did not, I'll give a little summary.A guy came in an elementary school and starting shooting people.27 dead.20 kids.6 teachers. And the shooter himself died.Thats all I have to say.If you want more info, go here:http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/12/14/connecticut-school-shooting.htmlI'm really angry right now... Why do people do this? Why do they go in school and shot kids? Not just kids, people! Brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, children, mothers, fathers, friends... I just... I can't describe my anger. So what do you guys think of this?
5eggs79 • 14 December 2012 at 4:56 PM
@chapus2009 I heard about it. When I open the internet, it takes me to a news page and I read it from there.
alannah • 14 December 2012 at 5:03 PM
@chapus2009 I'm watching it on the news right now. I used to live 3 towns over.
2elle2 • 14 December 2012 at 5:07 PM
@chapus2009My mom told me about it. I wonder why people do those things..... that makes me think about our practice lockdowns at our school in a whole new way.
chapus • 14 December 2012 at 5:08 PM
@2elle2 Me too... And what are lockdowns?@alannah I see.@5eggs79 Interesting.
2elle2 • 14 December 2012 at 5:14 PM
@chapus2009At our school, we practice hiding in the classrooms or other places in the school in the case of an intruder coming in the building. The teacher locks the door and instructs us on where to be in the classroom. That way, if an uninvited visitor comes in we know what to do and where to hide.

@chapus2009I almost cried when I heard a kid explaining what happened.....The police officer told them to cover up their eyes as they walked through....That gave me the worst image of seeing my teachers and peers dead. And blood splattered everywhere. I seriously feel horrible for these families and the community
chapus • 14 December 2012 at 5:22 PM
@2elle2 Like some sort of fire escape, but against intruders... Never praticed that over here.@olimpt Me too. ;-; So many kids must be traumatized and scarred for life now... I can't imagine some of my teachers and classmates on the floor, dead... No.... T^T My mom has a friend who was victim of a shooting, but she's still alive today, since she was shot in the legs. But some of her friends died... That must be the most horrible feeling ever... and on a Friday... I imagine the kids excited to go home for the weekend... OH GOSH. *cries*
bubblez • 14 December 2012 at 5:26 PM
Another incident also happened today D:There was a stabbing spree in China, to 22 kids and the adult. >_<All the victims and their families in both the shooting and stabbing are in my prayers. I don't understand how one can hurt another, especially a little child. It's just terrible.
2elle2 • 14 December 2012 at 5:29 PM
@chapus2009Its kind-of different. During a lockdown we stay inside the building because we wouldn't be able to get out if an intruder really came in the building. During a fire escape we get out of the building because of the fire.

@chapus2009 To add on about lockdowns, there are different kinds. Most schools in the US have a lockdown system.Like, red code, blue code, black code, etc. (It varies what it's called and what the code is on where you live) But in all the schools I've been to, they've always used the colors to identify the situation. Depending on the situation. For example, if someone came on campus with a gun, we go on black code. Teachers lock the doors, turn off the lights, and hide the kids. A red code, would be more like if there was a rumor a student had a gun. The teachers would lock their doors, and classes stop. No one can enter/leave classrooms. And they would do a school wide search. Less serious situations don't need as much protection/precautions as others.

I'm watching the news right now. I'm really mad about this because, if you want to commit suicide, you can. If you want to help about your suicidal thoughts, you can do that too. If you want to kill yourself along with 26 other people... that's not ok. D:
awesomeness365 • 14 December 2012 at 5:49 PM
@chapus2009I know... it's so sad. It's near Christmas time, too... it's a horrible time for such a morbid thing to happen, but of course, any incident like this is horrible anytime. I'm keeping the staff at the school, and all of the families that had lost someone in my prayers.
chapus • 14 December 2012 at 6:05 PM
@bubblez What?! D: Today is yet another day in history... Ah yes, I've seen some books near the door with codes on them. I understand now. But we never talk about it. >_<@awesomeness365 Yah... those kids and adults will never be able to see the day again and never have a good Christmas... especially the parents who lost their children... :'(@gggaaahhh1 I agree with you. ☹️
seaangel • 14 December 2012 at 6:31 PM
@chapus2009 What's worse is that they found the shooter's father dead, and his mother worked at the school. The police are coming to a conclusion that he was aiming at his mother. But yeah, it's really sad and makes me nervous when these kind of things happen. I mean my little sis is in elementary school.
enchanted_723 • 14 December 2012 at 6:36 PM
I cried when I heard... It's on days like these that I have no faith in humanity. How do you explain to an innocent child the cruel acts of humans? Ever since the first public shooting (was that Columbine?) that was given attention on the news, killings have spiraled out of control. Everybody wants their fifteen minutes of fame and it is disgusting that people would kill others and themselves to get attention! My heart goes out to those affected by the shooting ☹️
purrclan • 14 December 2012 at 7:05 PM
@bubblezIn our school:Code Red: if someone is ON CAMPUS with the intent to harm us. (gun/knife/etc)Code Blue: if someone is in the area with the ".We might have others but those are the only ones I know.We had an actual code blue last year. There was a guy who went crazy and shot people at his workplace. He was spotted in the area and we all stayed in our classrooms for the rest of the school day.
bubblez • 14 December 2012 at 7:13 PM
@purrclan Interesting. Glad we aren't the only ones using colors xDI think yellow is someone in our area. The school I was previously at had lockdowns all the time -_- It was something different every week ;-;

I am really distraught over this. Very angry as well.I just... When is the government going to realize they need to spend more on the metal health budget?I read some great points on reddit. Less of being sad over this (they were still really sad but their points very potent) but taking more of a stance on how to really fix things like this from happening again.
faybaybay • 14 December 2012 at 7:28 PM
@chapus2009 Heard the shooter wasnt mentally stable, he went into the school to shoot his mom after shooting his dad in NJ? ( I think ) not sure, the whole thing was just horrible, I used to live about 15 mins from there, it's really scary when it hits close to home. My friend's teacher's wife ( the principal of the school ) was killed in the shooting, I also read a letter a little boy wrote to his mom before he was shot & it made me cry. Poor innocent little kids, what makes me really sad is their parents will never tuck them in at night again, send them on the school bus again, & its so close to christmas, what are they going to do with the kids presents? Parents shouldnt be burying their kindergarteners. R.I.P To everyone killed in the shooting
clayosaurusrex • 14 December 2012 at 7:38 PM
@chapus2009One of the deaths was the principal.
chapus • 14 December 2012 at 11:17 PM
@faybaybay Yeah, I heard that he shot his mom as well. Thats very sad! D: My mom has a friend (that is still alive today) that was in a shooting.@clayosaurusrex Thats new to me... ;-;
ems • 14 December 2012 at 11:58 PM
@chapus2009:'( I almost cried.Just a couple days ago, down in Clackamas, there was another shooting... I live like 10 miles from there... -shivers-This makes me feel angry, sad and scared all at once. Angry because of the stupidty of the shooter, sad because of the people dead and hurt + that the shooter is crazy or something. And scared 'cuz it was so close.I wish everbody was good. ☹️ Because then everyone could be happy...
ice • 15 December 2012 at 12:37 AM
@balletninja Agreed. I've read so many articles about people who were murdered by mentally ill people who weren't properly supervised. And the government just ignores it. My heart goes out to the families of the murdered children. We had a moment of silence for them over the announcements in school today. This tragedy could have been prevented if the government had decided to monitor mentally ill people more carefully.

@enchanted_723 Don't lose your faith in humanity...most people are good. There's a quote I've seen going around by Mr. Rogers that says:"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mothers words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world." -- Mister Rogers
