Since there are some adults here, I have a few questions o;In your opinion/experience, which is better a GED or diploma? Do you know anyone with a GED? And what are some kinds of high school alternatives? Night school/adult school/etc. And which is easier to get into college with? o-o Or it doesn't really matter...?

@bubblezMay I ask what prompts this question? Are you currently having issues with high school? I ask because I'm hoping maybe I can assist with any underlying issues.😊

@metaphor Well, it's kind of a long story ;p But, I live in a bad area, thus bad school/school system. So my dad took me out, and I basically dropped out of high school. This should have been my junior year but I didn't go. Even though I can just start school again in August and still graduate when I'm 18 (since I would have graduated at 17), I don't want to. I want to just find an alternative, so I can start college in fall of 2014 (like I would have if I stayed in school.) Which is why I'm interested in getting a GED. But if getting it is really a bad idea, I'll just go back to school.

@bubblezOh I see, I just wanted some background info is all.😊To be honest, I don't think a GED will really hurt you in the long run, but I don't personally know anyone who has gotten one, so I can't offer any solid evidence. From what I do know, though, either a high school diploma or its equivalent works and it doesn't really matter. Of course, that may depend on what you go on to do with your life. If you plan on continuing with college, it should definitely be fine. And life does happen, so don't feel bad about that. What matters is that you want to get an education, and if you seek the resources that you must to get that education, you'll be rewarded in the end either way.😊

@bubblezI am not quite certain of how the GED works... but I do recall a former classmate of mine who told me that she was going to take the GED test in her junior year of high school and then in what was supposed to be her senior year in high school, she would instead use her GED to go to a local community college and get a head-start.She did take it & I didn't see her the year after, so I'm assuming it worked out fine for her. That's all I know though... @bubblez A high school diploma is usually better than a GED. It looks better on a resume and it can mean more grants and scholarships for college, aka free money for furthering your education. I only know my sister who has GED. But she was never really interested in her education, so I am not going to blame her GED for her now poor living conditions.Alternatives to high school I am not very familiar with aside from home schooling. And as far as I know, with some colleges it can be more difficult to get into to one if you do take an alternative form of education.I read your school system isn't very good, so I am not really sure what to tell you in that regard aside form try and move to a different school district or see if there is another school any better within range of you being able to attend.

@bubblez A high school diploma is definitely better than a GED if you are planning on getting into a four-year college with scholarships. A GED is good for people who struggle in high school and just want to move on to a junior college. I would recommend sticking with high school even if the school district is bad... It quite simply looks better for college applications and even job applications if you aren't going into college.I know high school can suck especially if your school is not that great, but in the long-run graduating would be more beneficial. And anyways, it would make a great essay for scholarships - talking about the adversity you faced but still persevered and followed it through,Good luck! The next few years are going to be rough, but they will pay off in the end 😸
