@april__ He's amazing 😉
Orderedchaos • 27 May 2013 at 12:55 PM
@april__ I have seen the series and I'd recommend watching it. They've actually done a very good job with it. There are some changes, but all in all it stays pretty on course with the books. Even the changes I don't mind too much, since its George Martin who's doing it, so they just add some more depth to the story.Oh man, you got grounded from reading too? My parents had a "No books at the dinner table" rule when I was growing up. It didn't work too well, I still would read during dinner.
ems • 27 May 2013 at 12:59 PM
@april__.... I bow to you, master. XD HOW?! I can't read even close to that fast. Grounded... For... READING?! ABOMINATION! D:
april__ • 27 May 2013 at 1:03 PM
@orderedchaos I did get grounded from reading! XD I didn't watch TV, nor really go play with friends. All I did was read. That was the only thing my parents could take away frmo me that would get a reaction out of me. XD We never had family dinners, so that was never an issue. But I lost count of how many times my dad would walk into my room after I was supposed to be sleeping to catch me with a flashlight under my blankets. I'd be so into the book I would rarely hear him come down the hallway. XDAnd thanks! I think I might give it a go. I've been looking for a new series to try. @ems I'm not alone in it. I think 3% of the population can read in the range? I have a friend that can read even faster. DX
ems • 27 May 2013 at 1:20 PM
@april__O__O Um... That's the most amazing thing I've heard all day. Seriously. If I could read that fast... Woah. That's be awesome. How do you even take in information that fast?! That's like, 20 words per second. Is that even possible?
april__ • 27 May 2013 at 1:23 PM
@ems In world class reading competition, the winning contestants can only read at about 2000 words per minute. There was one guy who claimed he could read 25,000 words per minute. And read a 200 page book in 90 seconds. O_O Then he scored quite high on a reading comprehension of the book. Now if I could read that fast... http://www.readingsoft.com/ (Reading test, on speed and comprehension)And I lied. Apparnetly it's 1% of the population, not 3. XD
ems • 27 May 2013 at 1:27 PM
@april__The guy who could read 25k words per minute is probably a liar. He'd have to be reading maybe 40 words per second, which isn't possible unless you're skimming, and if you're skimming, you aren't really reading. Even 20 words per second is a stretch for not skimming.I'm taking the test! WOO.... .-.
april__ • 27 May 2013 at 1:30 PM
@ems That'd be about 400 words a second actually. Speed reading is all about the trade-off between speed and comprehension. I'm jealous of the people in those world class reading competitions. Those are crazy fast readers. I think what slows them down is turning the page. Lol! XD
ems • 27 May 2013 at 1:36 PM
@april__Which is impossible unless you aren't really reading..... Speed reading sounds stupid to me then. Comprehension is more important to me than speed. (But I can read 402 wpm with 45% comprehension. XD)Probably, but if they're reading as fast as you, or faster, I doubt they're reading. So I actually don't envy them. 😋 They don't get to enjoy what they're reading.
april__ • 27 May 2013 at 1:37 PM
@ems Luckily, I comprehend 90% of what I read according to that site when I did the test. Lol! XD It is annoying to go through books so fast. But I do find I enjoy it, and I do pause when I'm reading to let thinkgs sink in sometimes.
karamel • 28 May 2013 at 1:19 PM
Ahhh how did I miss this topic D:I took the speed reading test (http://www.readingsoft.com/) and got 1156 wpm and 100% in the comprehension. x3 I just automatically know what words to miss out/ignore. I usually skim, but read longer/less understood paragraphs a few more times or slower.I first read the Harry Potter series when I was pretty young; (the cover interested me. D: ) I've read it about 5 times now. x3 And then went on to read things like Twilight, Series of Unfortunate Events, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Mortal Instruments, His Dark Materials and the Inheritance Cycle.I'm currently reading Shatter Me (by Tahereh Mafi, more aimed at teens - kind of like a better version than Twilight xD) and I plan to finish its series and then read the Song of Ice and Fire series once my brother's finished.Never been grounded for reading, although I have stayed up several nights just to read an entire book. x3 The Harry Potter series has accompanied me many times when I was ill. 😸tl;dr: I like books.
april__ • 28 May 2013 at 1:23 PM
@karamel Yay! Another fast reader. XD I actualyl re-read the Inheritance Cycle a few weeks ago. ❤️
lavender • 28 May 2013 at 1:25 PM
@klaenmI'm a book nerd! But, unfortunately I can't be one anymore, cuz I moved to India (where I was born) and I have school from 8 in the morning to 7 in the evening so less time and there are no library's in India! But the last series I read would be the Gallagher girl series! Have you heard of that?😊
karamel • 28 May 2013 at 3:12 PM
@april__ *high-fives* x3 I prefer to pay more attention to detail rather than speed, though. The Inheritance Cycle is pretty awesome. Only read it once (just last year) and now my sister's reading it - a lot more slower, I must say. xDI read The Hunger Games a few months ago, too, but like my reading, I prefer more detail than action. Of course, I like tension, but describing it is good too. I read the first book when it came out, liked the plot but not the writing style. Read the next few books recently and it was way too tailored to teens IMO. :II've no idea how I managed to dislike HG in that way as well as Twilight, but like Shatter Me + Angel. I also read The Princess Diaries when I was 8, but that's a totally different theme. 😋
twilight_raptor • 28 May 2013 at 3:25 PM
@klaenm Im one too 😸 though i havent read the viral series .-. Currently reading the second book from the 'song of ice and fire' series and 'Threat vector' 😸 @karamel Hey! 😃
klaenm • 28 May 2013 at 5:35 PM
@lavender Amazing series! I loved it. As soon as I got a new one it was done within a day. It was brilliant. @twilight_raptor Virals is one of my favorites. I like how it's written. Another good series is the Trylle series. It's different. It's not one of the more usual topics people focus on. Like normal ones are vampires, werewolves, etc. This is based off trolls that blend into the human population. It's weird because it's very modern based.
twilight_raptor • 28 May 2013 at 5:44 PM
@klaenm the book descriptions sounds interesting 😱 I'll try it if i find it 😸 trolls! that is a rarely touched topic ^^
lavender • 28 May 2013 at 6:36 PM
@klaenmHaha! I remember I used to hide it under my pillow when my dad used to come to check if I slept and then I would sneak into the bathroom , switch on the light and read! One more series I loved, was the theodosia thorockmorton series!😊
klaenm • 28 May 2013 at 6:41 PM
@twilight_raptor I know! Trolls. I mean really. It's possibly the only real life troll book I've heard of. Plus once you read it, you'll think what if this is true?... I mean it could happen and we would never know.@lavender I always screamed like a little girl when I got a new one. xD Lol. It was brilliant. I wanted to cry at some parts, and others I just wanted to throw the book.
newlife • 28 May 2013 at 6:43 PM
@april__ You read really fast! I always skim on accident, so I try to go slower when I have enough time. But man, you should read The Infernal Devices and Mortal Insturments. They're awesome.
klaenm • 28 May 2013 at 6:44 PM
@newlife Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices are brilliant. Just saying. Lol@twilight_raptor Here's sights for the series.http://kathyreichs.com/virals/http://www.worldofamandahocking.com/trylle
newlife • 28 May 2013 at 6:50 PM
@klaenm I own all of the Infernal Devices. The last book was awesome. Now to lie in wait for the next Mortal Instruments. MEHHH ;A;
iceyfira • 28 May 2013 at 7:15 PM
@klaenm I read way too much. But school gets in the way. Have you ever read the book Quicksilver?
klaenm • 28 May 2013 at 8:09 PM
@newlife I own all Mortal Instruments(except new one), and all Infernal Devices. I've read all of them so far. Such exciting books. I cried when Jem "died"@iceyfira I don't think I have. What's it about?
newlife • 28 May 2013 at 8:19 PM
@klaenm I knew he wasn't dead. xD I have a tendacy to skip to the back of the book.
iceyfira • 28 May 2013 at 8:20 PM
@klaenm It's like, in the 1600's, about the Black Plague, the wars, making fun of the government... Natural philosophy, and complicated words.
clayosaurusrex • 28 May 2013 at 8:57 PM
@aprilI read at around 1700 wpm w/ a 91% comprehension. 😊I go through like ten 300-500 page books in a week with maybe 15 hours to read during the week.Only when I like the book, though. xDThe people I borrow books from go crazy when I return like 12 books within the same week of borrowing those books. People at school hate it when I finish a book and pull out my spare from my backpack, start it, then come into school the next day with a new book.
syndrome • 28 May 2013 at 9:02 PM
@orderedchaosI have the books, just haven't got around to reading them yet xP I have watched the first two seasons of the Tv series though.
emma1897 • 28 May 2013 at 9:15 PM
i like to read percy jackson, harry potter and stuff what do you think i will like p.s. i like fanticy and adventure I LOVE ERAGON ITS A VERY GOOD BOOK!!!!
Orderedchaos • 28 May 2013 at 9:21 PM
@pirateseaz Oh man, you gotta read them if you like the show. The books are almost always better than the movie/tv show they spawn. 😊
