The Infamous Cave Bug

Hi there,

Over the last couple of months, we've received various reports of people having problems with the Cave.

Here's how it normally plays out:

1. User selects an egg to approach at the Cave.
2. User clicks "Approach Egg" button.
3. User does not receive a pop up to see what egg they've found.
4. They are charged a "try attempt" (+1) without ever seeing the approached egg. But nothing happens.

This bug has me greatly puzzled. I've searched our code exhaustively and don't see why it's not working.

I am starting a new topic here, which shall serve as a "hub" for this bug. When this bug happens to you, please post here with:

1. Copy and paste information from whatismybrowser.com for browser diagnostics
2. The time this happened
3. What try number you were on
4. Describe exactly what happened (step-by-step, similar to what I've posted above, even if it's exactly the same problem PLEASE)
5. Did you Cave attempts increase by +1 when the pop up didn't come up? Or no?

2. Yesterday (I just now sole this topic) in morning hours, from 3-8 am ECT

4. -I select a third egg of five I can choose (I know that because I ALWAYS choosing that one).
-I clicked "Approach Egg" button.
-Nothing happens but number 6/10 was not 7/10.

5. Yes, Cave attempts increase by +1 live I said before.

This happens to me on my phone. I dont know whether this is because that my phone doesnt provide javascript [but it does so sometimes] but if this happens again on my computer in the future, then I would give all the informations step by step

eighth attempt and skipped and skipped thatand nine.

Well, I kept getting regular common eggs tillI came across an Oden, for some reason, it wasn't allowing me to press the close button and brought me to [e=1044500]Gragodan's[/e] creature profile. Then I went back to the cave after feeding my new pet and it skipped over my attempts ☹️

I click random and don't remember which one I picked. It was my ninth try I clicked on and egg and I saw the white screen that said I used all my Cave tries and try again tomorrow showing 10/10.

This happens 3 or 4 out of seven days and don't say anything but today something else happened.

Today it took an egg away seconds after getting it saying my time ran out. Might be a new bug so I am saying it here only because it happened on my third try and then on my ninth what I just wrote about it going straight to the end 10/10.

I did not see this post but will be using it a lot.

1. Firefox 21.0 and Windows XP

2. Around 6:13 PM EC time.

3. I tried it until 4, then it finally worked.

4. The problem only happens on my mom's computer (I am on it now). I click, an egg choice, then press aprouch egg, it goes up by 1 without showing what egg it was/ the popup. I reloaded the page, and it worked.

5. My attempts did go up.

It skipped attempts three four five and seven 😋

I just clicked the button and it skipped my attempts ☹️ it allowed me for my sixth and then skipped my seventh.

Sometimes it happens to me, I thought it was just my browser/internet, but I haven't been getting lately

2. Let's say around noon and in the morning is when I use the cave tries

3. 7 or so I don't remember exactly

4. Clicked the egg, then approach button, and then the white "screen" showed up the egg never. One time it said the Google Chrome cannot open this page. Also it's not really a bug but I get the creature name but the picture doesn't show.

5. Did you Cave attempts increase by +1 when the pop up didn't come up? Or no?
Yes it counted towards the attempt.

I was trying to get an egg, and I pressed on the button. I thought I had selected an egg, and it said,
Please select an egg. When I took a glance at the tries, it had gone up by one.
No popup came up except the one that said select an egg. Yes, the try increased to 3

The pop-up comes up but is completely blank and the page is already done loading so I refresh and find that I am robbed by 2 cave tries

I got a bug that was the same but I got my first egg, then the bug came. I was really hoping to get ten creatures as I am new, but my luck ran out already.

Hi guys!

Thanks for reporting in all of the information about the Cave. We've found and fixed a minor, but significant bug.

The "Steal Attempts" meter wasn't correctly synced with the system. This means that the "Steal Attempts" meter would display +1 attempts if you received an error while stealing -OR- if you didn't receive a successful pop up.

Now the Steal Attempts meter has been synced with the system and is displaying the correct number. Nobody has really been getting gipped out of their attempts; it's just that the Steal Attempts meter has been inaccurate, leading you to believe that you're out of attempts when you're really not.

Please test and post back with your results.

Just a question - by "received an error while stealing" do you mean when the egg you're viewing has already been taken or when you've reached the steal limit and it won't let you steal anymore? I'm just checking because when the latter happens it doesn't +1. (Obviously, but as I said - just checking. x3)

Around 10:12 AM ECT

Same browser capabilities as the other posts. It kept staying at 1/10 when I clicked the Get Egg button. That way, I had no clue haw many eggs I had clicked.
