Any of you guys tried archery before?
~~~
Angel watched the instructor teach some newbies the basics of archery. "Notch an arrow... like this... hold the bow with your left hand... pull back the string all the way with your right hand. Just put your pointer and index fingers on each side of the shaft... like this... look down the field and eye your target... then release!"
Going through her memory bank, Angel remembered some of the tips she had been taught the first time she tried archery,"Never retrieve arrows when others are shooting. The orange or yellow feather goes on the top..." An empty field section caught her eye. Angel walked over and quickly examined the equipment laid out for her. She slipped on the wrist guard, filled the quiver with several multicolored arrows, slipped it over her back and grabbed the bow off the stand, feeling very confident.
~~~
Those of you who never did archery before should search it up, or you can copy off my post. 😊 XD

Vanessa pulled back her lock of hair. "I suppose people get all blushing when you do that, and I don't, so that's why it's so hard for me." Speaking no more, she notched and hit. Bullseye. She thought, 'I hope Jace doesn't have a feeling of me, snipping of that lock of hair.'

"My apologies, my lady!" Zack called after Cynthia, smirking playfully.

He followed closely behind her, watching her pick up a bow and a quiver of arrows and heading for the target range. He could overhear Mr. Firch's instructions in the distance, but his attention was on his princess. He took Archery class once or twice before- that is, if he didn't run off and skip school that day, so he knew a small bit of what you should do.

His eyes caught Cynthia removing an arrow from the quiver and latching it onto the bow string to shoot. He quickly jogged up to her, grabbing the arrow in between his fingers. "Whoa there, cow- uh...princess!" He said, catching his words mid-sentence.

"You're doing it all wrong." He informed, taking the arrow from her grip and pulling it out of the bow, just so she didn't harm anyone accidentally.

"First off." He leaned down and picked up an wrist guard off a small bench, "You need to put this on."

He gently took her right hand and slipped the guard on her wrist, tying the strings together to secure it on her wrist. "And next..." He continued, letting go of her hand, "You need to have the right posture, otherwise you won't hit a single thing. Here."

He handed her the arrow and helped her pull it back an arm's length away, correcting anything wrong with her stance as he went.

"You want to have a straight line along this part and keep your hand firm, okay?" He instructed, stepping back a foot or two.

"And when you're ready, let go."

@tralala22 @kurochi-akuma @fluffamun @dramatic @jennifer My parents both were archery freaks- so I'm good. =3

The expanse of the archery field really was large- suited for royalty. Jace could already see many princesses and bodyguards practicing and getting hits- either they were show-offs, cheating (although how could one cheat in archery was unknown to Jace) or they were strangely gifted naturals. Jace shook his head. What was the point of classes when everybody already excelled at it? And what was the point of being flirtatious if the person in question wasn't responding?

Jace watched the arrow fly true with an amused smirk. "It's hard for you, hmm?" He said, smiling. "I'm sure you'll get used to it- after all, you've got me for the rest of your stay at the academy," Jace smirked once more. "I'm sure you're more than excited. If it's hard for you, well, we can work on that."

"You!" Jace turned to see a teacher reprimanding him, and gave a low grin. "Stop talking with your princess and participate in the class!"
Jace shrugged, as if participating didn't matter to him in the slightest. "Whatever you say, sir."
Jace turned back to Vanessa before moving away towards his own target. "Don't worry," he said, strangely serious. "I'll take care of you." But the moment dissolved in an instant, and Jace was smirking again, the corner of his mouth turned. "It's my job, after all."

------

"Your efforts have greatly humoured us," Cynthia said, deadpanned. "But alas, you must be excecuted for such slip- did you just call me a cow... I'm hoping that meant cowgirl." She laughed, waving away her posh speech. "I can always excecute you tomorrow."

Feeling her bow being removed from her hands, Cynthia placed her hands on her hips with a small pout and a "What are you doing?" Before sighing and letting herself be taught how to do it correctly.

Letting her wrist be taken by Zack, Cynthia frowned at the close proximity and instead of blushing studied the wrist guard and the strings now encircling her wrist. She didn't know how it was supposed to protect her, but Cynthia didn't question it, appraising the device stoically. She had no idea archery was this complicated.

Cynthia pulled back the string as her bodyguard had suggested, and stood the way she was told, hoping she was doing it right. When Zack gave the okay to let go, Cynthia let go quick, eager to lose the strain that it was giving her arms. It only took a second or so for the arrow to fly, but it ended up poking right out of the edge of the target. Cynthia groaned.

'Execute...?' Zack thought to himself, 'Don't get in this girl's way...'

A low grin appeared at the corner of his mouth.

"Did you just call me a cow?"

"Huh? What?" Zack blinked, looking over at her.

"I'm hoping that meant cowgirl." Cynthia finished.

"Ah, yea. Sorry, my lady." He replied, hoping she didn't take that nickname to heart.

When she released the arrow, he watched the arrow fly through the sky and hit the circle target in the 1 point zone. He could see the disappointment on Cynthia's face and her groan only reinforced his guess of how she was feeling.

"Hey, at least you hit it. Most people on their first try hit the grass..." He said, hoping to cheer her up.

He leaned against the side of a nearby pillar, watching Cynthia practice her shooting skills some more. He was careful to keep and eye out for Mr. Firch. If the teacher came by he would pretend like he was doing something, but as soon as the teacher went somewhere else, Zack would be back to lounging around.

'I'm not really feeling archery today.' He thought to himself, looking at the cobblestone pavement under his feet.

Normally he would skip a class he didn't feel like going to, but now he had Cynthia to keep watch over.

@marinalily When you let go of the string, the arrow rubs against your arm/wrist.
@kurochi-akuma
@tralala22 It's really hard on your first 3 tries. Especially if there's long gaps of time between your practices. 😋 And it depends on the bow, as well.

Notching the arrow, Angel looked down the lane, drew her bow, aimed and released.

Thunk! The arrow hit a direct bullseye, piercing a few inches into the canvas target. 'Wow' muttered Angel to herself,'I didn't even concentrate.' She shrugged to herself, convinced it was after years of practice that she could naturally hit a target.

Taking another arrow, she tried again and again, hitting bullseye every time. 'I wish mum and dad could see me now.'

Obsessed with archery, Angel kept on shooting until she ran out of arrows. She placed the bow back on the stand and stepped back to admire her work. All of her arrows hit inside the 10 or 9 points circles.

@tralala22 @kurochi-akuma @jennifer I know, I'm trying to be in character here. Cyn doesn't know how to do the sport. ^^;
I have been excessively pinging those I need not ping anymore. |D

"I was joking," Cynthia said with a small smile. "I don't think I could execute anyone, really. No worries."

Looking at where her arrow was embedded in the edge of the target, Cynthia smiled sadly at Zack, dissapointed at her first try partly because of all the archery prodigies around her, but heartened at his attempt to cheer her up.

"No worries," she repeated, waving off the attempts. "I don't think I would have hit it had it not been I had someone to reach me." She grinned, but quickly turned to practice shooting once more.

After many shots of hit-and-miss, the skill became more steady for the princess. Sure, she wouldn't hit the bullseye anytime soon without more practice, but she was in fact better than she was when she had first began.

Cynthia reached in the bucket for another arrow, but her hand came up with nothing. Glamcing at the empty bucket and finding her side of the field empty of those shooting, Cynthia placed her bow back onto the peg where it had been hanging, awaiting use, and walked into her side of the field, picking up the arrows that had fallen short, feeling a sense of deja vu as she remembered collecting flowers in the same way. Reaching the target with most of the arrows embedded on the outskirts of it, Cynthia yanked the remaining objects out of it, holding the arrows under her arm like kindling.

Walking back, Cynthia noticed that the field on her side was mostly empty, and intrigued, she scanned the area, wondering where Zack was, and found him standing around, not really doing anything. "Hey," she called out, then realizing that he probably didn't want attention from the teacher, jogged back and quickly deposited her arrows, going to stand with her bodyguard. "Not feeling up to class today or sonething?"

Grant saw the bodyguard that was holding the door let it go before Grant could enter Archery the door slammed in his face. 'Man that bodyguard is rough' Grant thought as he opened the door for himself. Grant looked around for the princess from earlier. Then he saw her. 'Bingo' He said to himself. Then he walked up to her. "Hello I am Grant your stupid but tough and protective bodyguard and I am so sorry for leaving you to walk alone" Grant said to the princess. 'I hope she will forgive me' Grant thought. Then he looked at the target and saw what the princess had done. "Wow. You are great at archery but can you fire three arrows at once" Grant said as he walked over to the archery equipment and picked up a bow and some arrows. He put on the wrist thingy and walked up to a target. Then he took three arrows and notched all the arrows to the bow. Then he stared at the target, took a deep breath and released. All the arrows hit Bullseye. "I now may seem like a show off but for some odd reason I can only do it once every day" Grant said. He hoped the princess wouldn't laugh at that because it was weird in a funny way but it was true.

Zack shrugged at her question, "I guess not."

He pushed himself off the concrete pillar he was leaning against, taking his hands out of his pockets once again. The Archery class was beginning to come to an end, since there were only fifteen minutes left in class time. Many of the students were cleaning up the supplies they had gotten out for their lesson and began to pack up their things to leave the archery field.

"Did you have fun?" Zack asked Cynthia, walking up to her to shorten the distance between them.

Lunch time was next on their schedule.

It was one of the very few things he enjoyed on the schedule and never skipped. (That and all the other meal times) It was a rich school for the royalty, so the food was absolutely great. Anything from succulent scallops to sizzling, juicy steak; they had it all. Sure, like any school, you had to pay for it, but it was worth every penny. Some of the snobs in the school would complain that something wasn't cooked correctly or that their meal was bland, but to an averaged guy like him, it was like eating from heaven.

He snapped himself out of his thoughts of food.

'I was probably zoning out on her again, oops.' He thought, looking down at Cynthia.

Cynthia shrugged back at Zack, with a meek; "Well at least class is over then."

She then turned around, placing the rest of her materials away and jogging to carry the bucket of arrows and her bow back to the teacher where an unlucky student was being assigned to collect them.

Going back to her bodyguard, Cynthia pondered his question, thinking about it. "I guess I did," she began. "But if that was some deep philosophical question about coming here and making friends and all that-" she paused to take a breath. "Ehh, I guess I had fun too. This place is cool." She grinned deviously. "I shall tell my guards to withhold storming the place."

Cynthia stole a glance at Zack, who seemed to not be responding. What was he thinking about? Cynthia reached up and poked his face playfully and in the same motion, waved it in front of his un focusing eyes. "Hello in there!" She called out playfully. "Anyone home?"

Zack felt a quick poke to his upper cheek and his eyes focused on a hand being waved in front of his face. His initial reaction caused him to back up from her with a slightly confused expression on his face. "Huh?" He mumbled out, "Yea, I'm here. Sorry. What were you saying?"

He looked over at her, the same confused look still on his face, before it disappeared into a more normal one.

Forcing herself not to laugh at Zack's confused state, Cynthia crossed her arms with a mock "Hmph!" As she sniffed haughtily and continued to walk with her nose held high. "How can one such as you guard one such as me, a princess, while one cannot even stay focused?"

She gave an exaggerated sigh. "I was saying," she said slowly and sarcastically, deadpanned. "About how they had discovered martians in the pool. And also how I was having an affair with-"

Cynthia crashed into someone, lurching backwards. "And here I was talking about paying attention.." she muttered, rubbing her head.

"What was that for?" Cynthia asked, slightly irked by the events. First, she had failed miserably at archery (or so she thought), then Zack stopped paying attention to her (what was he thinking about, anyways?), and now this? Cynthia groaned inwardly.

Cynthia frowned, crossing her arms.

"It's quite alright," she said a bit coldly, for she was already in a dire mood, and having the girl crash into her wasn't helping. Plus, she was another princess who Cynthia didn't know, so that meant that she had to continue to be stiff with her.

"I have not seen a guard named Donne," Cynthia said. "But rest assured, I'm sure he shall locate you soon."

Vanessa ignored what her bodyguard said and started picking up bows and arrows. Not really her favourite sport, but she was a natural at all of them. At least the ones she knew. She picked up bows and arrows, shot, bullseye. Pick, shoot, bullseye. The pattern went over and over again. She didn't notice Jace frowning at her surprisingly. And Jace being dragged away by the teacher, telling him to participate. She just shot and had fun, energetic of all sorts. 'Maybe we can make it work' she mumbled over and over again, well that's what Jake said. She took her bow and arrow. Bullseye again.

Zack followed after Cynthia, jogging at first to catch up. 'Why was she walking so quickly all of a sudden?' He thought, settling for a quick paced walk by her side. Her nose was in the air and her arms were crossed over her chest, obviously angry about him ignoring her. What he couldn't put his finger on was who she really was. One moment she was a village girl and the next she a high-class snob like all the rest of the princesses who went here. It was weird.

"Martians, eh? What did they look like?" He asked, playing along with her obvious joke and smiling while doing so.

It seemed like their conversation came to an end suddenly when another princess had slammed into Cynthia. She looked lost and panicked as she explained that her bodyguard never showed, that she was late for archery class, and that she was completely lost in this school. Zack wanted to point the rude girl in some direction and let her find her own way, but thought better of it.

"You must watch where you're going next time, princess." He said to the girl, putting on the nicest smile he could manage even though he didn't want to, "I don't know where your bodyguard could have gone off to, but I'm sure you will find him soon. How about you stay with me for the time being until we find him, alright?"

He began to realize how him and Cynthia were similar when acting. The real him was covered up by a fake gentleman who escorted and protected princesses for a living. That guy was nice, proper, and charming, but it wasn't really him. At least, it didn't feel like him...He suspected that Cynthia's fake personality was the snobby princess as well.

Listening to Zack lightly scold the other princess as well, Cynthia worked hard to keep a laugh from emerging from her mouth. That would be mean. But here they both were, being stiff, when obviously they didn't want or enjoy to be so.

Wait. Stay with them? Who said- Cynthia appraised the girl, giving her a quick once-over. She didn't make a good impression on both of them, Cynthia suspected, and they didn't even know her name. But Cynthia supposed that was Zack's job though, so she didn't say anything. At least he was in fact doing his job, unlike the guy that didn't show up for the other princess. Besides, her bodyguard would probably show up soon enough.

------

Class was ending, and students were already packing up their things, delivering them to the teacher and the poor student assigned to collect them. Jace had managed to make it through the whole class without doing anything, despite the teacher's warnings. He smirked, and watched as Vanessa kept shooting, hitting bullseye after bullseye.

"Hey, Princess," Jace called. "It's time to clean up."

Jace was, in fact, excited for the next activity, which he had peeked from a schedule lying misplaced on the floor before throwing it in the garbage (his was safely in his pocket). Lunch. No way could anyone turn down food- plus this was a school for royalty. Jace could only imagine what kind of selections they had.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Princess Excal~" Zack said, leaning forward into a perfect bow.

He stood up straight after his bow and continued talking, "Lunch is next on the schedule. Are you two ladies hungry?"

His gray eyes jumped from princess to princess, awaiting their response. He would seriously hate it if they said no. In fact, he might leave the both of them to go eat if they did do that. No one, not even the queen herself, was going to make him skip a meal.

"It's very nice to meet you, Princess Excal," Cynthia said, inclining her head just so, as she was taught. "I am Princess Cynthia, from Barbados. I'm sure that you will find the customs here just fine after a few days."

Cynthia smiled, looking over the princess. Malaysia, huh. She had never met anyone from there, but Cynthia had at least expected the royalty to be fluent in the main language of the academy, English. It slightly bothered the princess, but Cynthia decided to ignore it.

To be honest, Cynthia wasn't feeling hungry at all, although maybe a bit tired and sweaty from the sport class. "I'm not that hungry," Cynthia said honestly. "But I suppose I should eat before dinner, or I definitely will be very hungry by the time that comes around."

'Physical therapy?' Zack thought, raising an eyebrow at that particular word.

It would be impolite to ask, so he let it go.

While Excal was ecstatic at the mention of food, Cynthia seemed a little more down about it. In fact, she seemed down about everything since she ran into the other princess. 'Do I sense a hint of jealously?' He thought to himself again, smiling and shaking his head.

"I have no idea how to get around this school, to the dining area, slave!" Cynthia grinned over at him.

'Who was she calling slave?' He thought, finding it hard not to look slightly irritated.

"But would her highness prefer to wash up before lunch?" He asked Cynthia, "There are some wash rooms near the dining hall."

As much as he wanted to eat right away; women were women and they had to always be "pretty" before any kind of event. 'Ugh.'

He started walking back inside from the archery field, holding the doors open for the two princesses as they went inside. He figured they minus well get a head start on going towards the dining hall, while Cynthia made up her mind on whether she wanted to go to the wash room or not.
