I traded for a creature. The person was interested in the egg version I had, and offered me an evolved one. That's fine, no problems there.

However, the name the pet had when it entered my account has changed. The name it had is on what appears to be the creature I traded away, and is on an account that I didn't trade it too, but still has me in the recent feeds list (hence why I feel it was the pet I traded away).

So long story short, I traded EggA for CreatureB, suddenly my egg on the other account has CreatureB's name and my creature has a random name (not even the one on the egg I traded away).

So how does this happen and what can I do about it?

@minnie298a
i'm not sure what could of happened here maybe it was a bug or default i wouldn't worry about it too much though you can always change the creatures name in the own hall.

@werewolf

I kind of liked the name the creature came with, it was very well named. In a way it was the deciding factor on doing the trade to start with. Now the name has changed, in a way that I have not approved, and have no way to get the name the creature arrived on my account with back, as it is being used by another.

Just to reiterate after the creature was on my account the named changed with out me going to City hall to do so. I haven't been logged out or anything like that.

@minnie298a
maybe you should send a ticket to @ian (on his profile)

@werewolf

I've just sent a ticket off through the "Contact Us" at the bottom, including information I didn't want to put publicly like account names, creature numbers, times and the lot number of the trade. Would that do?

The thing that annoys me most is while the name played a part in me accepting the trade, if I had of been asked nicely, I probably would have let them have it back. But this way I feel it has been stolen. I've only just started to interact with the social side of this site, and this was the first time I have ventured into the trading side, so teh whole mess makes me very hesitant to do so again.

@minnie298a

Did you start the trade or did they?
What it sounds like to me is that they started the trade, waited for you to offer and for you to log off. Then they changed the name of the creature, traded it with you and changed their new creature's name to what your new creature should have been.

What a shrewd thing to do, did it happen like this?

@minnie298a Some people dont trade names, aka they change them before a trade unless the trade was decided including a name(s). Its no bug at all.

That seems to be what happened. They initiated the trade. I offered on the lot, but latter after the creature was in my cove, the name magically changed.

@poof
This was not something that was communicated to me. I offered on the lot of a creature with a name, only to have it changed after it seemed to be in my possession. I was not consulted in that they wanted to keep the name.

So to make it clearer to everyone I offered on a lot with a creature with a name like "Xxx". The trade was accepted, and the creature came to my account with the name "Xxx". A couple of hours later the name is suddenly "_jkdjasdf_". To me it seems like a bait and switch, and I really feel nothing but cheated out of what I was expecting.

@minnie298a

Usually when trading for a name you should tell them you wanted that name. Since many people they expect to trade the creature only.

But the reason it looked to still have the same name was because it is the cache version of the image. Your computer has save it that way. for it to change to the new name you must refresh the page and it will show up as _jkdjasdf_ instead of Xxx. They changed it before you make the trade but it just didn't look that way because your computer had it saved as how it was before. next time just refresh to check if the name is still on the creature 😊

@yogurt

So when I clicked on the pet after it appeared in my cove, and the profile came up showing the name it had when I offered on it, but listing me as the owner, that it was a problem at my end.

I had also told this person that I had never traded before, which makes it worse in my books.

@minnie298a
It takes a bit for names to change. You have to reload it for the new name to change to what the new one is. Same thing with travels. Or to have to wait until 3 am for resets and such. Sometimes we don't have to reload and such and it shows up automatically. There's no way someone could have changed it after it was in your cove so it was probably changed before the offer was accepted because the trade was not for the name to go with but to just swap. It happens all the time unless it is negotiated to have the name in the trade also because a lot of people like their names and would like to keep them. Them just changing the name doesn't make them a bad person since it was their name and if someone wishes to keep a name they can change it unless the two people made a deal for the name also. Ya can always rename the critter to something more appealing to you also if ya don't want a random egg. You could ask the person you traded with if they changed it beforehand also x3

@minnie298a aww sorry you aren't happy about a trade. I just accidentally accepted someone's offer and I wasn't happy about it. But a trade is a trade. ☚ī¸
Instead of looking at the name on the creature's picture it is better to look at the top of the creature's profile.

I hope you have better luck in the future. 😊

@yogurt @immortalraven

I visited the profile after receiving the pet. Once on my account the profile had me as the owner and the name as the one that was listed on the trade. While I'm not the most technological person in the world, how can that be a misunderstanding.

Also the lot was put up before 12:56 am (that's when they mailed me the link), I offered fairly quickly and it was accepted at 2:36 am.

@ian @Orderedchaos

My issue here is not that my creature currently has a crappy name. If the trade had of showed that name I wouldn't have a problem.

It is that I did not receive what I had offered on in the Trade. I offered on a lot with a creature with unique name. Hours later I had something different without changing anything. I was deceived, and feel cheated by that.

THE OTHER PERSON CREATED THE TRADE, THEY WHERE THE ONE TO DO THE ACCEPTING, yet I'm supposedly to blame. Not only that, but I was lead to believe I had something that I did not. My account showed I had received the exact creature (name and all) that I had placed the offer on. The creatures profile had me listed as the owner with the name I had placed the offer on.

It was my first time offering, there should not have been any "old" pages on my computer.

How exactly am I at fault?

I haven't really understood what you really mean and still don't. I thought I did but seems over complicated. Good luck figuring out and sorry if I bugged you...

And I don't know who blamed you because I didn't see anyone blaming you here but didn't look to see all and just skimmed.

@minnie298a The old pages come just from viewing that creature. I'm not sure but your problem seems like what I am talking about. It is common. and happens often to just about everyone I know. the person may have changed the name right before accepting. then you got the creature and the picture had not yet loaded. Even after offering the person is able to change the creatures name.

maybe it is a glitch I don't know for sure. 😊 good luck though ^^

@yogurt

I'm 99% sure I didn't view the creatures profile before the trade. I did a quick look at the traders cove to make sure the creature existed where they where talking to me from. I only looked half way through the page with the wall and saw that they did possess the advertised creature before even agreeing to the trade.

@immortalraven and anyone else basically what happened:
> A user (who just for my sake shall now be User X), contacted me about trading my unfrozen retired egg, for their evolved star creature of the same species.
> I agreed to this, names where never discussed.
> User X created the trade that featured the starred creature with a name formatted like Xxx (not the real name, but you get the drift).
> They mailed me the link, I clicked it and offered the pet I was supposed to for Xxx.
> Then either, the lot was altered (from what I have gathered from this board) OR was not displaying correctly from the start, keeping in mind that it was the first time I had ever offered on a lot, so the first time I had ventured into that area.
> The "new" lot was accepted.
> Xxx the starred creature was listed in my cove.
> I clicked on the creature, I looked at it's profile, I may have even feed it. The profile stated that Xxx the starred creature, belong to me, Minnie298a.
> A little while later I went go to change the name of another pet as a favour to a different person, only to discover a strange name in the City Hall drop down list.
> I searched my cove and I found that Xxx's name had suddenly changed (to a format of -XXXXX-) with out any prior knowledge of mine.
> The name Xxx is now on the pet I traded away.

So this then means that I ended up with a pet I did not offer on, so did not agree to. As I said above the other user created the trade. I did not accidentally accept something. I offered on one thing and ended up with something different.

And now I basically have to suck it up and accept it as "no rules where broken" (response to the ticket) or as others had stated on here the problem was with "old" pages, which is something I should have fixed myself (theerfore making it my fault).

@minnie298a To view the creature I meant to be on a page where that creature is present. so even if you didn't scroll through the persons cove it is still saved to your computer if you went on their page or when you were offering it may have been the name Xxx and you saw it but then they changed it and the old picture was still there later on.

I don't know what happened but this is just how the old picture thing works. xD

@minnie298a

According to our logs the name of the starred Beweg was changed to -BEWEGS- shortly before being traded to you. Yvurt's name was changed to Pin moments after being traded onto _black3333_'s account and then placed in their storage account. Your account was in no way compromised.

Technically, creature names can be changed AT ANY TIME from the Town Hall. It's always operated like this. However, in terms of a trade deal, this is a shady thing to do, I agree. But there's technically no rules that were broken.

If you felt like the creature image was incorrectly cached and was displaying an incorrect name in the lot, always check the creature's profile at the eggcave.com/egg/#EGGID# URL (check the header text, because that's not the cached image) for the truest stats/data.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you. Renaming while trading is allowed. Topic closed.
