Personally, I've been around for years (16 and counting). The last couple I've had time to feed and feed and feed . Also I find feeding the most reliable way to make ec (and find it soothing).

But basically, time and effort.

In regards to the Thief Shop, it is a gamble and an ec sink. From experience, you will lose more often than you win. So if there is a creature from here you desire, it may be easier and cheaper to find one for trade.
