Shimon was confused. Standing there outside the building that was being ravenously devoured by flames, falling apart and to pieces from within... He'd promised himself to only let the woman in his care down when he'd delivered her to safety... and the scene before them, teeming with quarreling Quarantined gang members and the ringing sound of gunshots, hardly fit that description. In fact in this situation, nowhere nearby looked safe, and he was at a stunned loss for what to do.
However Shimon was quickly shaken from his stupor as person in his arms stayed anything but still. On hearing her rasped-out command, he looked down, recognized the symptoms of sickness in Indigo and so hastened to obey. Setting the girl down quickly but with extreme care, Shimon looked over her anxiously for signs of affliction- and sure enough, he spotted more than enough cause for concern, from the way she was hunched over and straining to breathe to the leg wound he'd noticed earlier, in his own miserable state.
The first thing he could think to do was fumble with the mask over her mouth, assuming it was impeding her breathing, however Shimon's big hands were too clumsy, and his mind too scared of causing the woman further damage to operate steadily. Towering over her in a frozen panic, his heavily dilated hazel eyes stared down, in that moment clearly wanting to help but proving absolutely useless.
"I-Indy, are you..." he barely managed more than a hoarse half-sentence.

Indigo frantically undid the fastenings of the mask, her hands shaking as she gagged again.

Finally pulling it free, she threw it off to the side, stumbled away into some nearby bushes and threw up.

It seemed silly to worry about Shimon seeing her, with gunfire and chaos all around them, but she did have a foolish sense of pride that was already hurting as it was. She'd gotten away without assistance for months and now...

She looked uneasily at her leg. Going off on her own was implausible at best... and downright foolish...

Spitting on the ground and wiping her mouth, she walked back shakily.

"My apologies..." she said, avoiding eye contact. "Today hasn't been a good day for me..."

While she retched, he took the opportunity to expel what he'd inhaled from his lungs, coughing badly until it was gone. Then he breathed a little easier, though the fog had yet to completely depart from his head.
Shimon looked relieved as Indigo returned from her visit to the scrawny dry bushes looking marginally improved from before, walking and well able to speak. Still not great, but like, better? Than he had momentarily feared? Yeah.
He couldn't help but splutter a surprised kind of laugh at what she said next. "I don't think anyone here's having a good day." Shimon gestured at the intra-gang warfare taking place all around them, as the Quarantined shouted accusations at each other, and when that failed to compete with all the noise of the fire and chaos, resorted to throwing punches and worse. From a slight distance like this, the scene almost had a comedic edge- the bad guys were beating themselves up while their place burned down around them- and some of that could be heard in Shimon's tone. "I mean, look around."
His slight smirk turned abruptly to an unpleasant grimace as the show got uncomfortably close, one large muscled man pushing another roughly until the second sprawled over, hand hitting the dirt just a meter or two away from Shimon's foot. Still, everyone here was so occupied that none had showed interest in dragging the two bystander mutants into the fray, and that was good. It felt weird to stand on the edge of conflict, yet remain uninvolved... but considering the nature of those fighting... he saw really no reason to do anything about it.
It was only when one guy went staggering back from a punch, nearly clipping Shimon on the shoulder if he hadn't managed to side-step it, that Shimon realized the true danger of the situation they were in. For him, personally. If he lost control of his temper and raged-out here, in a warzone like this, he'd be lucky to crawl out bruised and bleeding, if he ever got out at all. Hastily, Shimon turned away from the sight, terrified of how it might affect him, though it hadn't already. This set his sights straight back on the fiercely aflame building before him.
This definitely wasn't a good place to linger for any reason.
He spoke lowly to Indigo; "The sooner you get out of here the better. If you can avoid that..." he shoved another hand back in the direction of the riot behind him, still refusing to look. But he'd seen it was very centered, and with a little luck it should be possible to sneak around it and get out, while everyone else was so very preoccupied. "Even better, but..." his mutter trailed off as he glowered at the smoldering wood in front of him, glaring every bit as intensely as it smoked at him.
Shimon knew there were still desperate people trapped inside that fast-deteriorating building. People who weren't guilty of joining a gang and kidnapping people, either.
He knew he had to go back inside. And his feet moved automatically.

Indigo watched as he ran back into the building.

"Hey! You really shouldn't..."

But he was already gone. She sighed, staring after him for a brief moment, before shaking her head and limping in the opposite direction.

Even if she'd wanted to, there was no way she could fight on her bad leg. She felt a pang of guilt for abandoning Shimon, but what could she do to help?

She needed to get back to town and find a doctor... Shimon could handle himself...

Arlo dismounted Fang's horse as the other approached and informed him of his findings--or lack thereof. He handed the man his horse's reins and ran a hand through his silver hair as he looked up at the flames that clawed at the night sky. He hadn't had a lot of time to get to know them, but Indigo and Shimon seemed like strong individuals, so he felt it was likely that they would make it out, but he knew that the Indigo was injured, and he did't figure she could get far if she was alone... The more he thought about it, the less he felt at ease waiting out here.

"You can leave if it suits you," he murmured, "but I can't abandon them." With that, Arlo darted back toward the fray, staying close to the outer walls so he could avoid contact with the center-stage brawl that was going down. Scanning all the faces he saw in the fight, thankfully he didn't find anyone familiar, and he was sure Shimon's towering figure would have stood out to him if he was among them anyway, had he been there.

As he got closer to the burning building, he spotted a large figure rushing into the flames, and by his size he knew who it was. He shifted forward to get closer, and he heard Indigo make an attempt to turn him around, but she didn't seem to be in the condition to do anything about Shimon's heroics, though he was glad to see she'd managed to remove the metal mask they had previously fastened onto her face. Arlo didn't disagree with the man's way of thinking, but there was little anyone would be able to do for those trapped inside at this point, even if Shimon was stronger than most. He turned to Indigo, knowing it wasn't safe to leave her alone. "Let's get you out of this place," he said, wasting no time to support her weight so she could walk easier.

Indigo was surprised to see a familiar face suddenly appear in the chaos. She flinched slightly as he moved to help her, but quickly realized that she didn't have much of a choice...

"I need to get to a doctor..." she said, coughing. Her lungs were still annoyingly irritated from the smoke. "Once we get there, you can leave me. I'll be fine on my own after that."
