You're living your life when you begin to have strange dreams. At first you dismiss these as just any other dream except that you remember them better than any other dream you've had. Over time they grow stronger and more detailed, harder to ignore and feel more like memories than dreams. In these dreams/memories you live in a different world, you may not even be human and sometimes have powers and abilities that can not exist in the real world.

With these dreams comes a need to find answers, especially once traits that appear in these dreams begin to manifest outside of sleeping. Your physical appearance changes only to revert back to normal, you can do things that are impossible only for the power to fade in minutes. With these strange changes you feel a gentle pull toward the forest outside of the city.

In your search for answers you eventually follow this pull into the forest. There you discover a strange tear in reality. Seeing no other way to gain the answers you need you enter the tear. On the other side (the tear closes behind you) you find yourself in another world, a world unlike the Earth you came from. Remnants of other worlds litter the landscape, ruined castles sit next to the shattered remains of starships and everything in between. Creatures of every kind roam the landscape and there is evidence that something (or things) intelligent calls this world home.

With no way back you must go forward. The changes that started occurring back on Earth are now coming faster and are becoming permanent. You must now explore and try to survive this new world hoping to find answers as to what has happened to you and why.

-----

This RP starts with everyone on Earth. Everyone has had at least one dream/memory at this point.

Ba-bump, ba-bump, ba-bump.

Callisto's heart is pounding in their ears. They're staring at their hands--paws?

They're holding a clipboard and pen. They don't recognize anything on the paper, not a single character, but they know what it means. Everything around them is moving, quick, quick quick. Something soft, yet firm, grasps at their shoulder.

"Callisto." They flinch, turning.

Ba-bump, ba-bump, ba-bump.

"Callisto, we need to--"

Before they can catch the features of the other being through their thick-rimmed glasses, Callisto is bolting straight up in their bed. Soft sunlight drifts in through their window and between the curtains, washing their room in a gentle golden glow. Their pounding heart and shuddering breaths contrast the peaceful atmosphere, and shaking hands run along each other anxiously as Callisto whips to the left, their eyes searching for their glasses. A hand darts out to snatch them from the nightstand, fumbling for few long moments to get them onto their face.

Callisto pauses.

Part of them doesn't want to look. They look anyways, down at their hands, staring at the reddening skin as they wring their hands over, and over, and over. Maybe today will be normal. Maybe they won't see the flashes of white fur and retractable claws and the soft dark pads of the paws.

Slowly, their shallow breaths become fuller, slower. Calmer.

That's the fifth nightmare this week. Callisto refers to them as nightmares, not dreams, because the experience always leaves them feeling nauseous and oddly anxious for the rest of the day. Their sleep schedule had been rather normal up until a month or so ago, but now? They're afraid to go to bed. Recently, the nightmares have been getting worse. More vivid. They almost felt like... Memories.

It's really been messing with Callisto--they're half convinced that they're starting to go crazy. And, well...

Going insane isn't exactly something you want to talk to anyone about.

Callisto pushes their way out from under their blankets and starts to get dressed for the day, running a still-quivering hand through their hair.

"... 's just a dream. Just a dream."

They slide into jeans and a plain white t-shirt, and leave the room without looking in the mirror. The mirror had been making them look different too, lately. Callisto tries not to think about the sharp smile and arctic fur as they head downstairs.

Rather than stay with their parents for breakfast, Callisto lies (while desperately wringing their hands and shifting on their feet) and says they're meeting with a friend--Felix--for breakfast at the cafe downtown. Their dad tells them to be careful, and Callisto practically bolts out the door.

Not quite as petrified as when they woke up, but still very much on edge, Callisto continues to wring their hands as they walk with a brisk pace towards the MAX station. If they can just... Get away... Maybe if they get far enough...

Callisto makes the mistake of glancing down to where their hands should be.

They stop in the middle of the sidewalk, staring at the furry appendages with what must be a horrified expression, because they can feel several pairs of passing eyes looking, staring. But they can't look away.

This is the ninth time they've seen the paws this week.

Del

Del flopped down on her bed, exhausted after a long day of lab work and one instance of spectacular computer failure that had everyone scrambling and, for some reason, left Del feeling slightly guilty. At least tomorrow was Saturday and she could sleep in a little. Glancing up at her alarm clock Del groaned and buried her face in her pillow. Toshra's band starting playing half and hour ago and Del had forgotten all about it. Earlier in the week she'd been looking forward to the show but now she didn't think she could stand the pounding of heavy metal music. Toshra would understand if she didn't show up.

After switching off the lights Del curled up under the blankets and was almost instantly asleep.

Del wasn't surprised when she dreamed of stars, her dreams often involved space, but this one felt different. As the scene resolved around her she realized that she was looking at a holographic projection of a section of space. She wanted to lean in closer, get a better look at the systems when someone began to speak.

"We'll need to be careful when we pass through this area here. Empire ships are being spotted a little too frequently for my taste." A section of the map lit up. Del's head turned to look at the speaker even though she wanted to study the map more. She didn't seem to have the control she normally had in dreams.

"We won't be able to take a short cut through Nye-space," the speaker, a dark-skinned woman with the air of a leader, sent Del a stern look, "That area is too tricky and I don't want to pop out in the middle of a star."

Del felt her hands raise of their on volition as she spoke, "I don't want to end up star fuel either. But," and now a hand dropped toward the map. As her hand passed through it she felt a tingle run up her arm and a strange...taste? There was a tickle at the back of her mind, something about this was familiar but she couldn't place it.

Before she had time to think on it any further she was jolted awake. Over her loomed a pale figure with red eyes. Del shrieked then hit Toshra with her pillow.

"Dang it Tosh, take off your stage makeup next time. You scared me half to death. What'd ya wake me for anyway." She grumbled.

Toshra grinned. "You were talking in your sleep, something about tasty stars or something like that. Plus its almost 8:30, you've got time enough to get down to the coffee shop and see that one barista." She winked.

Del groaned again. Say one thing about someone being cute and Tosh goes and tries to set her up. Well, now that she was awake coffee did sound like a great idea.

"And I suppose you're coming with me?"

"Nope. Just got home. Its off to bed for me." Toshra winked at her.

Del rolled her eyes at her roommate. "I swear, sometimes I think dressing like a vampire is turning you into one."

As Del left the apartment her mind went back to the dream. It wasn't the first dream like that, one the felt so familiar and where she had no control. She flexed her hand remembering the strange tingle and realizing that she had felt it before, in the lab yesterday right before the computers had started crashing and flipping out. The thought that they were connected flashed through her mind again, but she banished it. She couldn't affect computers like that, no one could. But the seed of doubt in her mind continued to plague her as she walked.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Xanlea
Xanlea awoke covered in sweat and shaking. This dream was like the others, strange creatures and faces but all familiar somehow. And in the center of it all was him, but he was not himself. Xanlea dashed cold water on his face in an attempt to banished the dream and his thoughts. It worked until he looked in the mirror.
He sighed in relief. Nothing. He was himself. He cautiously ran his fingers through his hair. Again nothing. He sighed again. Yesterday there had been horns, large heavy things that curved back over his head before curling upwards. That one he couldn't ignore or write off as stress or exhaustion. Before that had been patches of what looked like fur or he stumbled as his knees seemed to bend the wrong way.
Before long Xanlea was out the door and on his way to the hospital. After a few blocks he slowed down as people around him stopped to look at something. Out of curiosity, he glanced in the direction the people around him were looking and stopped dead in his tracks. Some kid was staring at their hands, hands that were covered in what looked like fur.
Xanlea stood not sure how to respond, wanting to help the kid but knowing how crazy he would sound. A sudden feeling of horror froze him as he felt the tips of claws dig into his palms. Glancing down he saw his own hands had taken on a furry cast and claws sprouted from his fingertips. Shoving his hands in his pockets he turned and, without knowing where he was going, began to walk quickly away needing to get away from the crowd of people.
Muse rolled off the couch in their living room, falling onto the pile of pillows they had tossed down there earlier that week. She needed to stop sleeping on the couch, too often had nightmares plagued their dreams since they stopped sleeping on their own bed.
She sat up, trying to rub away the image of the glowing orange that lit up her mirror reflections as she took a look at the clock on the wall.
Muse stood, realizing she might end up late and promptly sprinted to get dressed, making sure they put on their sneakers before sprinting out the door, with hardly a glance at the faintly pointed ears in their own reflection. They paused for a second, almost running into a crowd of people as they clustered around someone confused at the paws they now had.
Cosplayers are taking things a bit far now aren't they? Muse thought as they skirted around the outer edges of the crowd before running across the sidewalk again.
They slowed to a stop as they passed a storefront that advertised their orange eyes, not brown but orange, in the reflection that grinned back at her. Muse rubbed her eyes again, blinking a few times as her eyes faded back to their unusual orangeish brown color. Sighing, they turned away before checking their watch and letting out a quiet gasp.
I'm gonna be beyond late, hope the kids don't mind that much. she thought as she turned the closest corner and took a short cut.
Here goes... @Orderedchaos @thebrokenvibe @ems @icymuffin
There was nothing but the gentle song of the birds and the quiet whoosh of the wind.
She was zoomed out in third person, viewing a black cat with the exact same necklace as her.
Katherine reached out with her hand, causing one of the cats paws to take a step forward as well. She had this dream before, but she was still surprised to see the paws move with her.
She reached out her other hand, and the paws took another step forward. She crouched down and the cat lowered its body to hunting position.
Katherine's body suddenly lost control of itself. A dark shape pounced, and another larger cat bared her fangs at the shadow.
Katherine crouched down, whimpering, and she saw the older cat pounce at the shadow, only to be torn apart. The shadow roared as it emerged victorious, and Katherine ran, right into-
Katherine woke up, heart pounding. That dream had been happening for weeks now, every time with a shred of new information. But this was the first time she saw the shadow.
Light shined on her face, and she got up, ignoring the cat sleeping in the nook of her leg. It meowed in protest and got up, padding away.
Katherine smiled apologetically, "Sorry 'bout that," she whispered to the cat, petting it. A faint siren of police cars blared in the distance, but she wasn't too worried about that. The never usually found her anyways.
She looked at her hands- No wait, paws... Katherine panicked and rubbed her eyes, but when she looked again, there were just hands. "Don't worry, Katherine," she murmured to herself, "Just a hallucination, that's all..."
But she was worried. Ever since the dreams started, sometimes when she combed her hair she would feel pointed ears, and sometimes her nails would be turned into claws.
She sat on the concrete, and then the sirens started blaring louder. Red lights shone in the distance. Before she knew it, a gun was aimed at her, and the snarling face of a police said "Don't move."
Katherine lay limp as the cops put cuffs on her wrists. They were too big to be tight, but small enough to be agitating. The cops put her in the car, and Katherine fingered her small golden bell.
And that's when all chaos broke out.
Light streamed in from the distance, past memories floated in Katherines' mind: Five year old Katherine crying, her house burnt to ashes. Ten year old Katherine stealing a noodle bowl from an unsuspecting customer in a restaurant.
And Katherine ran. Right into the city. A person with paws was staring at them as a crowd surrounding her, not paying attention to her confused face. "Oh no..." she muttered as she felt her own features begin to change.
Pointed ears spouted out of her hair. Her whiskers blew wildly in the wind. Her nails slowly sharpened to claws and her jacket started to line itself with fur. Paws where her hands would be.
Katherine tried to run, but it was too late: People had already seen her transformation. Katherine started running straight into the alleyway, tears streaking from her face. Why, oh why, couldn't she just live a normal life?
Kinda sleepy too, so... :'D
---
The empty coffee mugs made a loud clink as one collided into the other on the desk. Augustas slumped deeper into his chair and groaned. Finally. He finally finished the article. The agency was a column short for their weekly publishing and sent a request his way. Urgent! Have it in by 7! How they managed to be so terribly organized, he’d never understand. But it was just filler stuff this time, as it usually was. It should only take him a couple hours of solid work to make a decent piece.
Yet, this time, it took Augustas all the way through the night, and it was a close call too. His mind had kept wandering back to the dreams he had been having lately, of places he’d never imagined before or read about. Of traveling through space and meeting so many unusual creatures. For dreams, they felt so real. Like someone had really convinced him he was someone else, living another life.
Sunlight was starting to brighten the sky slightly as he could see through the window just above his desk. Only one star remained in the sky, and it was fading fast. Augustas could hear his flatmates shuffling about. People were starting to wake up he realized. Hopefully, there was still a chance to get some sleep before the rest of the city woke up and turned into a deafening roar.
Augustas pulled himself out of the chair, sore from sitting in front of a computer all night and managed to stumble down the hallway and into the bathroom.
Could you even see that many stars in the city? wondering to himself as he splashed water onto his face. He had never really noticed. There were always so many stars filling the sky in the dreams. And scars too.
Augustus could feel the scars on his face even now.
What?
He looked up at the mirror hanging above the basin. In the dim glow of the morning, he could see a tired face staring back at him with the same look of horror. His face, yet not quite. It had his features all right, but it looked so …disheveled. Their head was marked with scars, their hair untidy and grown out slightly longer than his. The arms and hands held out aimlessly in the reflection appeared to be scarred as well. They reached up to touch the face in the reflection.
A loud knock on the wall beside him knocked him out of his thoughts. A flatmate of his appeared at the door, greeting him with a loud yawn.
“Hey, princess, you done with the bathroom?” He paused and gestured at Augustas’ face. “Uh, what’s up with the…”
Christ, what kind of excuse could I possibly give for this? Augustas felt his heart pounding. He didn’t want to have to deal with this right now.
Glancing back at the mirror, to his surprise and relief he found it was just his face looking back at him. Off to the side, Augustas could see an expression of pure confusion spreading on his flatmate’s face as he looked at the mirror too.
“I coulda sworn there were scars all over a moment ago…” he mumbled, rubbing his eyes.
“You’re still half asleep, man.” Augustas tried to laugh it off.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Still waiting for the bathroom, princess.” His flatmate seemed satisfied with Augustas’ answer. Bless the stars.
Augustas hurried back to his room, only pausing in front of a mirror for a moment to check once more. The same face as ever. What was that all about? It must have been the all-nighter, surely. And the coffee. Yeah. That’s right. Yet, he couldn’t shake the feeling away. Even though he felt shocked, there was also the strange feeling of being unsurprised to see that scarred face. Why was that?
He sighed and laid down on his couch. Still might have been the coffee. Anyhow, that could be dealt with later. First, sleep, much-needed sleep. Through the cracked-open window, he could already hear the streets beginning to fill up with cars. A cat yowled in a nearby alley and sirens went off in the distance. The ticking of a clock filled the room. Good ole city sounds, Augustas thought to himself as he begun to fall asleep and smiled.
~
The man, no… He stood at the edge of the lake, looking out over the vast water mirror. The pink sky reflected in the water went on for what looked like could be years in all directions, its clouds shifting constantly and at a speed too fast for the eye to keep up with. The creature standing beside him started to tell him the story about their planet.
Their planet too was once covered in vast oceans, it said, but in the past few decades, they had begun to dry up. All that was left were…
Toshra
An aching emptiness. Overwhelming guilt. The sounds of battle and the smell of smoke.
"My fault. This is all because of me." Guilt choked Toshra's voice as tears fought free from her eyes.
"No, its not your fault."
"You're not responsible for what he does."
Voices spoke on top of each other, reassuring her. The voices were familiar but she didn't know from where. A hand, larger with long fingers, took her hand.
"This is not your fault." One of the voices, a male, spoke again, squeezing her hand as he spoke.
Toshra awoke, her face pressed against her damp pillow. Rubbing at her eyes she felt tears on her cheeks.
"Well that's new." Toshra wiped her cheeks with the corner of her blanket.
It took a long shower but Toshra was finally able to push the disturbing dream out of her thoughts. She hummed as she fixed a sandwich for breakfastlunch, fingers moving in an unconscious pattern to the tune. As she reached her hand out towards the cabinet she felt a pulse of energy run down her arm, 2 pink spheres of energy zipped out from her fingertips impacting the cabinet door burning two circles into the wood.
In shock Toshra dropped the jar of jelly in her other hand. The sound of it shattering on the floor jolted her out of her stunned shock.
"AAAH! Oh crap!" Toshra snatched up the roll of paper towels and began to carefully clean up the sticky shards of broken glass, all the while trying not to think about the two perfect circles burned into the cabinet and what they meant in conjunction with her dream.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Xanlea

Xanlea's hurried pace slowed as felt the claws subside. Glancing around he noticed that he was near the library. Making a snap decision he decided to not to go into work and risk sprouting fur or whatever while in the middle of surgery or the ER and entered the library instead.

Wandering to the back of the stacks Xanlea plopped down into his favorite reading corner, dropped his head into his hands and took several deep, calming breaths. This day was not off to a good start. Whatever was happening was starting to happen more frequently and he didn't know if there was anything he could do about it.

As Xanlea calmed his nerves he felt an odd sensation in his chest. It wasn't quite physical but he could only describe it as slight tugging sensation. He tried to focus on it but the feeling eluded him. Letting his concentration drift he felt the tug again. Again he focused on it and again it slipped through his grasp.

"It's too early in the day for this nonsense." He muttered as he stood. He snorted humorlessly. "There's no good time for this frost-taken nonsense." Standing Xanlea left the library heading towards his favorite brewpub intent on trying to put his mind at ease with large amounts of fried foods.

Katherine ran right into the alleyway, heart beating. The memory was still there. Katherine wanted to believe it was all a figment of her imagination, but she knew it was something other then that.

Katherine lay down on the concrete, and the cat who was sleeping with Katherine earlier purred softly. Katherine petted it, and murmured, "I wish I were you... You don't need to go through all this trouble... This weirdness..."

The cat looked at Katherine with a confused expression, and began toying with Katherine's golden bell. Katherine pushed the cat aside. "Don't play with that.... You'll probably trigger another... One of those light shows."

Katherine petted the cat again, and realized something: This cat felt like it was pulling Katherine somewhere, yet it was doing nothing to her.

Katherine was whooshed into another one of her visions, which had been happening frequently since she dreamt of the shadow.
~~~~
Katherine was holding the necklace that she always wore. The jingly bell was glowing a golden aura. She touched it lightly, and Katherine screamed. It felt like nothing, pure nothingness.
It was simply as if Katherine's essence didn't exist. She saw nothing, she felt nothing, she didn't hear anything, nor smell anything.
~~~~
Katherine snapped back into reality, dazed, confused, and overall a bit dizzy. The cat from before looked at her understandably, and moved on, no longer purring.

Katherine bit her lip, and headed into the city once again. She needed some information on herself, all these weird changes happening to her.

When Callisto blinks, the fur and the paws disappear from sight. Still, though, it's the ninth time. The ninth time. Unable to push down the hysteria and anxiety rising in their chest and gripping at their lungs, Callisto bolts down the street. They weave around people clumsily until they get to their destination--the cafe on the corner. They needed their morning caffeine fix, after all.

The open the door a little roughly, the bells on the door jangling loud enough to make them flinch. Their movements are disjointed, twitchy, timid. A hand--a hand, not a paw--is stuffed into their pants pocket to search for money. Eyes flicker to look at the menu board hanging behind the barista as they step inside, letting the door close gently behind them.

It's a tough battle against the knot in their stomach, but Callisto manages to get the guts to approach the barista, money in hand, and order. Their hands continue to tremble as they hand over their money, and the barista almost looks as though he wants to ask if they're alright.

He doesn't, and Callisto is grateful for it.

Within a few minutes, they're sitting in the back corner of the cafe with their warm drink, sipping at it passively and pointedly avoiding looking at any part of themself. All the coffee does is make them more jittery, more nervous, but at least they're a little more awake. Nightmares tend to fade the further you get from sleep, from Callisto's experience, but... These ones haven't. Callisto remembers each one vividly, as if they'd actually occurred.

Of course, that is very impossible. Callisto gets through about half of their coffee before becoming too disquieted to sit still any longer. Though it'd be for the best to toss the coffee on their way out, Callisto only pauses beside the trashcan before exiting the cafe, the warm paper cup held close to their chest. They're not any calmer, but they look calmer, and that must count for something. Again, they set off on a brisk pace, this time for the library. Perhaps, if they looked hard enough, they might find some answers. Callisto couldn't really shake the feeling that they'd be either left with nothing or something they really, really wouldn't like, but curiosity was getting the best of them.

They push through the door gently, much less desperately than when they'd entered the cafe, and step inside the library quietly. They look lost and hesitant, but pace towards the Mythology section.

Callie's visions felt surreal. She was unable to recall any of them, yet they were so vivid, unlike any other visions. Usually she had visions of farfetched things. They knew that they were just dreaming, but this didn't feel like one.

She saw nothing but soft yellow lights glowing in front of her.

Like stars, she thought. Like stars.

They felt half empty for some reason, like they lacked a soul. This was the first time in her life that her soul was empty. She usually was very cold to others, but she was never with a frozen heart.

Callie saw a flash of light, and suddenly found herself in her bed. The dream felt so unusual, as if it was real.

"Ha... Probably just me dreaming about my books..." They nervously giggled at their remark, until it gradually faded away.

They wanted the thought in their head to fade, but they can remember the glowing "stars" in their head, like the entire image was somehow imprinted in her brain.

Callie examined her entire room. One part of her room was a mahogany bookshelf with a reasonable amount of books lined up in a somewhat sloppy way. She never had the motivation to fix her so-called mini-library.
Another corner was a desk nearby, with some writing instruments and an open book. There is a lamp turned off that's pointing towards it.

But she doesn't have time to examine the corners of her room. She needed some fresh air, and another introvert place that isn't her room. Callie grabbed their sring snake ring and put it on. They put on their usual clothing, and prepared to meet the dangers of the outside world.
~~~~
Callie was introduced by people walking by as soon as they step foot on the sidewalk.
"Hmph." They muttered, as they ignore the passersby and head on mindlessly into the city streets. They thought about getting books for their bookshelf, as they only have a few books to read. Fourteen books was too little for Callie; although a fifteenth book would be nice.
They then found somebody pacing towards the Mythology section of the place, as if they were looking for something.
"Huh?" She asked herself, but had no reason to be suspicious.
Callie then headed to the same section that the strange person bolted towards, hoping that any books in there were of interest.
Muse paused as she reached the school, breathing in relief that the kids had thought ahead and were all stretching outside the band room. She grinned as she opened the gate and jogged over.
"Sorry for being late today, I ran into a large crowd on the way and narrowly avoided becoming part of a mob." They joked, as they unlocked the door for practice "That and I had to run here, all the way across town." She added as one of the kids started to say something in retaliation.
Muse simply shook their head and raised a dismissive hand. They shrugged before pulling the door open for all the band kids. "Just get your instruments set up." They said, "I'll get your pushups done as soon as your pt begins. That sound fair?"
A small chorus of voices greeted her enthusiastically before the sounds of instruments being put together, and the thudding of cases encompassed her. She sat at the directors chair, quietly wondering why he wasn't here today when the sound of sirens hit her ears.
Lucid dreams are dreams in which the individual is aware that they are dreaming and may be able to control the narrative of the dream. They can be vivid in nature and occur during the REM
No, that’s not quite it. Augustas scrolled down the page some more.
There still isnt an explanation for as to why we dream. Scientists have put forward various hypotheses, all valid possibilities: to act out scenarios and practice for future possibilities, to fulfill unsatisfied wishes, to improve brain function, to process and organize memories
Still not it.
“Why did I bother looking it up anyways?” Augustas closed the laptop and sighed. He had another dream during his nap, but it felt oddly like a recollection more than anything else. And again, it left him with this strange sense of unease and nostalgia.
Could you be nostalgic about something you have never seen before, he wondered. But never mind that. It was already unlike him to get worked up over a few dreams. Those were just dreams, weren’t they? Little imaginations of the mind?
Augustas looked down at his arms where several small scars lined the backside. In the window’s slight reflection he could see the same face he saw in the mirror earlier, the one his flatmate saw for a moment as well.
But these couldn’t be little imaginations, he thought. Scars like the ones in the dreams. It had to be related somehow.
“Aaaand I’m letting this get to me too much,” he muttered nervously. He got up, grabbing his coat.
In a moment he was out the door, only pausing to make sure his hood was securely covering his head and, perhaps, hiding his face. Without any sense as to where he was going, he strode down the street, hoping that a walk would at least be able to clear his mind.
Katherine dashed into the library, pacing around and scanning the shelves for any information about her... Weird tails and ears and paws.
"Maybe looking up some Greek myths would be a help... I mean, those guys would always be turning into animals..." She muttered, picking a book about werewolves. Katherine sat down on an empty wooden chair and began to read.
~~~~~
In the myths, Lycaon was the king of Arcadia, who tested Zeus by trying to feed him the flesh of his son, Nyctimus. Zeus, however, was not pleased, and punished Lycaon by turning into a wolf, the first Werewolf.
~~~~~
Katherine threw down her head in frustration. It would be interesting, on a normal occasion, but this was not a normal occasion. Getting odd looks from some of the librarians, Katherine put the book back in a random shelf- The science one- And began to scan the fantasy ones.
Hurriedly Katherine combed her hand through her hair to make sure there were no ears poking out. Relieved, Katherine focused on a book that caught her eye: A rather thin book with no title, but a rather interesting cover: A girl in cat ears, with a tail, whiskers, paws and everything. Katherine opened it carefully, and an old crinkled note, still sort of white, fell out.
Katherine picked it up and began to read it silently.
To Queen Magic, 8/24/2004
Dear Queen, our daughter Kat had been missing for a few months at most. You said you would look for her, but there was no report or letter from you.
Please notify us if anything had been found. Thanks!
Sincerely,
~~~~~~
Katherine looked closer. The person who wrote this had his/her name blotted out. It looked smudged, perhaps by accident, but Katherine wanted to figure out wrote it.

Shakily and a bit nervous, Katherine brought it to the librarian. "Hello..." She said shakily, "I was wondering if you knew anything about this?" The librarian dismissed it with a wave of her hand. "Oh that!" She replied cheerfully. "It just came flying though the door one day." She gestured to the open door and said, "You can keep it if you'd like to."

Katherine carefully folded it up and put it into her pocket. "Thanks!!" She said, and walked away.

*shakes fist at my writer's block* Sorry for being a little slow with this post.

Toshra & Del

Del sat in corner of the coffee shop idly poking around on her tablet. Her mind drifted back to the holo star map from her dream. She felt a tingle in her fingers, almost like static electricity, where they touched her tablet. Without her input the star/sky map app on her tablet opened.

Del looked at her tablet in confusion. Closing the app she went back to absently browsing social media. Again the star map entered her mind and she puzzled over the configuration of stars trying to figure out why it seemed familiar. Again there was that static electricity tingle and again the star map opened.

Del glared down at her tablet. "Really? I haven't had you long enough for you to being going on the fritz now." She growled down at the device. Sticking the tablet back in her purse Del decided to run some errands before heading back to the apartment.

Toshra sat on the couch trying to reproduce the weird energy she produced earlier. Nothing happened, not a spark, not a glow, not a tingle, nothing. She heard the door close in the hall and the sounds of Del's footsteps.

"What in the world happened in the kitchen?" Del poked her head through the door. "Hey, what happened to the cabinet? Cooking experiment gone wrong?"

"I wish. I don't think you'd believe what really happened."

Del raised her eyebrows, "Oh, I've got to hear this." Del plopped down on the other end of the couch. "Spill it."

As Toshra told the Del's eyebrows rose again in astonishment and disbelief. Then a look of puzzlement crossed her face.

"Tosh, are you wearing elf ears?"

"What?" Toshra's hands reached up to the sides of her head. Her fingers traced the now unfamiliar shape of her ears. "What the..." She tugged on the tips and felt the corresponding pressure. "I didn't...these aren't...I..." A look of profound confusion settled on her face.

Seeing Toshra's confusion, and not wanting to get fooled, Del reached out and tugged on one of Toshra's pointed ears. Her eyes widened as she felt flesh and not plastic.

"Ouch. Hey, don't pull so hard." Toshra swatted Del's hand away.

"What is going on here." Del breathed, eyes wide.

"Muse, your magic is unstable. You must focus on honing your other skills before this. Regardless of your heritage..." The voice trailed off as Muse stared off into one of the far corners of the plain orange lighted room. The glow flited around as she turned her head, and when they blinked the light seemed to dim seconds at a time.

When they closed their eyes to rub them, the glow beat off her eyelids and suddenly she was surrounded once again by the sounds of cases closing and band kids talking as they arranged the instruments.

"I'd say a full ensemble today, unless the director says otherwise once he shows up." Muse said as they opened their eyes and noting the glow that followed from the action.

Quietly squeaking she abruptly pulled on her sunglasses before heading to the door to usher the kids outside.

Katherine shivered. She felt drawn to the letter somehow, and it sent weird tingles down her spine. Lightly touching the paper again, she felt a static coming from it, a pulse, almost.

A electric jolt shuddered through Katherine's body, and she collapsed in pain. Her body was slowly shrinking, and she didn't like it one bit. Quivering, Katherine realized she was now a cat. She dashed out before being shooed away, and began sobbing in a corner. Can cats cry?

Katherine managed to cry herself to sleep, but what she dreamt shocked her more than any electric jolt. A shadow pounced on top of Katherine, and she was all alone. She felt the bites of their claws and the glare of their empty, white eyes.

"Kat!" A woman screamed, but it felt distant and far away. Her dream crumpled up, and her body felt sore and pierced. Yet she still wasn't awake yet.

Xanlea

Xanlea swirled his drink around in its glass. He could still feel that weird sensation in his chest. Pulling out his phone he noticed something strange. He had a slightly fuzzy idea idea of opening Maps to see what was in the direction of the odd pull, what was strange was his phone was unlocked and the map app was already open.

Xanlea's brow furrowed in confusion. He must have turned on his phone while it was in his pocket. Shrugging away his confusion he looked at the map. Zooming in on his position he scanned the map in the direction he felt the pull. Nothing caught his eye. Shifting the map along he continued to see nothing of note until he reached the forest at the edge of town.

A half formed idea came to him. Downing the rest of his drink he made his way to the bar and payed his tab. Making his way back home he kept an eye on his phone. Each time he felt the pull change direction he checked the map trying to triangulate where it was coming from. Each time the only common point was the forest.

By the time Xanlea reached his apartment he had made up his mind. Grabbing his backpack he began to pack it with a few things. Not knowing what he was going to find he packed a random assortment of items. He stumbled backwards, falling to the floor, as his legs bent at an unnatural angle.

"Not again." Xanlea groaned into his hands.

As soon as his legs returned to normal he pulled on his favorite hoodie and scooped up his backpack. This time instead of heading off on foot he got in his car and started driving in the direction of the forest. He hoped that whatever was on the other end of this pull held some sort of answers as to what as happening to him.

writer's block is actually kicking my butt orz
----

Callisto sets their coffee on a shelf near them, ignoring the others around them for the time being. Still, they feel their skin prickle as eyes gloss over them, scanning the same books they're thumbing through.

They don't know what they're looking for, really, but they pull eight books from the shelves and grab their coffee, scurrying off to go find an empty table. Choosing the table that's furthest from any others to avoid having any strangers sit with them, Callisto piles the books up and grabs the first one, sipping at their now lukewarm coffee.

They flick through each page lazily, scanning paragraphs and pictures for anything that might explain what's happening to them. Nothing. On to the next book. Nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing! Frustrated, Callisto shuts the fourth book and sits back, fingers drumming restlessly on their knee. They wrack their brain for something--anything--an old story their mother told them, a book they read, something from Chamonix.

Eventually their coffee is gone, and they're left even more jittery and nauseous than they were when they woke up this morning.

"Mon Dieu," they hiss under their breath, hands pushing up under their glasses to press against their eyes. They stay like this for a few moments, eventually releasing the tension in their muscles and letting their glasses drop back down over their eyes.

Pushing back from the table, Callisto attempts to stand, only to fall right back down, sprawled awkwardly somewhere between the chair and floor as they yelp in surprise. Their knees had bent the wrong way--and now that they thought of it... Their jeans felt oddly tight. And warm. Upon looking down at their legs, Callisto sees that their knees are indeed bent the wrong way--white, arctic fur sticking out at the bottoms of their pant leg. Again, they freeze, staring wide-eyed at the foreign appendages.

They blink, half expecting the fur to disappear again--which it doesn't.

Their head whips to the side, checking for onlookers but not really seeing any. In their panic Callisto overlooks everything in their path save the bookshelves, and awkwardly struggles to get to their feet and half stumble, half run back towards the door of the library. Roughly they bump into someone and stumble back, startled and immediately begins apologizing, hands reaching out to steady the other person--ironically, their hands aren't very steady themselves. Like the rest of Callisto, their hands are trembling. They can still feel the unpleasantly incorrect bend of their knees.

"Désolé, dé--s-sorry, I'm s-sorry."

Callie's first interaction with the section was to grab a random book she had not read, and opened the first page. The entire book talked about two seemingly fictional characters and their journey in what they call a forest of stars.

"A forest of stars, huh?" Those words were glued at the back of her head, as if it sounded so familiar. "Sounds like an interesting concept for a story." The ignored what appeared to be a random chance of deja vu, and put the book back in the shelf.

Eventually Callie quickly lost interest as they headed towards the door, and slowly opened it, about to head outside to the crowded streets and sidewalks. Today was an unsuccessful book hunt for her, as she walked down the blocks to her home.

As they were about to open the door to the entrance of the small apartment complex they live in, their hand phases through, as it was a hologram of some sorts. Callie looked around, hoping nobody saw.

Everybody was busy looking away from the event, as they were distracted by something else.
"Good, nobody saw that... But..." Callie tried to reach the handle, but their hands phased through once more. Curious to find out more, Callie attempted to pace past the door, and failed miserably, nearly collapsing.

"What was that about?" They said, a bit dizzy from the impact, and put their grasp on the handle again, and gripped it tightly, slowly opening the door, confusion as to why her hands were able to phase through the first time.
~~~~
Callie headed towards their room, and still noticed that her hands were tangible. It still baffled her how she was able to phase through the handle earlier, but she decided to ignore it.
They then plopped down to their bed, and stared at the ceiling in boredom, hoping that something interesting may happen.
The lady began pushing the stroller away quickly after glancing at Augustas’ hooded face. He felt his stomach drop a few inches. Augustas sat down at the nearest park bench and felt at his face, sighing. Of course, the unusual scars were there again. After wandering aimlessly for a good hour to clear his head of the worries, irony would have its way at reminding him of them.
He watched as the lady in the distance glanced down at her baby and then back at him one last time before exiting the park. It had been a long time since he’d seen his family, Augustas mused. He wondered what they’d be doing now.
Sleeping of course. Its nighttime across the ocean. Yeahthat has to be right.
Lost in his thoughts, Augustas tried to remember his life before he moved across the ocean to the city, what it was like in his hometown living with his siblings. Blank. He tried picturing the streets of that rural home. There was that mental block again.
“That’s odd.” Augustas frowned, wondering if it might still be his lack of sleep and his nerves. Probably, he thought to himself, yawning and glanced at his surroundings. Just the usual city park trees and benches. And a tiny clock tower in the small plaza. A man was feeding the plump squirrels that had gathered around him.
Augustas' eyes were drawn back to the clock tower, unable to resist the unusual nostalgic feeling it gave. There was always a clock, he thought absent-mindedly. A pocket watch. Every time he’d travel those worlds there was always that pocket watch with the four hands and its constant ticking. If he checked it now, maybe he’d be able to find an old memory of his hometown.
He snapped back into reality and became aware of the fact that his hands were deep in the coat pockets, feeling for the pocket watch from his dreams.
Christ, I remember more about things that dont exist than things that do, he thought to himself, starting to feel somewhat disturbed at the realization.
But a memory, or perhaps a memory of a dream, was already forming in his mind and he couldn’t resist its pull, disturbing or not. He got back to his feet and began following its lead.
Katherine shivered, slightly, and a pull tugged her whiskers. She blinked, just a little bit, and all of a sudden she was human again. Her collar was tugging at her neck, choking her, and Katherine moved left, the way the collar was demanding, yet the tug didn't fade. Frowning, she quickly began walking into the woods, where the tug demanded.
The tug would dim every time she followed its lead. It was getting late, and the sun was dimming. Soon she wouldn't be able to see at all, yet whenever she so much thought about heading back, the tug would strengthen. Exhausted, she fell asleep on a fallen log.
~~~~~
Katherine wasn't expecting another dream, but she saw one more vivid than the last. At least it wasn't a nightmare...

A woman with a pale, kindly face looked upon Katherine smiling. Her whiskers whitened upon age and her black fur was tinted gray. She had black ears and gray paws that were currently tickling Katherine.

"oooh...," The woman cooed, smiling. "Shes.... beautiful." Katherine sucked her breath in, and held it there, not daring to breathe. She felt more connected to this woman than she did with her own mother.

Toshra & Del

Del's eye's widened. "They're gone now."

Again Toshra's hands went to her ears. "Oh for...what in the Abyss is happening here?" Toshra now looked more annoyed than confused.

"This is turning into the weirdest day." Del rubbed her temples. "So, you some how burned the cupboard with weird, pink ball lightning and grew elf ears only to have them disappear. Any other weirdness I missed while I was out?"

"Other than a weird dream, you pretty much summed it up." Toshra continued to run her fingers over her ears.

Del felt a shiver of recognition run down her spine. "Weird dream?"

"Yeah, it wasn't the content that was weird, it's that I remember it so clearly. And not just this morning either. I had a dream about a month ago that I remember as clearly as a I remember the gig last night." Toshra ran a hand through her hair. "It's weird, in some of them I'm a kid, others an adult. Everything is so familiar but also so different. I'm in places that don't exist, can't exist, with people that are so familiar to me but I don't know why." Her hands gestured empathetically in the air.

"You know, I've had weird dreams like that too." Del spoke slowly, her mind going over possibilities. "The dreams where you're a child, do you remember them better then you do your actual childhood?" There was an odd note in Del's voice.

Toshra looked up curiously, Del appeared to be thinking hard about something. Cocking her head to one side, brows furrowed, Toshra thought back to her childhood and her memory was curiously blank. The only sparks of memory where the dreams.

"I..." Frowning, Toshra thought back again and again that blankness. "I can't actually remember my childhood." Mild worry tinged her voice.

"I can't either. Its not something I thought about till today, but..."

“Del?” Toshra interrupted, “How long have we lived here?”

The question caught Del off guard. “What? Six months or so, I think.”

“And before that? Where did you live?”

As Del tried to remember but came up blank. Looking into Toshra's eyes she could seed the same answer reflected there, Toshra's memories stopped there too.

Xanlea
*Xanlea will be in the woods, so any other character there can run into him if they want*

Xanlea sat in his car staring at the forest. He could feel something in there calling to him. It terrified him. His hands tightened on the steering wheel, knuckles going white. He forced himself to relax. This was the only way he was going to find answers. Picking up his backpack, he shoved the first aid kit he kept in his car into it (just in case), and got out of the car. The shaking in his legs had nothing to do with the changes that had been happening to him and everything to do with confronting the unknown. Taking a deep, steadying breath Xanlea stepped into the woods.

Katherine muttered quietly to herself. "Everything will be alright, the darkness is your home, remember?" Yet Katherine felt terrified. Every night, when she had yearned for the darkness to come, it all seemed false. And when she searched her memory, all that happened was the images from the dreams she thought she had. Katherine hated it; Her dreams were more real than real life.

And even though her mind of her childhood was already blank, as she headed towards the forest it became even even more blank. As if that was possible. Katherine was slowly beginning to believe, that maybe the dreams were real.

Xanlea

Xanlea walked along one of the forest trails. The peace and quiet of the forest helped ease his mind and fear. As the tension slipped away he could feel the pull more strongly. It felt like a call now, like a song he almost recognized. Stepping off the path he walked, almost confidently, deeper into the woods.

With no recognizable landmarks Xanlea had no idea how far he walked. He felt a frizz of static electricity raise the hair on his arms and stopped. He felt the call swelled in his chest almost overpowering him, and as suddenly as it came it was gone leaving him with an empty sensation. Xanlea absently rubbed at his chest as he looked around.

It wasn't easy to spot but once he found it he couldn't not see it. There was a weird anomaly in air about 5 feet in front of him. What tipped him off was the trunk of a tree the didn't line up quite right like a folded picture. Walking around the space he could see that everything that passed behind it would acquire that same folded look. His brows furrowed in concentration as he studied the anomaly.

Behind him a branch snapped. Xanlea whirled around, eyes wide. "Hello?"

Katherine froze. She leapt back into the woods, only now noticing that the trees around her were distorted. She focused on the man, who was looking around warily. Katherine fingered her golden bell, and it made a slight jingling sound. She cursed silently and slowly crouched down into the bushes, making the leaves rattle.

She decided she had no choice. Stepping outside, claws showing, she narrowed her eyes are hissed under her breath. "What do you want?"

Sorryyy, dunno what to write o ^ o

Augustas hurried down the street in a half run, only just managing to avoid running into other people.

“S-sorry!” he shouted back to them. Slowing down wasn’t an option here, the pull of the memory was irresistible.

The sounds of the city were growing quieter here, he noticed. Whether it was the trees muffling the noise or if he was far from the busy streets, he couldn’t tell. Augustas glanced up at the street sign as he passed one by. Westwood and 4th. Still, the information didn’t really help much. All Augustas knew was that he was far from his place.

It was when he saw the sign marking the beginning of a forest trail that he could slow down.

“Huh… so that’s where I’m headed?” he murmured to himself, looking at the dense woods that bordered the city.

A car was parked at the entrance and, passing by it, Augustas could feel it was still emanating some warmth. Someone else passed by here not too long ago, he thought to himself and took note of the footprints in the gravel. Where they the one calling him here? Augustas stared at the forest warily but now filled with a need to know. And whatever it was that was calling him was growing stronger now, urging him forward.

“Well, here’s to not dying…” he sighed and continued following it into the forest.

Toshra & Del

Del made an exasperated sound at her computer. Toshra looked up from her laptop, slice of pizza in one hand. "Did you find something?"

"No, I did not." Del growled. "In fact I found nothing. Not one little shred of anything." She balled up her napkin and threw it at her monitor in disgust. "It's like we never existed before six months ago."

"Yeah, I've been finding the same thing." Toshra sighed, running her pizza-free hand through her hair. "You know, this is getting us nowhere. We can speculate and run around in circles until we fall over trying to figure out what all this," she waved her hands in the air, "means. We're tired, we're frustrated, not thinking clearly, and I think we need to take a break."

"I agree." Del turned around in her chair. "Hey, wanna try out that board game I got last week?"

Later that evening, as Toshra and Del fell asleep in their beds the dreams started.

Xanlea

Xanlea was genuinely surprised by the hostile stance of the girl who stepped out of the bushes, more so than he was by the claws that tipped her fingers. At this point his day couldn't get any stranger. "I..I'm sorry if I scared you." He raised his hands in a placating gesture. "I didn't think that there'd be anyone else out here. I was just clearing my mind after a very long day." He tried to sound reassuring.

"I'm Xanlea, by the way."

Katherine

Katherine blushed, retracting her claws, which she never knew she do. "Xanlea?" She said, analyzing him in her mind. "I'm Katherine," she said, a gleam in her eye. He seemed rather lost.

Katherine glanced at the rip in the forest, and the trees that don't line up with each other. She found some suspicion to his excuse, and deciced to risk it. "Were you having that, ah, pull?" She asked, immediately regretting it. "The dreams too?" before she knew what she was saying

Katherine cursed under her breath, trying to change the subject. "Um, why are you out here in the nighttime?" she asked, motioning helplessly to the full moon. Okay, I'll just shut up now, she thought, waiting for a reply.

Del

A sluggish salt breeze tugged at Del's hair. The deck beneath her feet swayed gently with the waves of the shallow ocean. Glancing up, expecting to see the moon or stars, she saw that the sky was dominated by Jupiter's vast bulk. Her sleeping mind was overcome with awe at the sight.

Shift.

Del was cuddled on a couch, her back resting against something warm and soft. A young woman sat on the floor with her back resting against the couch, she laughed at something that happened in the movie they watched. How Del knew it was a movie they watched she wasn't sure, part of her just knew. It was that same part of her that thought nothing over that same woman feeding popcorn to what looked like a large spider.

Shift.

Del sat at a table in a packed bar. The room was filled with a shocked silence as everyone watched the viewscreens with mounting horror as the opening salvo in war everyone feared was unleashed on an unsuspecting planet.

As the horror and shock set in Del awoke.

Del gasped, one hand going to her chest where see could still feel that ache of horror from her dream. As she absently rubbed her sternum she noticed that the ache didn't subside and it no longer felt like horror. She felt the urge to get up and walk. As she sat up, ready to follow her impulse she heard a shout from Toshra's room. Her impulse to walk gone she rushed to her friend's room.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Xanlea
Xanlea's eyebrows rose in mild surprise at the girl's questions. It seemed he wasn't the only one experiencing weird dreams and phenomena. "I wasn't lying when I said I needed to clear my mind." He nodded towards her hands. "If that's any indication I'd guess that your day has probably been just as long and trying as mine."
Taking a step back towards the trees he glanced around until he found a suitable stick. Picking it up he walked closer to the anomaly. "Now, you mentioned a pull. I felt something like that, I don't know about you, but once I got to this spot I stopped feeling it. Whatever this is seems to be the source." He gestured with the stick towards the anomaly.
Xanlea walked in a careful circle around the anomaly, making sure not to step into it. Raising the stick he poked toward what seemed to be the center of the warping. The end of the stick seemed to warp and then disappear. He pulled the stick out, the end that he stuck in the anomaly appeared to be fine. There was a slight smell of ozone in the air and the hairs on his forearms were raised slightly as if by static.
"Interesting." He murmured to himself. He glanced up at Katherine, "Thoughts?"
Katherine frowned. "That almost...." she paused, wondering if the statement would make her seem childish. She decided to go with it. "That almost looks like a portal! Behaves like one, too..." She threw a leaf into the portal. It fluttered to the ground midway, as she expected, but then it got sucked back into the.... "portal," she would call it. Katherine looked back to Xanlea for an explanation.
She stood near it, and felt a violent pull tugging her forwards. Katherine picked up another leaf, and held it loosely in her hand. Just as she expected, it got sucked into the anomaly.
