I found 7 sticks and built a little circle around the metal. Then I buried it so no one would know it was there. Kind of. It would keep the area safe, for now.

"Maybe we shouldn't bury it. You never know if a curious cat will dig it back up. It might be better to keep it in view, just so others are aware of the danger." Iceshard suggested.

It was so bright! I blocked it, and after the light disappeared, we could see again. "Well, keep a bit buried, at least enough to shield the light. Like on the sides."

Gosh. It was just too bright. Iceshard had never seen such a bright object before. It was so shiny! He kicked some frozen dirt onto the "metal"

Smokepaw hurried towards the patrol. He felt bad for leaving his mentor but his mentor had left him first. And besides, Flamefrost was still nowhere to be seen.

He halted by Lunafall and Lavenderfur, watching as his father joined with the patrol. Smokepaw hid his surprise as his father gave a small nod to both Lavanderfur and Lunafall as he approached. His father rarely went on big patrols.

Once everyone was there, I starting shyly leading the patrol. I wasn't much a fan of leading patrol because their was attention directed toward me. To give me something to do, I decided to interact with Smokepaw, asking him mentor-like questions since his actual mentor wasnt with us right now. "So Smokepaw, " I meowed a little awkwardly, "What can you smell right now? Any prey?"

"Okay Mistpaw." I meowed, "Today we're going to work on how you can try to blend into your surroundings."

I awoke in the apprentice den, I had gotten enough sleep, I jumped to my paws and trotted outside of the apprentice den, eager to do something.

Smokepaw parted his jaws, tasting the air. Above the scent of could he could detect mouse. And just beyond that the faint taste of squirrel.

"I can scent mouse and squirrel." he stated.

I sniffed the air to check Smokepaw, and sure enough their was a strong mouse scent, and a slight squirrel scent. Squirrel are larger and could feed up to five cats. A mouse would only feed two, however, we had a much clearer scent of the mouse, I looked back at the patrol. "Which scent do you all think we should follow?"

"We could split up," Lunafall suggested. "There's enough of us to go off in two groups and come back to this tree." She pointed at a tree with pointy rocks jutting out around it. "Just a suggestion."

I nodded, "Yes, thats a good idea. Silentfall and Smokepaw, you two can go after the mouse. Me and Lunafall well go after the squirrel." I figured I could give Silentfall and Smokepaw some father-son time with the easier prey to hunt.

Smokepaw nodded, turning to his father as the older tom led the way through the trees. Smokepaw kept his jaws partes as they followed the mouse scent. Pausing as his father gestured around to the other side of a snowdrift with his tail.

Knowing what he meant, Smokepaw lightly scurried to the other side dropping into a crouch as he moved.

I padded along following the squirrel scent with my nose, once me and Lunafall started to get close, I signaled with my tail for us to get low and make lighter paw-steps, however, once I saw the squirrel, I was disapointed. It was small and still young, not fully grown, also, it was deathly skinny, with hardly any meat on its bones that jutted out from under its pelt. The squirrel was laying their, almost dead it seemed, with just a slight rise and fall of its flank. I then noticed its broke paw. The squirrel was right under a tree, I guessed that because it was so weak it fell out of the tree and broke its paw, and now was just laying here waiting to die from starvation. "Poor thing." I muttered. It seemed almost wrong to hunt it, it wasn't fair. I got to my paws and padded up to the squirrel, it flinched, and its eyes darted around for a second, but it didn't move. I wasn't going to sneak up of the squirrel, hunting it would be wrong at this point. This was a mercy killing now. I laid a soft paw on its neck and firmly snapped down, and the squirrels flank stopped rising. I bent my head to thank StarClan for the prey. It was moments like this that reminded you about the lives of the prey and how they should be respected.

"Well first, try to cover up the spots best you can with the snow, like this." I then hide my russet paw in snow, and covered my russet muzzle best I could with it. "Now you try to cover up those marks on your back."

Smokepaw halted as they got closer to mouse scent. The scent itself coming from a small burrow in the snow. The hole itself was scarcely bigger around than a paw, and as Smokepaw approached, certainly looked fairly deep.

His father sighed turning away as he caught up to Smokepaw, but Smokepaw refused to leave without at least trying. The apprentice weasled in between two tree roots that protruded above the snow and crouched there watching the hole intently.

He could see his father out if the corner of his eyes, stopping as he walked away and falling still as well. Silentfall proceeded to perch beside the nearest tree as well. Watching the mouse hole with equal intensity as his son.

Lunafall sighed. She thanked Starclan for the prey, even if not much. It would still feed the clan.

The faint scent of mouse caught my nose. "Well, there's a mouse ahead in the forest." I replied.

I shifted restlessly in the den. Walking outside wouldn't hurt, will it? As long as I don't try and walk out the camp. Nightsky would freak out, and probably give me a long speech on the dangers of the forest. Smiling, I peeked into the warriors den. He was sleeping soundly. Must have had a long night I thought. I padded around the den before I went back into the den.

Well, I was bored. Really bored. I wanted to go play. Sneaking off, I was worried. What would Mistpaw say? She always mocked me. Thinking about Mistpaw, I was determined. "I will do this!" I thought as I looked at the exit of the camp.
