Are you a part of the LGBTQ+ community? yes. When did you know you were LGBTQ+? in 7th grade I had inklings (although I didn't come out until I was in my mid-thirties-about 38 years ago)Have you participated in pride before? If so, what was it like. Yes. Went to San Francisco one year and it just happened to be the same time that the Pride parade was happening. It was wonderful. Such a celebration! I'll never forget it. I think drag queens are simply amazing. So many beautiful people in one place at the same time and the Pride flag flying high and free!Who is a famous person that you know that is a part of the community? Elton John, Lady Gaga...There are many famous LGBTQ+ folk.

@endrolledHello Russell and thank you for your Ted Talk ❤️ I would love to see some drag queens someday. @mindassalaIt would have been one heck of an experience coming out in the 1990s but thank you for doing so! It would have been your generation to really start the change in public opinion for the queer community, yes?

@mastergemma I read your response, went 'wait who mentioned the 90s', realized @/mindassala said 'about 38 years ago', an omg. HOW were the 90s that long ago?? I was a kid in the 90s, but it doesn't seem that long ago at all! I believe my first 'coming out' experiences (just a few friends an not family yet) were 99-00. How is it some memories feel like yesterday when they are actually so far away?(don't mind me, just ramble-thinking at 4 in the morning, lol)

I answered some of these questions last year, so this year I want to talk about some of my favorite shows ❤️She-Ra (2018) reboot is amazing and has so much amazing representation! There's a diversity across a variety of demographics, including sexuality and gender. I also love that it actually shows healthy diverse relationships without it being bait or squeezed in at the very end, or being tragic. My personal favorites are Netossa and Spinnerella. GAH i love them.Legend of Korra (2012) was iconic. Even better are the graphic novels after the series that go into more depth! I won't spoil things in case people want to watch it, but they are suuuuch a cute couple. A little bait-y since it's not a main focus on the show and is tacked on the end, but at least it's not tragic, right?Speaking of tragic ... The 100. I won't say anything else to avoid spoilers but I am still not okay. I rage quit this series afterward. They were iconic and I love them so much but I cannot emotionally handle the tragic ending.Hope everyone is having a wonderful pride month ❤️

What a difference a year makes, eh? I have some updates!Since last year, I've kind of drifted away from labels a bit? I still use bisexual, because I find it most accurately describes how I experience attraction, but a lot of the time I just use queer instead now. I find I like the vagueness of it!Part of this switch might be linked to my new pronoun announcement! Quite regularly over the past year and a half/two years, I kept coming back to the idea of trying out they/them pronouns, as well as she/her. Part of the reason I didn't let anyone know about it before about two months ago was that I was absolutely terrified of being wrong about it. (I think it being such a regular recurring thought should have been a dead giveaway that I was not.) Anyway, I confided in a close friend and they were such a wonderful listener and let me pick it apart with them. At the end of the chat, I felt so much lighter. So, officially, hi! I use she/they pronouns! I have no preference between the two, and I'm not sure what this means for my gender, if it means anything. Similarly to my drift away from the label of bisexual, I am really not fussed about putting a label on my gender. I still feel connected with being a woman, and I will still refer to myself as one. That feels right, to me, but I will also refer to myself as a person sometimes and use they, because that feels right too. Moral of the story here is that your queerness is defined by you and what feels right for you, no one else gets a say in the matter (unless you want them to).I've made some wonderful queer friends over the past year (including the one who helped me with my gender) and they are such a wonderful, amazing, welcoming bunch. I love them! We can be unabashedly queer together and I hold that so close to my heart. And I've started listening to some more podcasts! Obviously, it's me. The biggest one is The Magnus Archives, which I got into around October of last year, and it is JUICY. I'm on season 3 now, although I've taken a slight break because I've started watching csi - not the queerest of shows, but it is also very good. (Of course, I have my headcanons - Catherine would make a wonderful lesbian.)The Magnus Archives is a horror/mystery podcast distributed by Rusty Quill, and has a hugely diverse cast! All or most of the main characters are queer in some way, and the show as a whole is really good for racial diversity as well as disability representation. It is consistently amazingly written in general, the stories are well constructed, the characters believable (if infuriating and occasionally downright despicable) and the voice acting is top notch. I also find it to be a very digestible form of horror! In general, I am NOT a horror fan but TMA is more digestible (to me, at least) because of the audio format. I can just go about my day and focus on making dinner, crocheting, cleaning etc, while listening to the podcast and that helps remind me that it's fiction if I get a bit freaked out. I also occasionally talk to the podcast, usually when Jonathan Sims (the main-ish character) is about to do something stupid. He can't hear me, but I'll still tell him he's being an idiot.I've also started a rewatch of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, which is just as wonderful as I remember! The series is set in 1920s Melbourne, and features just about every Australian actor in the business at some point, including the ever-wonderful Miriam Margoles, who I adore. The series follows the Honorable Miss Phryne Fisher, lady detective, as she solves crimes in Melbourne, assisted by her ragtag group of friends. Phryne is a wonderful protagonist. Sharp, witty and gloriously independent, she rejects every expectation placed on women at the time. She is progressive, believing no-one should be persecuted for who or how they love, and very open-minded, encouraging those around her to learn and grow. There is a very found family element to the show, as Miss Fisher tends to tug everyone she meets into her circle and welcome them with open arms. By the second episode, Phryne has hired a maid, Dot (although Dot is always more of a companion and confidante than an employee), befriended Ces and Bert (two communist cab drivers), and adopted a little girl named Jane.Miss Fisher's best friend Mac is a doctor, a surgeon specifically if I remember correctly, and a lesbian. Mac is truly amazing! She's very masculine and wears suits, and she is an accomplished doctor, seen lecturing at the local university. The series is amazing overall, and I adore all the characters. It's based on a book series too, which I haven't yet read, but I will be as soon as I can!Anyway! I'm so happy this topic was opened again for this year, and I wish everyone a safe and happy pride.

@chaotictreat Last year applicants can definitely still participate again!@ggjade Take a look at the first post here for a bit more information! @mythiseaI enjoyed Legend of Korra so much! It is a shame Nickelodeon got into the way of the romance but I'm glad to hear that it is more fleshed out in the books. I keep hearing of She-Ra and that it's a good watch, but I just never seem to turn it on, I will have to at some point. @minervaandmarsHappy Pride ❤️@amethyst_elf448 I find it incredible how labels have gone from fairly vague to fairly explicit in their definitions and it really does show just how complex everyone is. Because humanity is full of complexity and nothing is binary about us. Good on you for taking the time to self-reflect to get to know yourself further! Moral of the story here is that your queerness is defined by you and what feels right for you, no one else gets a say in the matter (unless you want them to).THIS!!!Wait what Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is AUSTRALIAN? How am I only just learning this right now? What a lovely sounding show, as soon as I finish Nancy Drew the tv series I will have to track down where to watch that. Travels will be sent momentarily ❤️

Gotta say my first real experience with any kind of LGBTQ+ media was in Sailor Moon when my friend told me that Michiru and Haruka weren't actually cousins. It all suddenly made sense. Sailor Moon is still my fave anime to this day.
chaotictreat • 28 June 2025 at 1:33 AM
@ggjade cousins?? nah they gay as heck XD let's go lesbians etc (i LOVED the manga but couldn't get into the anime bc it was too different < /3 was quite a while ago tho, maybe i'll try again)
ggjade • 28 June 2025 at 7:03 PM
@chaotictreat I watched the anime first cos that was how we could get into weeb materials back in the day. Honestly, I am glad I did. It's certainly very different than the manga, but was still hell of a great show. And yeah, they did have to "censor" it for the puritanical western society. But once that sheet was pulled from my eyes, it made so much more sense.
