👻 Spooky Descriptory Contest | The Dozen Club

All items and travels on Egg Cave come with descriptions. Some of them standard and expected, some of them silly and wacky. Create a spooky story or dialogue using only descriptions of Egg Cave items. Your finished piece should read like an excerpt from a book or a conversation. Try searching the Items Database for specific words to help find the vibe of what you're looking for. Use "quotations" around a word in your search to find something exact.

You can check out the Spooky Descriptory a couple sections below that I made in order to help you understand how this works! I originally hosted this type of contest for my guild Nest, so you can also look at those past winners to get a feel for it.




• The challenge is to make a story composed of only the item descriptions, without adding your own text. Each line should only have text taken directly from item descriptions. You can cut out text like I did in my example below, but you can't add in your own text.
• The expected entry will have between two (2) and eight (8) item/travel descriptions.
• There is no maximum number of descriptions you may use, but it's recommended to not exceed 20.
• If an item description is more than one sentence, you may use all of the sentences or omit one or more.
• Your entry must follow one or more of these themes: October, autumn, Halloween, scary/spooky/mysterious/creepy story.
• This contest requires three (3) Eggies to begin and is open to a maximum of ten (10) Eggies.
• Optional: You can add in names or species of who's saying what, like Alkub, Narrator, etc. Please see my example.

Please see my example below for how the subject should look. The format for message subjects will always be these three components only - DC Activity Name | @yourusername - following this format helps streamline things for me and I really appreciate it!

In the message body, please make up a title for your story, add your story, then below that, please add the list of item descriptions you utilized, in order. See example message below.

Yeep: HUNGRY!
Narrator: They put their head... RIGHT INTO THE CAKE!!! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, ISN'T IT?
Subtitles: You sense a strange presence nearby.
Unknown Voice: Death is waiting for you... always watching. Always... always... always...
(it's optional to put a species or name in front of each line)

And the below is something you do not need to include in your message, but I just wanted to show how you can also utilize description parts instead of the entire description:

A Gingerbread Cookie: This gingerbread cookie looks so tasty! However, it's almost so beautifully decorated that you don't want to eat it and ruin it.
Blood Stained Cursed Hand With Scroll: I don't think you should touch it. What if it comes alive? Spooky!
Fruit (Slysal Stage 2): Your Slysal is HUNGRY!
Surveillance Dystopia: They're always watching. Always... always... always...

🥈 Second Place: 100 CC + Spooky Descriptory Badge + Your username in the Fridge of Fame + Your story in the Eggy Library

🥉 Third Place: 50 CC + Spooky Descriptory Badge + Your username in the Fridge of Fame + Your story in the Eggy Library

⭐ Consolation: As a thank you for contributing, remaining Eggy story crafters will receive a participation badge, their name in the Fridge of Fame, their story in the Eggy Library, and a spooky item! (Your inventory permitting.)





The deadline to submit your entry is Tuesday, October 20th, at 11:59 PM ECT.
Voting will take place in a poll on this topic sometime after entries close.
Results will be posted sometime around Sunday, October 27th.

Also, I'd just like to clarify, the challenge is to make a story composed of only the item descriptions. So each line should only have text taken directly from item descriptions, it shouldn't have text that you wrote. All the text for your story has already been written for you -- the only thing you have to do is copy & paste the item descriptions and then put them in the order you want! In the future, there will definitely be actual creative writing contests.
