Beginning April 28, 2026, there will be a site-wide log out and you'll sign in using the email address associated with your Egg Cave account rather than your username. For example, instead of logging in with the username eggcaveteam, you'll enter [email protected] along with your password.
Additionally, starting April 28, 2026, you'll be able to access and sign in to all of your side accounts from your main account with a single click (single sign-on).
Accounts that aren't designated as either a main or side account will retain their own individual login credentials, and you'll continue to sign in using the email and password for each one.
We're making these changes to modernize Egg Cave and to keep all of your accounts secure. And hope that you enjoy the seamless switching between main and side accounts.

tl;dr: if your mains and sides are linked together and you have access to your main account with an accessible email, you're all set and ready for the change. people who need to pay attention: those who haven't linked their mains and sides OR those who have lost/inactive emails.

Just out of curiosity I guess now- but what about users who’ve been inactive for loooong times? What if they go to long into their accounts and had entirely forgotten their email?? I take it they’d be able to appeal it with their regular username and password(?)

@Ian @prairie I've been wondering/concerned about that too. It seems like just this ONE e-mail everything hinges. I think that more points of verification/contact should be open. It risks losing something many of us have invested a lot of time/our lives with. :/

@Ian I just hope there's nothing "glitchy" that happens since the only thing is the e-mail, people can't validate from their e-mail, which is what they will have to do each month. I've had things happen with other sites/ products,..they had more than e-mail as a point of contact.

@blub if your accounts are linked/declared, you won't have to login separately 😊 so basically yes? you can just switch around once logged into your main

@blub yes, for linked mains and sides you will be able to use the same email. as part of this transition, your sides will be linked to your main account's email. so get your main email up to date, don't worry about sides.
@heatherm19 correct. to sign into sides, you'll see the account picker (image pictured in this blog post) instead of entering username/email/password for each side.
@kediset yep just switch around once you're on your main!

@Ian Will new sides be able to be created with the mains email? Or will they still need a separate one? And similarly, can current sides have their email changed to the one the main is linked to? (eg 1 main and 2 sides on one email address instead of 3)

@Ian the reminders are appreciated for this big change! Can I suggest a yellow banner at the top of the site (a la egg hunt style) for 2-3 days before so absolutely no one visiting eggcave can miss the upcoming change? Just an idea! I'm all linked and ready to go.

@minnie298a new sides will be created via your main and not require an email. when creating from a side from your main, they will be automatically linked. it'll literally be as simple as "create new side" (slots available X / 3 sides).
