1. How to tell how much a rare pet is worth: Go to The Archives (http://eggcave.com/archives). It's arranged in alphabetical order. Click the creature you want to check, then see its Weighted Rarity. The higher the Weighted Rarity, the MORE common it is.

You should put your eggs on click sites, so they don't die. But not too many because they can get sick.
