Joshua paused for a second, feeling rather abashed at his rash conclusion, then he sighed.

"Whatever, I don't really care," he rolled his eyes and reached into pocket for a small scrap of paper, "here's the receipt for the Doll."

Tapping an impatient foot, he nodded towards the two Dolls in the room, "now, which one of them is mine?"

The Doll Maker suppressed his bemusement at the brash newcomer. 'How odd,' he thought to himself, 'this can't be the same boy who politely commissioned me online?'

But, seeing as it is not his business, he turned apologetically to Benjamin, "lad, I want you to meet Mr.Joshua Collins."

He paused, "your new Owner."

Roselynn nodded, "alright, just promise me you'll be careful around my father. We should be at the ferry soon."

She paused, "have you ever been to a ferry before?"

Benjamin didn't know how to react. He was a little worried that he had made a bad first impression with the door fiasco, so he was really hoping that his new owner wasn't too angry and annoyed with him.

Wringing his hands anxiously, all he managed to say was, "Oh,"

"He isn't YOURS! He was made for you, yes, but you don't OWN him! He's a person, just like you, and slavery is illegal!" Charlotte told the boy, angered.

Roselynn nodded, "I suppose it is too risky to take Dolls outside when their Owners could be coming in any moment..."

"Wait," she said, "does this mean the Doll Maker never leaves his home either?"

Joshua found himself biting back a sigh when the male Doll spoke.

''Oh',' he thought bitterly, 'I paid millions for a Doll that can say 'oh'. Great...of course I have to get the Doll that doesn't even have the manners to introduce himself.'

Feeling irritated, he welcomed the other Doll's angry comments, if only so he could justify his own mounting anger.

"Unless I am mistaken, I am his Owner," Joshua sniped back, "and it can't be slavery. Slavery would imply that you are human."

His eyes narrowed and he turned to stare critically at the male Doll, "and no matter how realistic you look, you'll always be just a machine."

With that, Joshua crossed his arms, "now if all the moralistic preaching is behind us, our ride is waiting."

He stared impassively at the male Doll, "but before anything else, what is your name Doll?"

"Can a machine feel hurt?" Charlotte said softly, then moved so she was standing right in front of Joshua. "Can a machine feel hurt?" she demanded of him. "Can a machine have feelings? Can a machine dislike those who look down on her? Can a machine Can a machine feel pain for others? Can a machine feel sadness? Can a machine..." her eyes began tearing up and her voice choked, "can a machine cry?" A single teardrop rolled down her cheek, followed by an army of tears. "Answer me that," she sobbed out. "Answer me that!" she shouted hoarsely into his face, amidst tears.

After a lot of pedaling, Alicia ended up in front of a mansion she called 'home'. After punching a few numbers into the pad, the gates opened, and Alicia gestured to the house "Go on. Shall we go in?"

Alicia smiled. Cam sure was like a ray of sunshine "Ok, let's go!" She pushed open the door slowly, before the interior was shown, with two rows of maids on each side of them to greet them. "Welcome home Mistress," they chorused, before, two by two, curtsying to welcome them in. Alicia responded with a curtsy as well, before saying "Hello Andrea, hello Lanna," and kept on going, saying the names of all the maids before her. Another woman came in from the side, curtsied respectfully, and said "Welcome back, young Mistress. May I take your coat?" Alicia curtsied once more, and replied "Yes please, Liccie. Thank you very much," and daintily handed her coat to the woman.

"Wowww." Cam blinked once, twice, fifty times. The place was big but a million maids seemed a little excessive. He wondered how they all fit inside. The Doll Maker must be quite rich too, because the dolls were very expensive, but he never did anything extravagant with it, just lived simply.

"I suppose it is a bit extravagant... But, do you want to go to my room?" Alicia gestured to the door by the left of the staircase in the middle "That's my room. Or would you rather do something else? I can find a room for you in the house; it has an extensive complex of rooms."

Alicia was more careful walking up the staircase, for she had slipped there before - and remembered what a nasty bruise it had caused. When she got to her room, she saw Cam there, excited to see her room. "Well, open the door, and you'll see it."

Inside the room was all kinds of fun. It was quite big, which suited it well. There was a large bed, with drapes hanging from it, and an extensive wardrobe on either side. Between that, was a large television, a computer, several games scattered across the floor and the odd sports equipment poking out from here and there.

Roselynn looked down sadly, she felt bad for the little old man, he seemed nice enough...it's unfortunate that he has to live relatively alone and secluded.

She shook her head.

It wasn't her business either way.

Roselynn smiled at Lilly, "don't be sad, you have a family with us now. And we can always go back and visit him whenever you want!"

She paused, "actually, is there anywhere you'd like to go or anything you'd like do before we head for home?"

Joshua's eyes narrowed, he was beginning to feel the faint stirrings of anger. He didn't tolerate years of overwhelming expectations and spending grueling hours either training, practicing or studying to the next Grand Duke just so he can be insulted by a Doll.

One that wasn't even his nonetheless.

He frowned at the Doll Maker.

"Sir," he began politely, his tone cold, "please restrain your Doll. Her rudeness is inexcusable, even if she is defending a worthy cause."

He paused to stare icily at Charlotte, "I must remind you, not only am I not your enemy, I also have the power to shut down this crummy little factory and," his eyes went cold, "by extension your imaginary little existence here."

((Sorry for the late reply, school/work is tiring me out.

Duchess? You might wanna respond before Joshua and Charlotte fight it out. XDDD ))

"I'm not his," Charlotte whispered. "I'm not anyone's. I'm my own person, and my life, my existence, is no different than yours." She blinked at him. "How would you feel...if you were told that you didn't really exist? How would you feel if you were told you were just a machine, and that was all?" She began to walk away, then picked up the pie and hurled it into his face. She ran up the stairs into her room, locking the door.

Benjamin stared after Charlotte as she exited the room. He couldn't believe that she would be so rude as to scream at a guest. He also felt quite uncomfortable with the fact that she had spoken of feeling emotion. It just didn't seem right.

He turned back to his new owner. Benjamin was slightly scared of him, even with his face covered in pie. He seemed angry and powerful, and Benjamin didn't wish to make him any more so.

"I'm Benjamin," he said weakly.

He turned back to the Doll Maker, "Should I get my things?" he queried.

The Doll Maker sighed, a weary sound that disrupted the otherwise eerily silent room.

"I apologize on her behalf, but you'll have to excuse her," he murmured sadly to Joshua, "she just lost one of her brothers and is not in the best of moods. Please allow me to pay for your dry cleaning and all maintenance fees for Benjamin will be covered for life."

The old man turned briefly to Benjamin, "that would be lovely lad, and if you please, could you also show our guest to the washroom and help him tidy up?"

That said, he bowed deeply to the offended guest and slowly made his way to Charlotte's room. Upon noticing the locked door, he sighed again and knocked gently.

"Charlotte?" he called out, "will you let me in please?"

Joshua was furious.

For one tiny moment, he contemplated carrying out his threat and destroying everything the stupid Doll held dear just to spite her.

But.

His conscience grumbled at him, sympathy for the old Doll Maker allowing the anger within him to simmer down into a disgruntled grudge.

Joshua frowned, "no need, I'll have these clothes burnt when I return home."

He turned briefly to Benjamin when the Doll spoke, and nodded curtly at his introduction, "pleased to meet your acquaintance."

"Now," Joshua gritted out through clenched teeth, picking a large piece of pie off his face, "where is this washroom?"

Alicia smiled as Cam took his time to examine all of her objects. "Would you like to see your room? You can have to one which's near mine; Liccie knows some people who build great beds, and I can even arrange a small room for Mr Bun Bun, if you want. But, for now, knock yourself out. Feel free to play as you wish."

Benjamin nodded at his new owner. He felt slightly more sympathetic towards him, it was obvious from his responses that he was well-spoken and from a good background. Then again, thought Benjamin, he must be to afford a doll such as himself.

"The washroom is this way," he said, turning to show him the way.

Joshua bit back the instinctive snort when the Doll, Benjamin, he reminded himself, immediately reverted back to the informal manner of speech.

He wasn't sure how he felt about the informality, but he knew the Doll was going to have to change if he was ever going to be able to live with Grand Duke.

"Hey you," he called out suddenly, "does your programming come with a polite setting or am I going to have to pay extra to get you to call me Master and stuff?"

(( Yeah...Joshua's not very likeable right I admit, but he has a reason I swear! He'll come around if Benjamin sticks it out ❤️ ))

The Doll Maker gave a small chuckle and reminded Charlotte gently, "I wish I could dear, but you need to unlock the door remember?"
