Every year, I think there should be a week where the Old EC is brought back, maybe on that day when Eggcave was made. I've browsed forums and I want to bring back those times, the old users (2009 and 2010) could help with that. I mean old old as in no TC, no ITC, and trading was through the AC. Same old background, CC gifting, because what holds us together is family. And that family is slowly disappearing.

The old users are quitting because they miss the old eggcave, where everyone was happy and almost no one was greedy. I really want to see that again. Right now, Eggcave is just about rarity, prices, rarity and more prices. There are still some good people out there, but I see their numbers dwindling. A long time ago, Eggcave was about gifting, family and friendship. Now, not so much.

I think we should bring back the old EC. One good person leads to another. 😊

@lchen888

I would love to see something like this happen, but I really can't see this working out. The eggconomy is just too dependent on trading and stuff for the TC to ever go down, even for a short time.

Even if this feature was implemented successfully, it's not going to bring back any old users or change anyone. Everyone would be just as greedy. I hate to admit that, but it's true.

Gasp, I remember coming back from the 2009/2010 and I was surprised on how the community changed. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it was different. Like, we were all one big happy family. o.o

I was -extremely- overwhelmed by the change.

I'm not sure if it was because back then, I was really oblivious to the trading thing (I didn't trade too much back then, I just collected a bunch of drakomos which happened to be junk eggs) or if I if it's because I don't communicate with people that often here...but I felt as the community was more..."together" back then,

It might have been because there wasn't as much people back then and creatures were still relatively new (I remember when Mos were the hype 😋 ).

Instead of a bunch of trade request, there was more people that asked how your day was.

It seemed like EggCave was kind of more community oriented and I'm not saying it's gone, but there is definitely more emphasize on trading, rarity, prices, etc.

Eh, it's probably just me, but it's how I feel. I also changed over the past couple years so it won't be fair if I blamed it on Eggcave.

Regardless, I don't think old EggCave could truly be back. EggCave changed. One week of it, even if we go back to it, would really make that much of a difference. As @despair mentioned, theme EggCave is and dependent on right now is trading. It's the main feature of EggCave right now.

As much as I miss my old friends, I don't think old EggCave is coming back. Sorry pal D:

I don't think it's the lack of "old EC" that is driving people away, really. The "mine, mine, mine" mentality of some people doesn't help, though.

I agree completely, I remember saying several times how nice the community was. I'd love it if things could be like that again, but the site has changed and the people have changed with it. It's mostly the reason why I don't RP anymore (even though I really want to >.<) and it's why I'm so hesitant to trade with people. No creature is worth being unkind to someone, no matter how rare it is.

@lchen888 - Just reading these posts brought back many memories. Instead of a bunch of comments on my wall asking for my Tine, I got instead comments from people who gave a compliment and others who simply wanted to chat... good times.
I remember getting super hyped for when v2 of Egg Cave came out. I remember when the URL was temporary 'new.eggcave' when v2 was released to the public. The hype of new forums, the skin change, the everything~
And yes, the Mo hype. You were an extremely lucky person to get a Mo back then. How to get a Terron wasn't as well known as it was today. We had many chats using the Site Blog before the existence of the forums~
That said, this would be an excellent idea... but everyone focuses more on trading than community, so there would be many complaints and rants in the Blog. The few people happy with this would either keep quiet or be dragged into the ranting with people possibly asking them why they like this. Then, like re releasing LE's, it'll never happen again.
So, yeah. To sum it all up, the majority of users would either be confused (newbies, maybe, not knowing what this 'old EC' is) or would hate the change very much, even if it was for only a short peroid of time ("Argh, I hate this! There's no TC or forums! I can't wait for this to end..."). But screw them, I dig this idea anyway. ❤ī¸

I'm starting to think it should be done anyway, just because. Maybe not once every year, but a one-time thing. Let people complain if they want to, it'll be over soon enough. But I'm not sure how it would affect Ian and the staff if people got mad or quit.

@metaphor
I agree so much with your statement. Lately, people have become so much ruder than what they were back when I first joined.

@lchen888
So, from my understanding, the old EC was basically just the blog and being able to feed users' creatures? I can see why people wouldn't be happy with many of the functions that they are used to and it would be confusing and unwanted by those who aren't aware of what it was like.

And don't worry, I think many of the older players are on the verge of quitting. Me as well XD

@iceiceice
I agree with you and @despair. I'm not really an old user ... but I remember when I first joined, people were really nice towards me ... one of them would trade a furfur & spritemice for a common of mine (when I didn't know values) to start me up, and another user gifted me a kujak and a skrulline. They were ready to answer any question I'd have ...
All I see today, it that newbies are often scammed, instead of helped. Dunno If it's because of the change in the trading system or something else ... but I think that bringing back the "old" eggcave won't change a thing, 'cause the mentality itself of people changed. :c

@lchen888 Sadly, I don't remember the old Egg Cave... But I would love to see what it was like, even if it was just for a short time. I would really appreciate more friendship and kindness on this site.

Oh and thanks for everyone for the feedback 😊 I remember in 2013, I was still a newbie. There were many people kind to me, they explained what I did wrong, like I had no idea about the whole rarity thing. But now, most have quit or are on a hiatus for 6+ months. ☚ī¸

@mastergemma See? That's kind of the problem. The old players were the ones who brought kindness onto the site, and this kindness is slowly tuning to scamming because of the greediness of some players ☚ī¸ But still, there is hope. I think only 1/3 of the players on eggcave are like that. If we can get them to change their minds...then 😃

Perhaps we should start a gifting day, where you get 500 CC but you can't spend it to yourself, only to other people. And no begging, maybe some players will realize that they aren't getting much and start turning nice? I don't know if this is a good idea, tell me if it isn't.

@lchen888 Not every one can afford to get CC. ☚ī¸ I don't have the money nor the opportunity to get it... But I still gift other users with creatures and items...

@ida92 No, like Eggcave gives it to us. And that is what a kind person does, giving things away when they have nothing much either. We need more people like this. 😃

@lchen888 Ok, so that would be a good idea if the EggCave gave it to us. 😊 But it would also be nice if they gave a wider selections of creatures/items in the CC shop just for that week. Like for instance 6 creatures and 10 travels to choose from. And the items/creatures we get should only be traded once (to the person we got them for).

Since we were talking about lots creatures being in the CSP, I could see a good time to do this would be around the end of CRW.

@despair Yes, perhaps. That seems like a good idea. But would Ian want to do this? I don't know...Giving 500cc to everyone...But hey, there was a re-release for the Roo and something else I think.

I do remember that last year for the Advent Tree they gave out 200CC. I thought it was a pain because it wasn't enough to even buy a creature. And then they started releasing the 200CC special creatures XD

@lchen888
I love that idea 😃 Having 500CC and not being able to use it for yourself. X3 I'm not sure how they would keep it from being traded more than once, though, which means some people might gift it to a side or something. I still think it would be great 😊

(I feel like I should ping the staff or something but I always feel like I'm bothering them when I do that.)

If this 500 CC thing was implemented, I can already see what would come of it.

Users would be making pairs (Give me yours, I'll give you mine) Hardly Anyone would just gift it freely.

@univea Maybe no sending it to the same IP Address? (sorry family) IKR I don't really want to bother any of the mods because I'm afraid they're doing something very important that cannot be bothered.

@despair That is true, but...(looking at your status) Maybe a rule could be implemented? I know many users who will gift freely, and that might rub off on everyone else.

Threads like this are always really neat to me. Players, new and old, coming together, offering their perspectives on the game and their favorite aspects of it.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Egg Cave is less community oriented than it was in the earlier days. In fact, most of the major expansions in the game have made the game more and more social. In the earlier days, the reason people just hung out on Profiles and commented back and forth is because there were no Forums, no Notifications, no Mail, and no other ways to communicate. Look where we are now -- connecting is easier than ever! 😊

I would agree that trading is a more significant aspect of Egg Cave than it was in the beginning and, in different ways, makes thing perhaps feel a bit more cut-throat. The reason for this is because there are about 2x-3x more creatures to collect in the game than there were when Egg Cave launched. No CSP. No LEs. No holiday creatures. Remember when there were only 50 species and about 40 of them were commons? Yeah. Imagine how underwhelming and boring that would be when you look at the vibrancy of the economy today!

In summary, things change. I loved Egg Cave in the past and I still love Egg Cave today. And I think today is the best version the site can be (and will keep getting better). ❤ī¸

@Ian - I LOVE eggcave! and you do have a point, if it was like the old days then it would be boring, everyone would have everything and it would be no fun to try and find your dreamies on here because everyone would have it all. they're would be no mail, forms/fourms, nothing! BORING! and although i think it would be cool to see how EC was before, i don't think it would be very fun if it was like that permanently

Also, things change. even if we don't want them to. like in November 2010 i had 2 lovebirds, Peachy (a rosy cheek peach face girl) & Cheeky (a slate mask boy) and in July 2014 Peachy flew away because she got scared when she was in my hand. and August 7th, Cheeky passed because of that. now i want things to change SO badly. wishing that i had not of taken her out, wishing that i had not done that and i would still have them today more then likely. but alas, things can't change sometimes. they'll never come back and i'll never see either one of them alive again. to hear them chirping in the morning and flying around in the cage playing with their swing. ☚ī¸ so, i know somethings are sad to see change. but like all things usually, they get better in time. i had shed gallons of tears over the poor birdies, but, i have their son Lucky (they were a mated pair and had babies and i kept one) and he has a mate, Selous so things change, they get bad, but they get better to! so.... just wanted to say that in case it makes someone happy. 😊

@lchen888 - Maybe they could do something like CRW. like, once a week it be like the old egg cave. so new people can see how it was before and why it's so much better now! 😃

@lchen888

love the idea

@Ian @savannahall

I agree completely, I came in about April of last- no 2 years ago (wow I feel old XD) and loved the site as it was, but I also love it as is now. Unfortunately it has sort of taken a more business-like state in that everyone is going for rares and cave cash for rares and all that jazz, but as somebody who was on hiatius for months and came back to the bakery and bean sack and the wall of sandrodons, the theif shop and leila oasis, I have to say I love how the site has grown from the little Eggcave I was introduced to. I do think that it could stay to be more like the family it used to be, but with a little elbow grease and Ian's leadership I have no doubt that we'll be the old EC family we once were- we're just a little bigger of a family now 😊

Deleted • 10 February 2015 at 7:50 PM

Wow it would sound exactly strange.
Either ways that'll look like a trade ban for everyone xD
