@abubblegum I've got one!

Do you know which creature's head is featured on the chit-chat forum icon?

https://static.eggcave.com/forums/icons/chit-chat.png

That's actually the Baistay! It was redrawn in 2015 due to looking too much like a Digimon. The forum icon was never changed.

I have found a fact too! 😊 @o_o, did you know that the word Gadfly, also a creature on Eggcave, means an annoying person? Oh, and I have never realised what creature the Chit Chat forum icon was!

@o_o

The creature Odon likely gets it's name from Odonata, an order of insects that encompasses dragonflies and damselflies.

I'm sure there's a meaningful origin behind the name of every creature but this is one i recognize XD

@zx-metalmonster

Another etymology example: the Daisypus comes from Dasypus, a scientific term for certain armadillos.

This is not that exciting but it took me a surprisingly long time to realize these:

Tenalp = planet backwords

Nogar Ragon is a palindrome! (So Nogar backwards is Ragon, Ragon backwards is Nogar :'D)

I've noticed a lot of etymology examples over the years that I can't remember now.

@wigglytuff

Yeaaah

The Ami probably got its name from the French word Ami.

Lycire is Lycan (werewolf or wolf I think) and Fire mashed together.

:'D

I think everyone already knows this but a Chimera is a mythical creature with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a snake.

@ammolite
A lycanthrope is similar to a werewolf I believe.
Also, lycaon is a genus of canid, and it contains only one existing species: the African Wild Dog. They look kinda similar to Lycires?
