A TRINKET TRAVEL???? THE COSMOS??????
snowywinter • 1 week ago
Wow... Some of these I was close on predicting, glad I was able to snag a couple more birds, that was my fav variety, but wow, the retirements are all over the place unlike previous ones.

I feel like this doesn't really make sense? Why is one single trinket retired while the other stages from that same set aren't? Why are only the blue/green festive birds retired, when they all came out as a set? I think it'd make more sense-
- (and be easier to keep track of for collecting purposes) if *sets* were retired together.
@heatherm19 yeah i was actually wondering what their criteria for retiring items are. i thought initially that, like the retirement of the commons a bit ago, the items w the highest quantities are removed, but i feel like we'd see more travels in that case...
Orderedchaos • 1 week ago
@myriadium As Ian stated, 4 from each shop will be retired, and there are 4 regular travels up there. You aren't going to see a month of just one shop getting retired.
@Orderedchaos oh true i forgot about that! I hope this means we'll get more trinket travel releases, since the last time we had one was three years ago 😋

Woo!! That is a random assortment. And I don't know how I feel about "sets" being broken. However..... Is the Maze Maize Retired Retired, or is it now seasonal retired? It's a Fair Maze prize.

Trinket retirements make no sense to me
If the idea is 4 retired items from each shop, that makes even *less* sense why singles from sets are retired alone. 4 items = 1 set (usually), so 1 set retired each month. Should be.

Whoa...Now I kinda regret feeding all my Strawberries to my Beasties Yesterday... Whoops? 😵💫
ida92 • 1 week ago
@heatherm19 I agree, it would totally make much more sense to retire sets (that were actually all available in the same shop) than to just retire random, unrelated items from the same shop. ~
~ I guess some exceptions could be made when there were no sets to begin with or when the set contained less than 4 items (for example some trinket travels for creatures with only 2 o 3 stages).
ygaria • 1 week ago
@heatherm19 I got festive birds yesterday in a toy box quest and they might have well have been retired, because they were all going for 10 mil+ in user shops and nobody new can afford that. This looks more like tidying up the set to me.

It's really odd what you removed REALY NICE stuff but old mediocre things with crude drawings are STILL here. Why? You didn't this thing random. Same thing with cave common critters, it's annoying try to get cave monthlies with bunch of old scrap. Illogical and ill‑conceived

=(
It’s also unclear why you’re removing trinkets if you’re not removing the creatures they’re tied to. Just why? What’s the point? If you’re cleaning the site of old stuff, then clean it of old stuff. There are a LOT of old items on the site that no one has needed -
- for a long time, but you’re removing relatively new content with decent artwork. Do you hate some old artist there or something? Can you explain the criteria you use to determine what to remove and what not to?

Trinket Travels being retired make no sense to me
sonny • 1 week ago
this game will never run out of new ways to disappoint me apparently. retiring trinket travels makes 0 sense especially since none have actually been released in ages. really wild choices here
kataclysm • 1 week ago
I do agree that the random selection here doesn't make sense. Sets being broken up is bananas - why would only 1 festive bird be retired? Why that one? Why not all 4? Likewise with the trinkets. Why not the whole sets?? These retirements feel like punishments honestly.
pooh • 1 week ago
In my view, this is a poor decision.
nut • 1 week ago
lol yeah I wish it were a set of the same item being retired as well, it feels so unbalanced to retire random one offs from random sets of 4
spiritkoi • 1 week ago
Ah I feel like retiring trinket travels doesn’t make sense… does that mean alternate trinkets of the same creature will be made eventually? Retiring one thing from a set from the other shops is a bit odd but I don’t mind it as much as retiring any trinkets…
pjbuzzy • 1 week ago
It would be good to have some insight into how these retirements are decided. Like others have mentioned, there are a lot of much older items/travels that remain available, and the decision to retire individual items instead of full sets seems strange.
geddra • 1 week ago
Really going to miss some of those
galactic_pigeon • 1 week ago
Well shucks. Also going with what others have said, the retirement choices do feel random.
Also I'd like to once again bring up the topic of adding a way to attain retired items in the future, such as an item VEND sort of thing (or sth else). And to automatically remove retiring items from shops so shop owners don't wake up to their stock being sold for cheap.
It is based on how many are in circulation. So the items with the highest amounts in inventorys/strongrooms/ect will get retired first
The items that people love/cherish/collect get retired first? Shouldn't it be that the oldest items are getting retired because... They're the oldest? Or something?
That feeling of punishment just got a bit stronger knowing that beloved items are the going to be the first to go. 💔
@kataclysm I do get where you're coming from, but I'm new, and if there are a lot of these things out there, because people love them, then I have a chance of getting them as well. If they're old, and only a few exist in game, then new players will never get any.

Also think that trinkets should retire as a set ^^"
@ygaria the thing is that these items are older, but they're older and beloved... Taking away the old goodies that were apparently community favourites but leaving other items of similar ages that just aren't as populous for whatever reason is the bit that feels unkind to me.
Kinda agree with @kataclysm, knowing that the most collected/beloved items are the ones actively being targeted feels more like a punishment rather then simple site clean-up. And it still would make a *lot* more sense to retire *sets* instead of individuals, rather than-
- the 'most common'. Or if Ian really wants to stick with the 'most common' getting retired, pick the most common and retire that whole set instead of just one.
lol it's a punishment for daring to ask for any changes: "you asked for item retirements, you got them!" it's a monkeys paw situation with every implementation, it would seem.
I totally agree with what others have said about it feeling like a punishment to be targeting popular items. I wonder how many of these have been retired specifically because a handful of people hoard them for their own collections? They may be common in terms of quantity, but -
- if so many of them are in the hands of only a handful of users, they lose than sense of commonality. Not to mention, this punishes users who collect a certain travel in the hopes of outfitting their entire cove with it. I just think that older items should be taken out first
okami • 1 week ago
I'm in agreement with the majority of what's stated above. It seems more logical/clean to retire things as sets and base the chosen items more on age. I'm also not a fan of trinket travels being included in the retirings in general, but can understand why they are.
gngdia • 1 week ago
see I had a feeling this would happen, so I stocked up on the strawberries set yesterday (along with some older travels), I was living in those shops, lol. but only 2 got retired from the set? this does not make sense to me either, retire full sets seems more logic.
jarsha • 1 week ago
I'm all for retiring stuff but I still don't understand why trinket travels are being retired. It's not like new ones are made anymore, someone mentioned the last trinket travels made were three YEARS ago. And there's been no mention of new ones planning to be made.
Additionally, they are not requested for Quests so there being a lot of them cycling through the shops isn't really a problem since you're not rushing to find them for a quest, they're just nice to have and use. The overabundance of other shop items was frustrating when questing.
I'm with @kataclysm. You've retire items because they're popular. But they're popular because they're GOOD and BEAUTIFUL. Reducing the number of beautiful items won't make people collect ugly ones - they will remain unpopular regardless.
and we still cant organize our strongrooms by retired items lol. i agree with myriadium, this is our punishment for asking for changes. so many other great, valuable player suggestions go ignored but this one gets implemented in the worst way possible
In concurrence, seems more fair to retire items based on how old they are, that I could begrudgingly accept, but retiring items just because they are plentiful stings. I get that with creatures, but not items.
xxcouchxx • 1 week ago
I noticed it was only the beautiful travels leaving.. now it makes sense. The ones people collect are more abundant so they are leaving. I suppose I'll just keep buying the pretty ones that are left 3
chaotictreat • 1 week ago
Mm. I don't think that's how it should be decided, nor do I think trinket travels should be retired at all, at least for now. Oh well. I'll miss the iconic Egg item.
So I've been thinking and come to the conclusion that I don't mind the broken sets, especially with the reasoning. I feel that it will be easier for future collectors to complete the sets. Instead of hunting for all 4 expensive, retired pieces, it's now one for the set.
Also, while trinkets are designed around a certain stage of a creature, they can be used on any creature. I'm not sure any of the trinkets I have on my creatures are actually used as intended.
